RUMINATIONS: The “temporal shields” thing is one of my many attempts at hand-waving the tropes of the storyline in the review. As I’ve said before, I know full well that it’s absolutely ridiculous that an internet reviewer is somehow important enough to justify all the villains he runs into. But since I have to justify it, I also have to justify why they’re not showing up every week to harass the main character. The temporal shields and interdimensional travel seemed like a perfectly natural hand-wave (and one I’d repeat later on with Jaeris the Gunslinger a few years later).
As for Cry for Justice itself… blegh. Just blegh. I think what’s absolutely the worst thing about it is how completely pointless the “story” itself is. Green Lantern has a temper tantrum, fights a few minor villains, Prometheus breaks into the JLA Satellite, all heroes are useless and child dies. It’s disjointed, irritating, badly-written (especially from someone who’s MUCH better than this crap) and just downright BORING.

6:40 Sad part is, in Green Lantern:The Animated Series, the writers make a point of Hal Jordan standing up for the rights of criminals and the difference between justice and torture. I guess it just shows the difference in quality the two are.

Sometimes, it really feels like Robinson wanted to write Cry For Justice as a Starman/Congorilla teamup book, but when DC editorial forced him to make it about the Justice League instead, he refused to put any effort into those parts except for taking snipes at Gail Simone.

Actually, Robinson did write a Starman/Congorilla one-shot that takes place after Cry for Justice and actually undoes some of the things that happened. I don’t know if it’s good, but it’s probably way more fun than this comic if it’s about those two.

Another stupid part about that bomb thing; having Hal's DNA in the blast wouldn't override his ring. The lantern rings channel a user's specific emotion to create constructs, so, unless it could replicate Hal's willpower too, his shield would hold.

Linkara was wrong about Bizarro...that's not Bizzarro that's Composite Superman. Look at the right leg, the cape, and the top of his head. He's Half Sperman Half Batman and is laying on the Batman side. And if I'm not mistaken, Composite Superman is stronger than Bizzaro, literally having all the powers of all the known super heroes. So it's even more unlikely Green Lantern and Green Arrow won.

They are also the most proactive heroes, who take steps to achieving a clear goal. by all logic they should been the lead characters.

@@AlexaRobin21 and even then, the main opposing characters to them could have interesting opposing dynamics to then. Like fightning a police officer or a mafia boss who use the "legal system" to get scott free with everything he or she is doing (meaning the law is not giving results, and the opposing characters wanting revenge or justice is more justified, ESPECIALLY if they make them similar to the Elite, or the Punisher). AND EVEN BETTER if they had at one poitn said this "Was it Justice Everytime Batman put the Joker in Arkham even if Joker killed and got to kill everytime he escaped?" The would be interesting because "they (the hypothethical opposing characters) are technically right or have a point at least" and if they somehow use telepathy to "brainwash dangerous people like psychothic serial killers" on the people they consider redeemable it would be even more interesting because "they are technically making sure justice is delivered". AND EVEN more interesting if one of our lead characters had a loved one pesecuted by crime (think Bucky in Captain America: Civil War), because that would be an interesting case of "What is justice?"

Honestly I doubt that was intentional. Just a sign of bad editorial work. As the inker probably had no idea what was up with the characters or the title. And the title was probably penned long before the art was finished.

I don’t think the title correlated with the characters. If you look closely you can still see that they both are a slightly darker shade. Likely an artistic mistake. Besides, it would be better for a comic book company to be for diversity these days since you can expand your audience.

I love how it's COMPLETE COINCIDENCE that everyone's loved ones just HAPPEN to be dying at the same time. It's like Countdown but downright flippant about the carnage; everyone's dying just to motivate the heroes. Not just women in fridges-this is like a whole town stuffed into a warehouse of refrigerators. It's frankly lazy and repetitive alongside being downright offensive.

Prometheus is such a shitty villain. He has all of the worst aspects that make a crappy villain. He’s overpowered, never shows any signs of weakness or struggle, is over confident (and not in a fun way, but a really annoying way), always has contingencies no matter how completely implausible, and his motivation is ridiculously idiotic. He wants to kill all the superheroes because of what two of them did to him? You know, with two seconds of rewriting, I could fix this. All you’d have to do is make Prometheus into a PARODY of the type of villain he embodies. Like a Professor Chaos type. He acts super boastful and like he’s always on top while in actuality he’s incredibly insecure and constantly doubts himself, just doing the “ultra maxi extreme super villain” act for the appearance.

13:31 ANOTHER good plot point they could have used to make this story better: have an "Elite-esque Group" employing Punisher levels of Justice, but also using methods like Mind-Wiping, to deal with villains. that way at least you could tackle the angles of "What is Really Justice?" ESPECIALLY if the alien and the intelligent ape were the main characters trying to free a dictadorship who "Is giving Justice from their perspective", making this way more interesting

It's pretty sad when a video game about a group of Japanese teenagers (plus a talking not-cat that can turn into a bus) dressing up in ridiculous outfits and entering an alternate dimension where they steal the desires of evil people is a better examination of the concept of justice than this. Persona 5 isn't perfect on this matter because of the ethical implications of the Phantom Thieves methods are barely examined. Still, it's told from the point of view of the victims of injustice so that the game can contrast the injustice faced by the protagonists with justice that they deliver. Cry For Justice does not. It also makes clear the difference between revenge and justice. Cry For Justice does not make this distinction.

I just thought of something: with all these bad stories about these jackass heroes trying to be super-heroic by being proactive and stopping crime and villainy before they happen, I finally figured out how you can make a proactive superhero team work: Have them be the villains. Think about it; a group that starts out as heroes, who want to do more good in the world, but as they continually work to stop crimes before they happen, they end up gradually turning evil, becoming gradually more fascistic and dictating, to the point that they end up working to unilaterally taking over the world (Of course! :P), but still trying to make the excuse that they're doing it for a noble cause. In the right hands, I think one could do great things with such heroes-turned-villains.

Y'know, something just occurred to me that I'm surprised I didn't think of it any of the other times I watched this video: if there's _any_ hero in the DCU that should _not_ be concerned with Hal Jordan torturing a villain, it's _Oliver fucking Queen._ Dude has elevated torture to an art form. It's kinda his thing. So, that line is stupid for _two_ reasons. If anything, it should have been _Ollie_ doing the torturing, with _Hal_ being the one who's uncomfortable.

You know what would actually be a great way to Be Justice without just reactively stopping crimes? Start working the streets again as opposed to only taking on the big world ending threats (I know that's not the way the Justice League has ever really been, but that's the only way this comic makes any kind of sense). Help your communities, fight small time criminals, use the massive political power the JLA has to push politicians towards social change. All of this would make for a really interesting story that I don't think they've ever done in a Justice League comic before.

A bit off topic, but green arrow is renown for torturing people. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a hero, this story notwithstanding, but it feels like he should be more worried that Hal and Ray, a cop and a scientist respectively, were so willing to use torture.

Another insult this comic fosters on people in perticular infinity inc fans is the fact the two minor villians mikaal and congorilla fight in issue 4 are penny dreadful and arak of HELIX.....these two are family to each other...what penny did to arak is completely out of character for her...course being out of character seems to be a thing for this series. I'll save my rage for issue 7 when its posted

I don't know maybe it's because he has called out Green Lantern before, but I see Green Arrows reassurance to Supergirl as a jab at Green Lantern, especially with that "candy bar" line. It could also just be that, if I was the one Green Arrow was talking to, I would interpret it that way, whatever his intentions.

Nerds of the Lost Cinema Productions honestly, though I love both companies, I think they both suck just as much. Marvel has the better movies, DC has the better games, Marvel usually has better single issues, while DC debatably has better events. It’s a vicious cycle. Let’s just end this stupid DC vs Marvel debate by saying they both suck and they’re both great. Hey Linkara! Huge fan of your work. I know you swore off the manga in terms of atop the fourth wall, but do you think you could do a longbox of the damned about the manga, "Jojo' Bizzare Adventure", I mean... The main villain is a vampire. I'm of course talking about "Dio Brando". He appears in part 1 : "phantom blood" (which technically hasn't been localized in the west, because the manga contains a large number of cultural refferences, even going as far as to name a lot of its characters after famous bands, and songs by them. Probably best to read it online if at all) and part 3: "stardust crusaders" (which officially is the only part to have been released in the west.) While I'm not sure if you're aware of its existence, I would still like to know your opinion on it, even if we can't get an "episode" out of it. Anyway, keep being awesome
