I really love how supportive and loyal Thing is with Wednesday, even getting her a dress for the dance. Him bonding with Enid over Wednesday was super cute, as well as Enid telling Wednesday to apologise to Thing after they argue.

Who doesn't love Thing? I mean they managed to squeeze a lot of personality into that hand. My favorite moment would probably have to be when Wednesday listed off all the personality traits that she shares with great writers and he points out those are also common in serial killers without missing a beat.

My favorite moment for Thing is when he is there for Enid after she transforms back into a human. He also saved Xavior. He knew that he wouldn't be able to help Wednesday in the battle, so he helped in others ways and then stayed with his friend when she needed someone the most.

I feel like the having no arguments over text is maybe the best advice in the video. People are so used to texting they don't realise that in the absence of visual information the other person's brain fills in that blank and if they are angry it will be biased.

Idk if anyone else feels like this, but it's easier for me to use text for arguments and complicated discussions because I can't handle stress of talking personally (especially when the voices are raised, I only will end up cornered and cry lol)

@@user-uw9ur2xv9s me too. I hate it that I tear up and my voice trembles when I'm angry, sad, nervous, etc. Speaking also doesn't give me enough time to think words over so it's harder to say what I mean. I also like text for being auto-recording: I don't have to try to wonder if something was like I remember or if emotion is mixing stuff up, and if someone misremembers or misinterprets there's a way to check the original at least.

I've always found it helpful, tbh, as someone who gets overwhelmed and goes nonverbal when I've gotten very upset or emotional. It takes some of the stress and overwhelming anxiety off by being able to put my thoughts together in a way I find most comfortable (being a writer and using writing as a means of coping/venting) while still communicating. That said, it's absolutely not the only means of communicating for me, and more often than not the texting serves more as a means of getting over a barrier in the conversation, so I can continue it with someone face-to-face or in person. Sort of a means of breaking the anxiety wall and getting some of what I'm feeling through, so the rest can follow. Especially since, as rightfully pointed out, things can be misunderstood or misread without tonal or physical cues.

In many ways I found the whole of Wednesday to be about equality and equity in things. As someone with ADHD/RSD, OCD, Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), social anxiety, two sleep disorders that also cause brain fog/jet lag feeling, horrible at reading body language (possibly due to my poor eyesight) and problems with confrontation.... texting helps me remember the important parts that need to be worked on. I have had problems where friends/family members etc think I'm purposely ignoring their wished when in reality I couldn't remember it and it gives me the worse anxiety on top of the already existing anxiety so I end up just shutting down. Since I started "texting" about certain issues its been a game changer since I have little visual reminders I can look at if I'm forgetting what I'm trying to work on. I do makes sure afterwards that the other person and I are on the same page though because texting can omit a lot but it doesn't mean it has to be lacking in communication. People with ADHD sometimes have problems with their "pause" button while communicating, I am one of them, so re-reading what I want to send and what they sent ends up making it easier to input the new information :P

I remember a few years back in Romania (I think it was 2015 but not too sure), I once went to the seaside with my mom, and I stumbled upon a show. I decided to check it out and it was a two-parter. First it was a concert with two singers that looked exactly like the Spy Kids (I simped a bit for the girl and she did look at me smiling for a while during the song's finale. I kinda jokingly trolled her by looking at "Carrot Top" instead (If you know, you know!)). But that's not the most important part...it was what followed after. The second part was a magic show where the magician himself Victor Dorobanțu, who played the Thing, was showing us a scorpion trick by putting it on his hand and the scorpion was chilling. Then he 'accidentally' dropped it off stage where the crowd was and all except me went back. Then he picked the scorpion up and the scorpion was tame again. If that moment wasn't some epic symbolic foreshadowing of him playing the Thing in Wednesday I dunno what is. Or it could've been a similar bald goatee magician that looked like him although I doubt it..

Thank you for this breakdown, it is so interesting! I love so much your contents! I love Thing's dynamic with Wednesday and how both of them actually care for each other, making Wedneaday realise and take him more for a 'human' or something instead of just a hand or someone/something she can just 'use'. Seeing him bond and create a friendship with Enid is actually so intelligent and interesting. Since Enid is really social and Thing can be social, too. They do create a nice relationship. Anyway, Thanks for this!! I love seeing them (and over and over again... haha).

I'm an amateur screenwriter and I LOVE when a production pulls something off that's so unique and obviously took a lot of talent to pull off with any sense of verisimilitude. This show is one of my favorite things of all time and Thing is probably my favorite character. A faceless hand (a weird thing to say) brought me so much joy in every episode. I could sense his perkiness and optimism. He was funny as hell! He cared so deeply but was delightfully mischievous. And he felt sadness so profoundly sometimes. I can't believe I'm saying this about a hand. They really pulled off something special with that character and I hope I have a tenth the talent someday.

Gotta honestly disagree with the idea the best way to argue with someone is in person. For me, I hate confrontation, and if it's in person I panic and I can't articulate my thoughts and just freeze up and go numb as a best case scenario, worst case I get angry and frustrated and just make everything a thousand times messier. Text gives me the space to figure out how to (usually) translate my thoughts and feelings into words and consider how they might be percieved and recieved. Having said that, yeah, voice only I hate, if im talking to someone with voice I have to see their face to at least read their expression and body language, much harder to do that over only audio. Either way, probably true in person is better for most people, but not a hard and fast rule.

That is a true point as well actually. Those who fear confrontation may prefer text ill mention next time = ) thanks for mentioning

I like that despite his penchant for self care they don't go the obvious route of ostentatious nail polish for a cheap joke - he's a very masculine presenting hand, he's just one who takes care of himself. It kind of reminds me of Athena in Immortals: Fenyx Rising who in one little side scene where she's trying to make good with her sister Aphrodite, she mentions that she allowed Aph to give her a makeover as kind of an olive branch because they never saw eye to eye as she always dismissed her as a bimbo and she's trying to be less judgemental, but she doesn't physically change because she specifically requested Aph not do TOO much outside her comfort zone and she listened. It's partially that they didn't want to change her character model, but I like in in universe it's Aphrodite recognising Athena's boundaries and stylistic choices and accepting them instead of making fun of them like they used to, it shows how far they've both come as people.

I am completely blown away that thing is called „Eiskaltes Händchen“ in German. And how they manage to cover that in synchronization. Translated it means „ice cold hand“ but with the cute/small suffix „chen“ because hand is also Hand in German and the „chen“ is supposed to make it small. Our word for girl is Mädchen wich comes from the German word for maid „Magd“ with a Chen at the end. So a girl in German is a Little or cute maid when it comes to linguistics but ofc it’s just our word for girl. Little explanation on the suffix „chen“

As an autistic person, I have trouble reading body language, until I learned some from a poker lesson on Queer Eye's first season, an art instruction book on how to draw supervillains and learning feminine mannerisms as a trans woman! Poker players have "tells" or positions that prove they are bluffing (leaning forward) or have a winning hand (slouching in their chair). Supervillains have sneaky and aggressive body language and dress in cool colors, such as blue, green, purple, red and black. Women think with their finger on their lip and cross their legs at the knee. Supeheroes stand arms akimbo, smile and wear red, yellow and blue, like Superman.

One of the things I didn't like about Wednesday was Thing having scars. Thing cares about himself. Shouldn't have scars I think the family never treated Thing as just a hand. They treat him as an equal. That doesn't mean he doesn't feel that way though. We have to understand no matter how we try people can always feel not included. All we can do is try. Your jokes may get you subscribers. I mean they needed to be made.

I think that is a beautiful analogy as well in acceptance

@Robert Carson: I respect that you would have preferred Thing not having scars. But I'm not convinced that the scars would contradict Thing taking care of himself. It's not explained why he has scars, so one cannot assert Thing would have scars through a lack of self care. And having scars but feeling no need to hide them or gloss over them indicates Thing having comfort in being the way he is. One could even see the stitches as a kind of make up, which Thing uses to portray them in an artistic way, instead of hiding them. PS: Thing was stabbed in the series, so one new scar is explained, and it's not through a lack of self care. I hope the producers won't gloss over this scar in new scenes, as it's a tells a story about Things experience.

@@justmy-profilename and understand that there is nothing wrong with scars. It is just I don't want people to think he is some sort of Frankenstein monster hand. He is only a hand. It is more that if he was injured they wouldn't sew him back together half-hearted. He'd be treated well

Hello Georgia, I enjoyed all your videos for Wednesday series. Can we expect a video about Tyler's problems? I think his character is more complicated than just 2 dimensional villain.

Hi Georgia :)! How are you? Happy New Year! Great point about body language and arguments. I concur that arguments by text are a bad idea. It can be easy to think someone might be upset when they're actually not. Awesome cosplay! And haha I totally concur with Christopher Jazzcat- it's so awesome how you also used a reanimated hand for this video. I did not expect that. It is fun! :) LOL "Don't shorthand him" Great pun!! :). No apology needed! :). True that it is easy to throw away self-care when we are stressed. I too think it's great that Thing takes care of himself. I concur :) He is very empathetic and caring :). I didn't think about how Thing sliding was just like a kid happy with themselves. Great point :). :). Definitely a moment I like a lot also. It was cute how he had a party hat. I remember noticing and thinking how cool that was :). I like how kind he was to Enid too and their friendship. Awesome points. Nice video! Great work :). Take care, Georgia!

A really interesting thing about, well, Thing, is something I just realized while reading through the comments of this video. Something that, I feel, really makes you wonder about how exactly the human brain works in regards to such things. What I'm referring to is the fact that, almost universally, through all versions of the franchise, audiences really relate to and love Thing as a character. This is in spite of the fact that, effectively, Thing is a character equivalent to a spider (due to his lack of human features and form of locomotion that is mechanically required due to his shape), a creature that is almost universally reviled by audiences. One would think that attaching anthropomorphic personality traits onto what is effectively a spider that's formed of a severed human limb would not be enough to have audiences go from being horrified to even neutral, not to mention near-universal love, yet giving Thing a humanoid-type personality is all it apparently takes to make audiences forget that every other aspect of his character is something that, in any other situation, would usually horrify and frighten them.

I found this information about Thing’s communication fascinating because Thing is like the epitome of the sides of allistic Neurotypical communication that I never understood (e.g. passive aggressive flipping of the pages of the magazine). I see that a lot with Allistic/neurotypical communications particularly in heterosexual relationships though I’m sure this will happen in non-hetero allistic Neurotypical relationships too… the wife/girlfriend is mad at the husband/boyfriend because he hadn’t helped around the house or done what he said he would do, but instead of the wife/gf communicating this, she’ll do something like passively aggressively fold the laundry or clean around him huffing instead of actually saying what is wrong. Or the husband/bf is watching some sports thing on TV and hems frustrated with his wife/gf interrupting his game and camaraderie with his friends over this sport event but never flat out tells her he needs this time with his friends etc… I often wonder like why not just say what’s bothering you rather than do this passive aggressive dancing around the issue behaviour? But then apparently there’s arguments if they speak their truth, and arguments in the huffiness so there’s no empathy of understanding going on… in relationships between neurodivergents a lot of the time there’s a lot of communication as we’ve been told our communication is lacking so we over compensate to ensure there is understanding which leads to empathising and often a mutual agreement. The fact that thing can my speak, but uses sign language means that he could say what’s bothering him if he wanted to, but chooses not to, whereas Wednesday just says exactly what she needs to communicate is also another indication that Wednesday could be coded as an autistic character with love for the macabre side of life.
