Glad to see you back. Sorry about the raccoon problem. My partner Rose’s 7 year old grandson is with us while his parents are out in Nebraska with another son. He really got into today’s video and your explanations of farming and livestock raising. I explained to him that everything he likes to eat comes from farming. He asked multiple questions about the pigs, chickens and Dexters. Hope you, Hillary and family have a great week.

In total agreement with you on clipping Pete. The dry spell zapped a lot of nutritional value out of the grass. I always enjoy watching Hilarie sort cattle. She's a natural! Peter, I do the same as you with my small .25 acre yard for grass clippings. The grass is in it's second seeding because of the dry weather. and I don't want to save these clippings for mulch for the garden sooo,...I clip high to drop the seeding grass and then let the grass grow till I can have clippings for garden mulch or humus. Boy the cows were sure noisy on your video. Hunger is a great motivator. I enjoy watching you and Hilary a couple times a week.

Raccoon is really good cooked in Campbell's French Onion soup mixed with Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup. Cook the coon until it falls off the bone. Use a large flat spoon to get the grease off top. Take the coon out and strip it off the bones. I make mashed potatoes with macaroni and cheese for sides, serving the coon on toast with the "gravy" spooned over everything. The coon will have the taste and texture of roast beef.

I've trapped 5 coons so far at my chicken pen. They come after dark and reach through the fencing to grab pellets laying on the ground. I use Conibear traps in front of a 5 gallon bucket laying on its side. I bait the back of the bucket with corn and sprinkle a bit in front of the trap. They can't resist reaching into the bucket. Trap gets them every time.

to show u how capricious weather can be go down to the PA broader from Pete's and then go west about 50 mi or 70mi SW of Pete's and u find Trougsburg NY. Here in May we got but 3/4 inch rain and in June we have gotten just 1-/12 inches. It is June 23 and we are to get some rain over the next week but Pete will get a lot more then we will over here on the east wall of the Allegany Plateau. But that 1-1/2 inches came just after we finished 1st cutting so the grass is coming back like gang buster. Just hope over the next week we get at least 1/2 inch.

Hello Pete! Good to see you back on the farm, although I did enjoy the videos on the Red Power. I had problems with raccoons a few years ago, I did relocate 4, but I had 5 and couldn't confirm the relocation of the fifth one, not from a lack of trying. I agree with you on the clipping of the hay, I did that for a guy last year and left it lay, but he couldn't leave it so he had someone come in and rake and bale it up. Oh well, their choice, but I think it does help more for the pastures. Anyways, great video, enjoyed it thoroughly, thanks and have a wonderful day!

Great video Pete! Was wondering if you were gonna sickle it or use a brush hog. We’ve done both. Sold my ford 501 sickle afew years ago and have regretted it ever since. In our case, with older equipment, running over an entire field for afew bales isn’t worth the wear on the old haybine, Baler etc. plus there is a lot to be gained by feeding the organic matter of the soil. Welcome back to NY. Loved the red power roundup videos!
