Mitch wasn't just singing the song - he was performing the entire role! PTX doesn't get the chance to show off their musical theater chops that often, and when they do, they really tend to go for it!

What I love about this besides Mitch’s performance and voice but Scott’s and Mitch’s ability to consistently match their vibratos. Guess that stems from so many years singing together under the direction of a great choir teacher who taught them how to blend. Mitch and Kirstie are excellent at blending too.

They sang this in the same key as the Broadway stars, except Mitch went higher at the end.
@Badger777224 ай бұрын
What Mitch sang is how the song was originally written, but because he was just doing a "one-off", he could afford to go for that higher note - and nail it! I can certainly understand why Broadway performers, performing 6-8 shows a week, would tone it down just a little to avoid unnecessary stress on their voices.

I don't say that Mitch is my favorite male vocalist of all time for nothing!! His technique and pitch and range is just so incredible. And this was them just goofing off!!

"The Trio" first met as kids doing musical theater, so their acting chops go wayyyyy back. You'll discover several more examples the deeper you fall down the rabbit hole. Calling all composers...somebody needs to write a Broadway role specifically for Mitch and his voice. He needs to be showcased and celebrated. And yes, Scott (a baritone) has a staggering range - 5 to 6 octaves! He covers the bass when the bass (Avi/Matt) takes the lead, and can challenge Mitch or Kirstie a with his falsetto when necessary. Great reaction! I love to watch the shock, joy and appreciation when confronted by these talented people! More please!

A vocal coach who **teaches** women to sing this song noted Mitch went higher than was written in the part at the end. He was already above soprano's belt range, and he hit it. Hard. We all felt the character through him. Always a pleasure to rewatch this music with new friends. Cheers!

All of Pentatonix was in the NBC special for the 15th anniversary of Wicked. They performed "What is This Feeling". They all amazed!!! In this song Kirsty sings the "green" vocals and Mitch sings the "blond" vocals. The audience got into the performance so much. Hope you watch and enjoy!

The video for this is a little hard to find. On YT it's only in other reactors videos. The original from the program has been removed from YT. I believe it's still on FB, but can be a little hard to find--takes a bit of searching, but worth it!

Scott's range is amazing. He reaches some very high notes here, and also covers the base for Avi/Matt (Hallelulah, Sounds of Silence, etc).

Love this! I don't think you have done it yet, but Wizard Of Ahhs is definitely worth checking out with Todrick Hall and PTX. Theatrical mashup and It is very good.

That’s funny that you mentioned that Mitch had the pitch before he belts out the note. A vocal coach reactor actually pointed out how he did it and used it for instruction for her students to get the pitch before it comes out. She pointed out the he tuned it on the closed mouth M of the word ( Meeee)so that when he opened his mouth to sing it, he knew he was already there. He’s a very technical singer. *Editing to point out that it’s the very video that shows up as your recommended when you stopped their video. That’s exactly where she talks about Mitch tuning he note before opening his mouth during this song. If you want to watch her. Her name is Tara Simon studios. She’s a big fan of Mitch’s voice and technique.

That was in the original key and Mitch takes the optional note at the end that even some of the women who’ve sung the role don’t take. He’s awesome! And so is Scott.

Great reaction! About their friendship, they met doing a local production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when Mitch was 8 and Scott was 9! Mitch was Mike TV and Scott was Charlie. At some point Mitch met Kirstie, and the three of them sang as a trio when they were in high school. If you haven't yet, please check out the three of them doing a video cover of the movie Frozen. When you do that, be sure to check out the bloopers at the end. You will really get a sense of the strong friendship they have, and it makes sense that they are still out there performing together every week and loving it.
