Dimash was only 22 in this contest of Professional, established singers. He was invited as a wild card. You have dozens of songs to hear. Dimash has been singing since he started training at 5 years old. He has two degrees in classical and contemporary music, a masters in composition and is working on his PhD. Dimash has worked very hard every single day of his entire life singing/performing/training to get to where he is. He is only 23 in this clip, he will be 27 on May 24th 2021. Sooooo, if you worked as long & hard as he has every day of your life, then ..... :D Use him as an inspiration. There is no one on the planet that can sing like Dimash. His voice is gorgeous. The Slavic Bazaar was from Russia. Dimash was 22yrs old when in China. He will be 22yrs old May 24th. This was a competition between non amateur singers. Dimash was invited as a wild card competitor. He was an unknown to the audience and the other competitors. The only non Chinese. He came in second. The show was "I AM SINGER". Yes, he became a well known singer in China after the song SOS. This is a tv reality singing contest (on Hunan tv, China) for established award-winning Chinese singers. Dimash was invited as a wild card. In each of the 14 weekly episodes, the most awaited singer is slated last and the least awaited comes first. Dimash was first in the first episode. He was pretty much unknown in China, so the applause was to give him a warm welcome, not because they expected him to win. Then, Dimash opened his mouth, and sang.

He is university trained in classical as well as contemporary music, and is known for his exceptionally wide vocal range. He has performed songs in twelve languages. Although offered a position at the Astana Opera, he decided to carve out his career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music. He gained significant popularity in Kazakhstan and other post-Soviet countries in 2015 upon becoming the Grand Prix winner of Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, Belarus. He rose to fame in China with his participation as a "wildcard competitor" in Hunan TV's Singer 2017 finishing second overall. He was the youngest participant in the contest, not Chinese, and his rivals were the best vocalists in Asia. To win, it was necessary to go through twelve stages and the final, and all performances must have been different in musical genres and scenarios. The first stream of the contest took place on January 21, 2017 ("SOS", which you just watched), and in two days it was watched by 600 million viewers. With each selection stage, the singer’s popularity grew rapidly and soon it spread all over Asia, even though Dimash did not become a winner and let the singer from Hong Kong the first.

Loved your reaction. The song “SOS” is originally from a French-Canadian musical called ‘Starmania’ from the 1970s and is considered one of the five most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash performed here at the 2017 "I AM A SINGER" competition. It is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers where the audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. The audience is the same throughout the entire show, 500 with musical backgrounds and they judge the show by points each week. The competition consisted of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest given that he was completely unknown to the audience. He had been invited as a wildcard and was the first foreigner and youngest person to ever compete in the show. After this performance, he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! He also won the 6th, for his rendition of “Adagio”, a song made famous by Lara Fabian. First place went to the famous Chinese 51 y/o singer Sandy. Sandy's first album came out before Dimash was even born. Dimash took second place, however, lost by a very narrow margin. He lost a lot of points for his performance of “Uptown Funk”. Although Dimash did not win the show, he immediately became a beloved star in China. As part of the contest contestants/performers are each required to perform one original song they have composed. Dimash sang “Unforgettable Day”, a song he wrote when he was still in his teens - it's a love song. He sang in both the original Kazakh as well as in Chinese even though he did not speak Chinese at the time and had to have a translator with him throughout the competition. Dimash was very nervous before this performance as he had been in China without his family support and didn’t know how he would come over. Yet he gave everything. Incidentally, a girl called Tia Ray followed him and she was amazing. Although he didn’t win the final, Dimash got world recognition and has gone on to do amazing things.

This was Dimash's first performance as an unknown wild card on the Chinese Singer 2017 competetion. He was the first on that night and imagine how all the other contestants felt having to perform after this. He got 600million hits on Weibo that night and needed bodyguards the next day in order to get out of his hotel, etc. Dimash is incomparable. The G.O.A.T. in my opinion. This was Singer competition in China. The competition was for professionals, which Dimash was not. He was 22 at this time. The youngest ever on the show. This was from a Chinese show where professional, well known singers compete. They invited Dimash - who is from Kazakhstan and was the youngest on the show - to be a 'wild card' singer. The show was a competition for well known professional singers in China and is really worth watching - the competitors, musicians, backup singers, technicians and production values are second to none. Dimash was invited to participate as a wild card and wasn’t expected to go very far in the competition. Competing singers (there were 10 finalists, 13 episodes) performed live on stage and the 500-member audience (all connected to the music industry) voted, deciding the outcome of the results in knockout rounds - a gruelling process for competitors who had to present a new song every week. Dimash was the first foreigner to perform on the show and he was 22 at the time. As the least known artist Dimash was first up to perform in the very first episode. He sang this song (SOS), won the round and became an overnight sensation in China. He won 3 rounds. From there he gained a global fan base. He will turn 27 in a few days.

This is a competition for professional singers who are invited to perform (all brilliant famous singers) not like our talent TV shows! The audience are all in the music industry and they are the judges, they and the other contestants had never seen Dimash perform before this performance. This was the first episode and Dimash was up first. He came first in this episode but 2nd in the overall 14 week competition (we think because it was a Chinese state run competition, Dimash a foreigner, wasn’t allowed to win). They changed the rules the following year and Jessie J from England won. This is how Dimash got his big break though, 600 million Chinese downloaded this performance and he became a superstar in China, literally overnight. His first album went platinum in China in 37 mins, 3 times platinum within the hour and 5 times platinum within the day!

To address controversy, it's usually a policy or unwritten rule that only an indigenous national is qualified to win a national competition. This issue was also big for America's Got Talent. No one compares to Dimash. Yet another great young singer from Kazakhstan was a ringer to enhance AGT last year. Daneliya Tuleshova won The Voice Kids Ukraine at 10 years old with the vocal maturity and presence of a seasoned adult pro. If you react to her audition be sure to hear the encore number too. A consistent controlled deep-register vocal fry from a tiny little girl might surprise you. Her voice at 14 could be another pleasant surprise. Maybe there's something special in the Kazakh air or diet. Perhaps surviving several decades of Soviet nuclear tests gave us these beautiful mutant super-singers. I'm an adoring fan of both. Amazing singers and wonderful people.
