They won grammy for this video. It was filmed in a closet and a kitchen and it cost the $400. THey won there first Grammy!!!

They won a Grammy for the arrangement of this piece, not the video. And yes, it was their first.
@ChibiChula3 ай бұрын
The audio was recorded in a closet, which is actually a pretty effective sound booth when filled with clothes. The video was filmed in the kitchen of Avi and Kevin's shared apartment. They did a lot with a smoke machine, a ring light, what looks like a color change light, a blacklight and a plain background. Most of the epicness came from makeup, hair and wardrobe, though the editing worked well too. 😅
@jfifield203 ай бұрын
Actually it cost more than $400. The post production work was outsourced and cost extra money but still considering the numbers it posted was still very cheap to make.

They are the firsts and Only acapella group to have a Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame! They are amazing! Edit: They pride themselves on never putting out a video of a song they could NOT do on a live show! That was a very fun reaction, guys! This is a medley of songs from a French duo called Daft Punk who wore motorcycle helmets and did some really cool EDM stuff. The day PTX was supposed to record this at a studio, there were problems with the booking, so rather than lose days trying to re-book, they decided to record it in two of the group's closets and do filming in the kitchen as well as basic editing. They splurged a whole $400 on props, lighting and make-up but did spend more eventually, sending it to their sound guys and producer for final edits. They won their first Grammy for this!! The song they mentioned at the end speech of the video, Run To You, is their own original, a masterpiece in harmonies. It's been covered by so many choral groups from high schools to professional choirs all over the world. It's well worth a reaction! Other suggestions: Be My Eyes (original), Coffee In Bed, (original), Happy Now (original), Come Along, Sing (original), New Rules/I Am That Somebody, Radioactive ( feat Lindsey Stirling).

Great reaction, they are all badass in this. Won a Grammy. If you have any residual “no way” vibes they perform this live. I suggest Hollywood Bowl 2022 OR they did a Private Performance to fulfill a Make A Wish wish. That 2nd one is off mic, recorded by a fan there with a phone or I pad. And yes, Mitch can make that electronic sound with his voice. Remember in Bohemian Rhapsody fans said he didn’t need the megaphone. Great reaction! They are so good they can sing like a skipped record and really mix themselves. Kevin is a beast and can beatbox entire concerts live ❤❤❤❤❤

The arrangement of the medley is, just by itself SUCH an amazing arrangement! Which songs came before or after which others, how they overlapped and re-mixed and flipped from one to the other so seamlessly is amazing. Then the arrangement of the vocals, playing to the strengths of each member of the group to create the harmonies, sounds, depths, heights, overtones, everything so "them." Then the video: the relatively simple set up: stare into the camera and sing. But the creative use of contacts, makeup, lighting, glowing wires and fog, and the way those singing heads were edited together! So awesome. Such creative energy!!
@margretrosenberg4203 ай бұрын
Okay, sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on, but the rhythm section actually has two parts: percussion and bass. Kevin does percussion, Avi does bass, so when you see Avi moving his lips in time with the percussion, he's providing the bass component of the drum sounds. The other thing that's easy to miss is that Avi is the one who primarily makes the whooshing sounds in this. SOME of those may be Kevin, but I don't think so; most or all of them come from Avi.

This is SUCH a great musical rabbithole - if you want the most FUN JOURNEY, I recommend watching ALL of Pentatonix's episodes on the reality show "The Sing Off" (it's Series/Season 3), which is an all-acapella show of teams musically competeing against one another, kinda like 'The Voice'. In that show, they have to remix and cover of MANY well known songs, and it is SO. MUCH. 🔥F🔥I🔥R🔥E🔥! - ALL the way through, that it is a MUST see... it's also their beginnings/origin story as a group, so you GOT to check that out, for sure!

this was very early in their history, They have been together since 2011, still creating and putting out new and amazing stuff. There was one change in the group in 2017, their bass, guy with the braided hair (Avi), left the group due to stresses of keeping up with the group and family situation. A new bass (Matt) joined the group in 2018. Just something to keep in mind when reacting to their stuff.

Since the Daft Punk medley is one of PTX's most popular videos (second only to Hallelujah), they perform it at virtually every concert that's not on one of their Christmas tours. One of the best recordings of it (because it was being live-streamed) is from the September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert - here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2mzi2qVgLJ6g5Y Keep in mind that this was the first concert of the season for them, since Kirstie was pregnant with her first child when they finished their 2021 Christmas tour, and they didn't tour again until after she had her baby - which was just 3 months prior to this concert taking place!

If you hope to do more Pentatonix reactions, and I think you probably do, you will probably run afoul of the copyright police if you haven't already. Pentatonix as a band loves reactors, but their recording company does not. So you should probably plan on disguising the video some what. There is never a problem with the audio, but for some reason they don't like the videos to be shown. So figure out what you want to do. You can play with the transparency or you can put a large watermark over the video or some combination thereof. Don't worry that we can't see the video. In most cases we Pentaholics have seen the video tens if not hundreds of times. What we're looking for is your reaction. And this was a good one! I have subscribed to see more Pentatonix! Have fun traveling down this absolutely amazing rabbit hole! Cheers!

@kellymaldia1282 ай бұрын
On The Sing Off, Ben Folds talks about Kevin's abilities as a beat boxer. He's able to do reverse snares. Shawn Stockman compared him to Will I Am on the soundboard. He's an accomplished cellist. He cello-boxes. That's how Scott found him on KZbin. He asked him to come out to try out for the Sign Off with them. He was planning to go to med school at Yale. Avi is trained classical bass. He trained in opera. He can get some crazy low notes. He can mimic bad guitars and sounds. He does a lot of overtones you hear in Daft Punk. Shawn Stockman from the Sing off called them "Meat and Potatoes." Without them, no matter how beautiful they sounded and talented Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch were, they couldn't succeed. Watch the Sing Off. I think a KZbinr Chichadee had just their songs compiled. Since then, Avi has left due to family reasons. The constant travel was to hard on him. They brought on Matt Salle. He's different than Avi. He doesn't have as rich of deep bass but he can pick up much more beat boxing. He's also matches the groups playfulness well.

The original Bassist there Avi can do what is called Overtone singing along with making some other interesting sounds while doing bass notes. But on their first tour after this came out, they opened with this and it was the sickest opener ever and the crowd was so hyped after it. They are awesome! And new bassist Matt is just as awesome as Avi with possibly a larger range which is crazy.
