This movie reduced me to tears. Isn't it sad that what passes for entertainment today couldn't hold a candle to a film like this.

This movie along with many of the others on Manfocued shows the iconic role model that Cicely Tyson is for her generation. Her work is absolutely amazing to watch. I continue to develop more respect for her talents & skills as I continue to watch her work.

Was a good old movie, one of the best I've seen. No cusing, no hate, no killing, what families us to be like even though grandma died. Living is dying and dying is living the cycle of life...

Pasha Durr this is how many African Americans lived in the 70s and before, we had complete male headed households, jobs and values. We were a strong community. At the time when this movie aired it was nothing impressive about it, it reflected our norms, we only appreciated it as complimentary to who we were. Only in the aftermath of the destruction of our families, communities, morals, jobs and continuity, and it is only from the onset of drugs, crime, self hatred, apathy and denial and

This is one of my favorite movies, all professional actors and highest quality. A little corny but in a good way. I wish I could find it with the scene where Trunk asks to ride to the north and waxes poetic. It's a description of the ideals and dreams we had when we made the Great Migration.

Easiest way: on a computer or phone, click Share under the film title, choose Facebook, then in your comment tell your friends to watch on KZbin and click "Manfocused" for more films from this channel. Alternatively, on a computer you can click on "Manfocused", copy the URL from your browser's address bar, go to your Facebook page, and paste the URL into a new post to share the channel directly. There's no Share link on the channel page, so it takes a few more steps. I hope that helps. :)

I can't look at Hooks without thinking of Richard Pryor. They may have been contemporaries, and since it's all in the hair style and the mustache, I'm thinking it might have been intentional.

Its what we needed then (1976)and most definitely need now (2023). Every black show is about alcohol, drugs, guns, killings, murders, raping, a lot of profanity, sex, absent fathers, multiple abuses, prostituting, etc; and we question the generations. So what if its life, doesn’t mean we have to expose. Exposing is not a solution. Why not ignore it like we do in our own backyard (neighborhood)? Making movies about it will not stop it; instead it glorifies it. Robert Hooks made good movies to calm down the fast life, but thats’s not what we wanted. We want the killings and drug movies; well, lets see what will continue to happen to our children generations. Personally, I do not watch any of them. As soon as Empire start killing, I stopped watching. As soon as Star started killing, I stopped watching. No way I am watching Power. What are we doing? Keep writing and producing these kinds of movies which encourages children - adults as if that’s the only life for them. Don’t ask why? We’re all playing a part by watching, entertaining, supporting, etc. When our neighborhoods become threatened, the schools become more unsafe and our homes becomes unsafe, don’t ask why? I’m trying to raise my children and hopefully my children children and I want their lives to be safe. We are we doing to our children?
