He cracked me up so hard every time he came on screen, while basically doing nothing! I mean, sure, it wouldn't take much to upstage the trainwreck taking place, well, upstage, but that look, face, and behavior would've been hilarious in any context. I was so bummed not to be able to see his face during the long-shot of the performance, since the video is only 240p.

Now, I’m fully aware that things that are billed as live in the TV world are almost never really live but SNL can actually cut sketches? This sketch never aired as in it was filmed and then cut during the broadcast. I’ll admit I did think SNL was too etched into the pop culture lexicon with an emphasis on the “live” to be filmed and then edited and all that. Interesting
@tehpunkrockmom5 жыл бұрын
This was dress rehearsal. They cut sketches between dress and air
@Research0digo Жыл бұрын
The dress rehearsal has several extra sketches, which get eliminated judging by the audience's reaction. Very rare for the dress show to go to air instead. The time between dress & air performances in an hour & a half. BOTH performances are live. Capturing them on film for posterity doesn't mean pre-taped.

The sketch relied completely on absurd props. The audience not laughing at a silly guitar doesn't necessarily mean they were too young or their sense of humor wasn't sophisticated enough. They likely wouldn't have thought his wacky hat was particularly funny either. The sketch died long before the minor problem of not having the wacky hat ready.

Bill Hader plays 2 instruments, sings, writes his own songs, and can dance like nobody's business. He was in 3 movies in one summer while he was on SNL, while married with a little girl at the same time. Conceived of Barry in late 2015, won Best Male Lead in a Comedy Series 2 years in a row, Won 2 DGAs, a PGA, a WGA, a Peabody, an Indie Wire and Gold Derby Awards. He directed the pilot & next 2 episodes - 1st time ever directing. The same year that Barry premiered he was also nominated for Emmys for his work in Documentary Now!, which brought his total nominations, in 2018, to 21! Season 2 of Barry he was nominated for 13 awards I think it was, winning several. Both Barry and Democracy Now! were his ideas. You're totally right, though, he probably couldn't sing any Beiber songs. (gag)
