Hi everyone, if you're looking for the older video about my productivity tips, it's here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXSXmX2Ca5Zga6c What's your TOP productivity secret? The one tip you stick too and that really makes your life easier? :-)

I was struggling with creativity during the pandemic and found my old system wasn't working for me. I did a weekly schedule on Sunday afternoons and prioritized what had to be done in time blocks...time felt so weird and elusive. It helped me manage better, and get things done...and I added time to my day to read, to spend more time with those I hold dear. Thank you for your content on KZbin...I always learn something! 🙂

My productivity tip is simple but very effective and important. Write everything down, make notes. I noticed that when I take classes or read a book, the information goes into one ear and leaves through the other. A week later I don’t seem to remember much of it. This means that I’ve absorbed very little. Taking notes helps with that. It makes you think about what you heard and what you’ve learned. It’s also a great tool for reviewing and solidifying knowledge.

I use a very minimal bullet journal - skipping the Pinterest worthy designs, I just write down and consider what I need to do in a basic bullet journal style. The writing helps me anchor it in my mind and surprisingly frees my mind. I don't need to "hold on to" what I am planning to do and I gain more room to think about the tasks at hand. I do use a certain amount of color labelling to help me find things faster. Using a journal as opposed to an app helps me keep things in one place that isn't dependent on whether my phone is updated enough to use it or if the developer decides to change the subscription modules. And I can look back on what I've written for inspiration. .

The one thing that helped most with my own productivity was learning to walk away and call it a day. As a workaholic it was difficult to find that balance - but once found my productivity went way up. Funny how that works!

This made me want to plot down how my week actually looks and make changes for the better. Also, looove the part when you were observing (you nailed it 😀) bc we don’t have to physically do things to appear and convince ourselves that we are busy or productive bc our minds are working still. Hope you’re having a great summer, tell your aunt I said hello 😂

I have owned my own accounting business for almost 10 years now. The intersection of efficiency and practicality has always been my focus. Some days I succeed. Most days I have the opportunity to be flexible. Many years ago (pre-pandemic) a mentor shared a piece of advice that was small but helpful: when working from home, wear shoes. Outdoor shoes tend to trick the brain into handling external responsibilities so you can hurry up and get done and “kick those shoes off.” Now that many folks are home a lot more, I know that some cultures have concerns about wearing shoes indoors. I suggest selecting a comfortable pair and clean the soles so the home stays clean and sanitary. This advice has worked for me. I hope it works for your viewers too. Thank you for being genuine Justine and God bless.

Great ideas. I have been trying to find the balance for years as a SAHM with creative hobbies, often I went through weeks feeling like all I could do was look at the materials or tools of my craft, as I pushed through days of endless housework. The reason? I listened to the organisational experts who tell you to make fun activities a reward for getting through the task list. I realised last year that my creative pursuits are not a reward to be earnt, they are an expression of myself, and when I suppress them, the rest of my output crashes. So I realised they are essential to my every day functioning- some days moments throughout the day will keep me on track, some days I drop the housework and put all my focus on my hobbies. I'm doing so much better in terms of productivity and mental health

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 31 and it was like the veil was removed from over my eyes lol. Now I know why certain things are difficult for me. I log my schedule down using a formula from the bullet journal method but I've never color coded anything to separate "work" from "not work." I'm gonna steal this from you! Thank you for the video!

Thanks for sharing- this world makes us all adhd…. I struggled in my 40s with attention and focus issues.. i dont have a formula yet but have had to manage myself when in past had great powers of focus.. i also take herbal blends to boost brain and reduce anxiety.. this helps alot!! Also a prayer life, with meditation on scripture or music helps!! 💕

@@unitedheartsamerica5924 thanks for the tips! I'm grateful for my therapist, they've given me great tips and coping exercises when I hit a wall or go through a melt down or shut down. I've been using the bullet journal method for years (even before I knew about my diagnosis) and it turns out the founder/creator has ADHD, too! Alot of the set ups online are super aesthetic, but I use Carroll's original no frills formula--my attention span just can't handle anything else. And I love music! I'm always listening to something, it helps me focus. I also stim and use fidget toys while I'm waiting in line or doing something that requires patience.

I'm 26 and just got diagnosed with ADD... the imagery of having a veil lifted is spot on for me. The diagnosis has removed the guilt I've carried about being "lazy" my entire life and my days are now filled with the productivity and creativity I've always known I've had
@Riververchi
@Riververchi 2 жыл бұрын
Not to you but more like a personal observation: I was SURE I had ADHD until I started to notice a peculiar trend in me: when it was something less interesting to me, less fascinating, I'd loose focus, couldn't get through book or a video loosing attention every 3 (!) minutes. And then I observed how I was STUCK and glued to the videos and books that were all about my interest. Here is how I realized I might be just trying to be interested in wrong things.
@SrirachaSandvvitch
@SrirachaSandvvitch 2 жыл бұрын
@@Riververchi that actually can be an ADHD thing. After learning I had this, I went around reading as much as I can about it. Turns out, alot of people with this disorder are super creative, though, because of our low levels of dopamine, we go "seeking" for things that stimulate us. It's almost impossible for us to focus on something that bores us; we need help in the form of meds and/or exercises. Something we like, we're able to do it without fail. That's the part that often gets us mistaken for being lazy. Like: how can we have all this passion for video games, but can't focus on homework?? It's pretty interesting stuff, and alot of neurotypical people have a hard time not seeing it as lazy 🤷🏾‍♀️

I like the stones analogy. I actually always felt that house chores were big stones for me but I always prioritized work stuff and the messy rooms, laundry, food prep etc. were always on my mind, keeping me stressed while I tried to do the work. Once I do the chores, I bet that the work stuff will immediately feel like medium stones and pebbles. Thank you for turning it "upside down" 🤗

Great video, Justine. Thank you very much for sharing an example week! I loved seeing that. I usually don't include everything in my planning (like lunch), but I definitively have a similar approach to balance my tasks. I'm currently struggling with saying "no" to being used, which sadly happens a lot on my job (research scientist), and "yes" to share resources, which sometimes is crucial to improve teamwork. I also have lists of crazy-and-not-so-crazy ideas, and I love going there to fish one when I'm getting stuck. Thanks for your inspiration!

Money making and "productivity" commits first... and health and relationships squeezed in. It's refreshing to see a inspiring entrepreneur like you touch on this issue and make it more acceptable to shift what we value and how we spend our time towards activities that are so often undervalued .

Thanks Justine. I loved the window into your creative flow and the making lists, mary poppins reference. How important it is to allow for the space and time to let the mind meander and then capture the creative thoughts, be it on paper on a digital app. I'm going to try this - put it in the calendar and make it real. Being able to observe, be inspired, be moved....all in repose almost. The mind is very active without appearing to be. Again, merci, xxx

As a high school teacher, I do try to plan my lessons at school and also do my marking (during my 'free time'), but it seems like I always have to bring my job home as I am too much of a disciplined person!!! I definitely should slot more "me time" to save my sanity! From now on, I will use a calendar more effectively! Thank you, Justine, for sharing your method.

Justine, you video was just what I needed! I have been feeling stuck creatively for some time now, but watching your video made me realise I have done a lot of creative things in the last two months without crediting myself for doing them -- linocut workshop, composting for the first time, reading for pleasure, journaling, etc. Pressurising myself to feel accomplished in only one way (which, in my case, is writing my dissertation) has only made way for the negativity seep in. Rather unhelpful. Thank you so much for shifting my perspective. I sincerely wish you all the best. :)

Merci, Justine! Excellent advice here, as always. I laughed when you showed your calendar technique, which is almost exactly the same, right down to the color-coding, as what I've done for many years. It got me all the way through college & grad school. I even taught it to my many classes of college freshmen! The big difference, & one I applaud, is your focus on personal time as the most important. I love that you're still getting it all done, but taking care of yourself while doing it. Your intro discussion of transitioning back to being in the world of life & work full time is reassuring, to say the least. One thing the pandemic has taught me is how very similar, how very connected, people are, even in this atmosphere of global strife & change. I'm transitioning slowly, & definitely not interested in hopping back onto the old hamster wheel at the expense of my physical & mental health.

Love love love the practical examples and how you showed us your calendar planning + how you just observe what’s around you and write down ideas/projects to have in your lists. Reminds me a lot about Jordan Peterson, he says in some video on KZbin to keep a calendar but to not be constrained by it.
