You are NOT Hawaiian. The locals on some of those islands would kill you for that claim then feed you to the crabs or centipedes. Claiming a culture through living on their land is not the same as actually having extensive ancestral roots there. A real hawaiian wouldn't even touch this form of technology and your little lying ass knows it. Tahitians are also NOT hawaiians.

Yes, there are similarities and differences in the natures of potential catastrophe for both Iceland and Hawaii. My concerns about Iceland are potential global effects. Being situated where you are it is good to know as much as you can about volcanoes. Past eruptions of Iceland volcanoes have had widespread effects, especially on the people of Northern Europe. I guess it helps humanity that down-wind from Hawaii, for thousands of miles, is Pacific Ocean . I think Hawaii will find comfort in thousands of miles of Pacific Ocean in all directions.

Greetings from Darwin, Australia! I watch your updates with such fascination - Iceland has always been a place I longed to visit. Perhaps I will get the chance one day. In Australia we regularly face dangers from fire, flood, cyclones, etc. We are all aware of the importance of preparedness. So glad you are taking things seriously and warning your fellow countrymen of the possible dangers that may lie ahead. It is not scare-mongering to be prepared for what might happen - just common sense. We have cyclone kits here in the tropics in Darwin, so if the worst happens we can survive without essential services for at least a week. Our kits contain food, water, medication, important documents, ready cash in case we cannot us electronic payment methods, fuel, up-to-date photos of relatives and pets in case we get separated, and so on. We never know exactly where a cyclone will hit, and we may not see one for years, but we still prepare every cyclone season. Even though it is uncertain where and when the next eruption will be, there is no doubt lives and to some extent infrastructure can be protected with a little forethought. Thankyou so much for your excellent coverage! Hoping for a good outcome for you all. Stay safe!

Every century has 'great disruptions'. It's part of the normal behaviour of the planet. It's just that we've increased our population spread to the point that the disruptions cause massive impacts. Even the 'Great San Francisco Earthquake', while a huge mess, didn't have billions in electrical, gas, optical, steel, and other installations. It was mostly wood, brick, concrete, some gas, and dirt. The same event today would be crippling to half of the state of California (okay, more than they've managed to do on their own). Krakatoa, while it caused "The Year There Was No Summer", and had massive crop failures, didn't starve as many people as the same event today - even with global shipping. The only difference with it today is that we have an enormous number of people who will blame natural disasters on humans. As if what we're doing could cause effects 9 miles down. They think that movies and real life are the same thing.

The potential for big problems in the near future in Iceland is there, but at this moment the volcano on St Vincent is the major risk to life. A few years ago much of Montserrat had to be evacuated, too. When Tristan Da Cuna had an eruption, the whole population was removed to the UK until things were safer. Doing this in the case of Montserrat would be just about possible (and legally necessary as it's also a British territory). But the City of Reykjavik alone has nearly ten times the population of Montserrat, so even an evacuation to another part of Iceland (assuming there was somewhere safe) would be a major problem unless the planning and preparation started in good time. I think "in good time" would be around now.
@catherinehubbard11673 жыл бұрын
I hope this video is widely seen and that more Icelanders become aware of the real possibility of major impacts to infrastructure and local livability. The activity associated with the EIGHT KILOMETERS OF CRATERS (a huge danger zone) is very concerning. Given forewarning, I am wondering what plans are probably already made or in discussion for possible diversionary engineering/earthmoving projects for future lava eruptions. It sounds like the scale and unpredictability may make that difficult.
@tbelding3 жыл бұрын
sExcept that 'eight kilometers' isn't a very large area. If you're talking about square kilometers, that's four long, and two deep. If you're talking about a square 8 kilometers on a side, that's 64 square kilometers. Still not a huge area. It's a zone that one person could walk around the entire perimeter in a day. (32 linear kilometers, or just under 20 miles) The risk is more to what might be in the _way_ than the zone itself. Even in the Kilauea eruption in 2018, it erupted in the middle of a neighborhood - yet many people are back living there now. (obviously not the ones whose houses went under the lava). So, the hope would be to find ways to direct a lava flow to the ocean without destroying the airport, or the power plant(s). Hopefully they've made some plans for what would happen if the plant were to shut down.

Thank you for your excellent and very professional reports. 💕 Your research is carefully detailed and the overview you provide is so helpful. 👌 We in the international community greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into your reports. We pray that the government of Iceland, and it's Disaster Preparedness Team, is paying as much attention to the ever-growing possibility of these future developments as you are. 🌋 And we pray for the future safety of the people and beautiful city of Reykjavik and surrounding areas. 🙏💙

Got bumped for two days on our stopover from Holland to the US flight on Iceland air. We were treated so well, given tours around Reykjavik, the blue lagoon, best seafood we’ve ever eaten in our lives, and came home with Icelandic sweaters. Then on our way to Israel we had a 13 hour layover there, rented a car and tooled around. One of our favorite, most exotic places on earth. Addicted to these videos.

Thank you for covering and discussing this. Like many, I've fallen in love with Iceland and its people, and I've also stayed in Reykjavik and Grindavik. It makes me sad to think that either could be inundated by an eruption, and yet I know it's all part of the nature that has created this amazing place. I remember that Icelanders are very adaptable, adaptable, and inventive. I'm remembering how the harbor in the Westman Islands was saved from being closed-off by hosing down the advancing lava with sea water. I trust that you will all be ok, and that this will just be another chapter of Iceland's natural history where we also witness Icelandic perseverance at its finest.

I could watch those driving-around-videos for hours. So much open space, so much landscape. To be fair: The landscape is only idyllic as long as noone thinks about how dangerous it can be. Is there actually any spot in the whole of Iceland that is "safe"? No? Greetings from Austria!

I was able to go a few years ago and it's both beautiful and stark. It reminded my husband and I of "alien" landscapes in sci fi movies and video games.

The situation of Reykyavik is in many ways the same as the situation of the most densely populated part of the Netherlands. Reykjavik will have vulcanic eruptions nearby that will have the chance to make in inhabitable. The west of the Netherlands is under sea level and faces sea level rise, isostatic depression, more violent storms and rivers getting out of control.

@07:30 In a sense, you may very well be standing at the crossroads where you have told informative stories about the bedrock of Iceland, now standing face to face with the geological twilight of the century, and ultimately inspire the next generations to come in the fields of geology, geography, history, scenic photography, journalism, news/show hosts, and channel hosts in informative entertainment..! It's not even my dream to dream, yet I'm kind of dreaming of who you might inspire to greatness! Hahaha As always, thank you for the wonderful videos! Take care of yourself!
