I find it interesting how whenever Wednesday is sitting with her parents, her eyes seem so subdued; like she lacks her usual confidence when around Morticia and Gomez. There are so many possible reasons as to why and it's amazing how you can see that in just how she holds her eyes.

She also is always in the middle of her parents, literally and figuratively, you can kind of tell she's done with having to be the literal middleman in it. I think this is also a big reason Wednesday didn't want to be like her parents, especially Morticia, ie: "repulsed" by love, affection, dating, cause she's ALWAYS in the middle of her mom and dad sucking face 24/7.
@WinterCalmorium

"Subdued" ? I read her more as moody, or pissed. And she definitely doesn't lack her usual confidence, otherwise she wouldn't literally order them to stop with their lovey-dovey attitude. Heck, she even takes control of the conversation seconds later. To me she's not subdued, she's just done with a situation she's not interested in and wants to move on to something that does. Namely, the murder case.

As a newer counselor, I do agree with your assessment that the therapist here didn't seem to have a goal in mind when having this family session, which leads to being unprepared to ask exploratory questions or to sit on emotions. The therapist here is also visibly uncomfortable which can make the clients feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed to speak honestly.

I noticed little microaffections in this, like their facial expressions when pugsley shared, they accept him as he is even if the therapist herself behaved openly uncomfortable around pugsley. I also liked that as much as Gomez wanted to follow his wife n daughter, he waited for pugsley, you could see he wanted pugsley to be quick but he didn't interupt him talking to the therapist or rush him, he just waited and didn't leave pugsley behind. Which shows how loved the kids are and makes one wonder what makes Wednesday feel so unloved (I wonder if she holds some anger to her parents for her weirdness and being the target if meanness by normies her whole life while conflicted by her enjoyment of her weirdness)

Love your “Subtle Morticia” cosplay! Something to note is that Niki Lindhome’s Dr. Kinbott was being positioned as the potential killer, so her out of line therapy sessions were meant to question why she was bad at her job, rather than her character actually being bad at her job. I liked that, because if she actually was good at her job, her not being the killer would not have been a surprise.

I love how a lot of people love Pugsley. The actor is underrated (he's the least promoted Addams family member) but he's so adorable. I work security at an airport. We were taught to address people in wheelchairs directly, and to do the same with other people in with assistants, even if we might believe there might be communication barriers, we do our best to communicate the process and their options. The assistant can step in with translation, or help them understand with their means of communication. This should be a standard society wide, and I find it upsetting that the place where it should be the most important place to find it, is where it's lacking the most for your experience

I am not sure Gomez is happy that Wednesday is no longer home but rather he know if he shows too much emotions that Wednesday will not be comfortable with that. I say that cause Gomez does touch his son to comfort him, he know his son needs that. I also think it shows Gomez has a level of trust in Wednesday, that he is suggesting they do talk about the "murder" , however I don't think talking about it in front of the therapist would be a good idea .

It’s very cool, from what I’ve seen of the addams, family (not a lot, aside from Wednesday) how each iteration of Addams family can near perfectly convey the family dynamic through staging and visual storytelling. For instance, morticia always demands the most presence in a scene, it’s always clear she’s the top authority, towering over the rest of the family always with an unwavering confidence and calm pose. Gomez looks to still have authority, but is not one to enforce it, he’s the only family member to show such extreme emotion, most of the time joy or anticipation, with a level of eeriness, his width clashes with Morticia’s height, reinforcing his authority. Wednesday is put front and center, naturally we expect this from the main character, but it seems she’s almost on display as Morticia’s and Gomez’s model kid, Wednesday is trapped in between two other characters who visually speaking, have the most authority, the perspective makes Wednesday feel smaller, she’s tensing up her shoulders, clenching her hands, it’s clearly uncomfortable for her, but Wednesday still takes her position with determination, with a focused expression, she’s almost on the same level as her parents. The only one than who’s not on that level is pugsly, the runt of the group, he’s at the lowest level, he’s contrasted with everyone else, he’s alone, and it’s clear that it’s because Wednesday isn’t with him, he wants to be around his sister, because most of the time that’s the person who’s cared for him the most, and who brings him closer to the rest of the family. Goddamn, where was all this energy during my English class! The Addams have a very clear dynamic that is accentuated and exaggerated by the posing and staging of characters, to the point where still images can tell a full story. And that’s my presentation on why Wednesday rocks

It’s so interesting to see how they depict therapy in this show having watched the films from the 90s, the therapist is a hokey con artist in that but it’s still surprisingly coherent and miles better therapy that Morticia and Gomez are incredibly receptive to It’s kind of sad imo to see their trademark affection be depicted as something that could ever prevent a healthy loving relationship with their kids It’s like the mother daughter tension was just the easiest place they could create tension that wasn’t there before I understand the necessity to adapt, hopefully there’ll be more family growth and closeness to come in this show

Well, this show is called Wednesday, not The Addams Family. Wednesday is a teenager in this show, while she was a tween in the 90’s films. I personally think it’s natural development of her character to feel the way she feels towards her parents, distancing herself from them to ”blaze her own path”. So I don’t really get this particular critizism the show gets from a lot of people. To have a 16 year old Wednesday idolizing her parents and they always seeking eye to eye would be weird to me.

I'd probably try to mirror her by expressing appreciation for her dry wit, demonstrating genuine interest in her morbid hobbies while always showing concern for her safety and well-being, and not "taking the bait" when she says inflammatory or shocking things. Wednesday's only going to accept help, advice, and feedback from someone she trusts, I reckon, and you build that trust by proving that you're congruent, genuine, and not easily rattled, offended, or freaked out.

John Astin who was the first to play Gomez on Television said in an interview [and many family psychologists at the time agreed] that the Addams Family were probably the healthiest family unit on television in that era. Their unconditional love, support and acceptance for each member of the family was without equal at the time, there was no judgment, and their primary concern as individuals was the happiness of all the other members of the family. Even when Pugsley joined [shivers] the Boy Scouts, although his parents were deeply disturbed by this deviant behaviour, they tried to support him in his choices, even though their first impulses were to force him away from it. There was deep and intense love between Gomez and Morticia, as Astin said, you KNEW this couple was having sex, and in the early 60's even implied sex on TV was completely taboo. Even more, they were comfortable open and demonstrative of their love in the presence of their children, and the rest of the family, they saw no reason to treat it as a shameful secret. No, if you wanted a family with issues, That was the Cleavers from "Leave it to Beaver". Sure they appeared normal on the surface, BUT; Two sons with absolutely NO moral compass, a father who sits in suit shirt and tie on Saturday Morning just screams controlling, and you just KNEW June was gooned on Miltown, it's the only way she can deal with the stress of a controlling husband, and two completely out-of-control sons. Sorry, they were just so CREEPY.

2:27 one time we had a group session with my sisters therapist. I met him the first time and my dad knew him a little bit. And there was also another one as a neutral no one from us had any meetings with. But because my sister has this tendency to say no one is on her side and we manipulated the others to have someone we didn’t know eliminated this from the start. So when they protected us from her verbal jabs and shifting blame she kinda had to accept that it was like that. And she also had a part in her problems and not everything is the fault of tue people around her.

Have you ever seen or heard of the Borderlands series? The main antagonist is named Handsome Jack and I think he is an extremely interesting character both from a narrative and psychological perspective and would love to see an actual analysis of him as a person.

At 13:50 "If you go into (a therapist's) office and it looks so perfect that it feels like a museum, many people will feel uncomfortable." I would have thought that the Addams Family would have felt right at home in such an office.

#1. Georgia....Your Morticia look is absolutely Divine in this video. I watched 'Wednesday' and despite never watching films with Kids in leading roles, I enjoyed it. I DID have a Visual problem with Gomez....possibly because he so different physically from the original TV Adams Family Dad. My favorite character in a Supporting Role was 'Thing'.....quite a Handy friend to have around. Well Done indeed, 🖤

When I was a child I went to family counseling with my siblings and parents and the therapist made me sit quietly while my family told me how I was ruining their lives just by existing. I had an abusive mother, an autistic sister, and a workaholic dad. I was 13. A few years later my mom had a psychotic break and put a gun to my head and tried to kill me. Because of that therapist I never sought help again until just recently. I'm 26. A bad therapist can destroy lives. If that woman had listened to me at all rather than attacking me based on my family's views maybe she could have stopped the abuse and saved a child.

I’m loving your Wednesday series! Do you think you’ll be doing a video on Tyler Galpin? I’d love to see a video on his family issues, the grooming, the grief or maybe the anger issues. Maybe a split personality/dissociation video since the Hyde is based off of Jekyll and Hyde

Visual storytelling, and Pugsley Addams seating and eating, we don't see a lot of Pugsley in this season or story, but he is the catalyst in this story and season. Why is Wednesday at Nevermore? Because she retaliated on the bullies of Pugsley. Wednesday is seated in between the parents, and the parents are the focal points with how they position/drape themselves in their seats. Like you said posed for a picture perfect photograph to be taken, or a portrait to be painted. In this session for Wednesday it is about the secrets of her parents, and their skeletons in their closets. Look at the evasive eye contacts of the parents, vs the deep intense focus from Wednesday. Both parents have thoughts and feelings, clearly, but make the choice not to react/answer. Also Gomez seems to have more mixed feelings and thoughts on this than Morticia, she even seems the least bit bothered and actually maybe enjoying this. In a previous video the question was if Wednesday might be coded autistic in short hands or if she her personality/character could be autistic. Pugsley opens up this session, as presumably the youngest member of the family, seated on the ground, using "food" as a comfort, but also being the most emotional open. You can hear his voice under the emotional pressures crackling. Reinstating the brotherly & sisterly bond between them. And as the mamasboy we get a shot of Morticia having more facial expression of her thoughts and emotions then before with Wednesday. But this tells us she feels similar hearing this, opposite to the raised eyebrow expression we had before, with her own response to the same question. Also Wednesday has a reaction and even a moment with eye contact with Pugsley in response to his reaction. She blocks of her emotions but feels similar to him, but doesn't want to go there, and wishes Pugsley wouldn't open up like this, because it effects her in a way she doesn't want to be effected. The story on Nero her pet scorpion and her crying and then blocking her emotions off and masking since then. The therapist then pulls the focus to Morticia, and we see how Wednesday is stoning/freezing/masking over again, regain her focus in her eyes. The words of he father throw her off, and she notices the inappropriate clinging bond between her parents being triggered and coming up, and wished this would stop. Looking at the therapist for help, to interrupt this/them. Look at her eyes focused, willed, emotional pleading but still stoic in a way. She is not vulnerable, her mask, her wall, however you want to name it. As the father goes in for the hand and arm kissing her eyes shift away, she doesn't want to see this, be part of this, etc. The parents are enmeshed, always were always have been. And the secret they harbor is part of this, we will find out later. Also Gomez is more like Pugsley, showing emotion (counter character of the norm which the Addams family was about in concept) Wednesday and Morticia are more iced over. It is not just Wednesday they lost it is also the son seated on the ground, in his own special way. The children are not number one in the relationship Gomez and Morticia. Especially in this rendition of the Addams family. She is like 15/16 y/o a teen/adolescent and that also shows in her dominance to tell her parents off, "Enough!". She (Wednesday) has regained the control over the session, the scene, and immediately pulls out the file. As you said, this setting is a way for her to find out answers to secrets her parents are holding from her, but she is unraveling. Also she wants her parents to tell he their side of this, in a way letting their biases be the first she gets exposed to thus believed. But her parents flee and run, as this did with this secret. Or is it both, her wanting to understand but it also bringing up trust issues. Roles and masks - we all have them, some more than others. "Decades old witch hunt." Also funny forecast with Goodie and the Pilgrim from hell in the end. Pugsley is the only one with the socialization or social awareness to thank the therapist because the session is over, the rest all is involved in their own minds and drama and just storm off. Wednesday followed by Morticia - this is all about excavating the secret. Her secret and lesser that of Gomez who was blamed. But if one lacks family and friends a therapist might be a good substitute at times for tea and crumpets. So, the setting was not optimal for a family setting, the office. Also the therapist is not the best.

I honestly wish I had u as a therapist because I used to go to therapy as a teenager and it didn’t go well. One day, I expressed to my therapist that there are things that my mom does to me that make me upset or uncomfortable and I wished that she would listen to me. My therapist suggested I invited her to a session so we could talk it out. I hesitantly agreed, so when the next session came around, I asked my mom to come in with me and she said yes. It became a terrible mistake because from the start to finish of the session, I was never able to express my feelings and it just became a therapy session for her. I was just there in the background. It was all about how her life was hard, how I needed Jesus in my life to cure my depression, I needed to listen to my mom more, etc. After that I never wanted to do therapy again, so after a couple more sessions of just me and my therapist, I lied saying I was better, and now I never want to go back to therapy. I don’t remember the details but now I have trouble opening up again.

I am really glad that even I was able to see that this therapist was really bad and unhelpful, I was even able to identify some of the problems on my own. On another note, I would be very curious to get your thoughts on the last couple episodes from the Harley Quinn show, specifically how she did in being Bruce Wayne's unofficial therapist. Granted I doubt that would be favored by the KZbin algorithm but it would be interesting because lets face it, if anyone needed serious help, it is Bruce Wayne

Yes, group therapy - especially family therapy - can be quite difficult, and the right or wrong therapist can make or break it. I recall one family session with me, my mom and dad, and the two young female therapists. While I didn't really know much about what 'toxic feminism' was (sorry, can't think of a better phrase) I was getting a vibe from them that seemed to be bordering on hostility towards my father, finding any way to vilify him while vindicating my mother. I know that sounds harsh and cruel, but none of us can say that it doesn't - or worse, can't - exist.
