Never understood why people say Noel can't sing. He's always had a terrific voice. Liam's voice is more distinctive and iconic but it's also abrasive and whiny, whereas Noel's is more ear candy and pleasing. They both have their place in The Oasis canon. They're 2 sides of the same coin and complement each other perfectly. It would be boring if they sounded alike.

Wonderful episode, Justin, and yes it is a terrific song. Noel seems to have found a new power of reflection and storytelling with his lyrics. And his voice has acquired a richer, velvety texture, too, which suits these new songs perfectly. He was promising this with some earlier songs like The Dying of the Light, which is simply heartwrenching. And the overall quality of what he is creating now is consistently high. I don't know how he does it.

He once said in an interview about his view on religion, that his (now ex) wife was an angel in his eyes. In a short behind the scenes to the recording of "Dead To The World" on his YT channel, he told the choir: "It needs to be really angelic..." This track hits you hard in the feels. My take on this: I think he wrote the track while being deeply hurt, and this was like a way for him to find a meaning in the situation, like a kind of personal therapy. I love the glissando strings (an actual medium sized string ensemble), it's so 007/otherworldly :)

As someone who has unfortunately suffered with mental health issues for some time, The Darkness to this day are still one of my happy places where I retreat to, alongside Ghostbusters. Your work has saved my life several times over, and I will be eternally grateful, especially as I am in the middle of rebuilding a better life now that I have found my purpose again. How? If anything the songs he's releasing now are more similar to his oasis ones than ever, i think he might be making these kinds of songs in preparation for it because he's been talking very positively about a reunion as of late and has suddenly started writing these songs, this one in particular is reminiscent of 'talk tonight' in many ways.
@christopherguse
@christopherguse Жыл бұрын
@@ryanname2503 I won't debate a similarity to Oasis or not Oasis, it's all Noel to me. What I would cite is the difference in the Oasis performance of Live Forever and Noel's as a solo artist at his age. There's a nuance that shows maturity, wisdom and growth and I see that in the HFB. As to why I fear a reunion, well, I it's because of that nuance. Has Liam matured the same way? Thinking of Sail On, Easy Now or Dead to the World, would they be better with Liam? Would his boisterous "rock n roll" delivery, admittedly brilliant in its way, really make Noel's current tunes better or just feed our nostalgia? An artist can live forever by being loud and brash and making a scene. Another lives forever by creating something more permanent.

Noels voice is the only voice that would work on this song. If Liam did it, the song would be totally different and not as good. Their voices are very different and don't work on every song.

In this song Noel moans about "not knowing where I've been". In Shakermaker he wrote that he would like to be somebody else and not know where he's been. So he has got what he wanted in this song.

I'm looking forward to the longform podcasts. I really enjoyed your conversation with Luke Spiller. You seemed to click with each other and instead of an interview there was a naturally flowing conversation where time was forgotten and both were just being honest and had a fun time. If you click with the guests, you are an absolute natural with a format like this.

Noel has always been the more subtle, fragile voiced counterpoint to Liam. It’s what makes him so interesting to listen to. Separately both have interesting careers. IF they both get in a room to settle their personal differences and Oasis do reform, let’s hope their is a real spark there. Later oasis output wasn’t the most inspiring to listen to.

Yeah for me personally I’d want Oasis to return with new material as well as the tours etc, and for it to be really good too. Which I think is absolutely possible because A) Noel seems to have moved beyond the confines of imitating Oasis classics in his time away from the band, and B) I bet there’s plenty more where this came from: his writing is best when it’s pure emotion like this, and I’m sure he’ll have a load of brilliant ‘heartbreak songs’, and when you pair that with the sheer iconicness (not a word but oh well aha) of Liam’s voice… could have another Slide Away on our hands. Or something close. So for that reason more than any other it’d be great if they made up- and for their mum and each other of course

@@aggravation_band Finally someone with a functional brain says something that makes sense! I felt how my mood was dropping from reading the utter crap others are spouting. Yeah if Noel's mind enters rock'n'roll headspace a reformation of Oasis is on the table. Not otherwise. I'd love more rock music regardless if Noel writes it or Liam writes it. Preferably Liam because he has alot to prove about it.

6:50 there’s certain stuff Noel writes that makes you wish the two still talked so Liam could sing it. But there’s also songs he writes that’s perfectly fit for his voice. It was like that with oasis where he’d sing some of the slower songs like half the world away while Liam sang the rock n roll songs

Always a fun time Justin, thanks for the episode ! I checked out the JH store- good start on that one, I like the design. When might we see the shirt you wore in this episode in the store? That's the one I want. Cool video clip with that design as well. Also, I really love the song breakdowns when you do them in your episodes and for me the more technical you get the better! You know your stuff and then you add a rock-centric opinion to it all and that's extra fun.

For all i know its one hes had on the backburner for some time. I've listened to this mans music since i was 14/15 years old. Liam saw me through my youth, but Noel is guiding me musically through my older life, and long may he continue.
