Nicest dudes too, you wouldn’t have to worry about them beating ya up, they’re quick friends with most. Came from the hard streets, but it’s humbled them for sure. They befriended and supported a lot of poppier punk and emo bands back when they were just coming up, because they saw a lot of parallels to the struggles their generation of punk rock had back in the day, instead of bullying anyone they stood with them. Those kids were all skin and bones, make up and swooped hair, buddies with these guys sharing stages and goin on tours. They’re pretty good dudes.

Hey Justin, it's really cool that you reviewed Rancid. Everyone here is mentioning their record 'And Out Come The Wolves' (with good reason). I first came to enjoy their music much later on, specifically their record called 'Indestructible'. It is similar to 'Easter Is Cancelled' in that I would call it their lead singer's 'divorce record'...lots of songs about Tim's breakup. The songs 'Indestructable', 'Fall Back Down', 'Red Hot Moon' and one of my favorites 'Ghost Band' are great listens. Soo many other great tracks too.

The breakdown of UK v. US punk is pretty spot on. Probably why I preferred the UK bands. Definitely some exceptions of course. Black Flag. Minor Threat. Nowadays, seems like you need to look “Down Under” at bands like Amyl and the Sniffers & The Chats for that UK flavor.

Trivia: As for reminding you of The Clash, Tim Armstrong has often mentioned them as huge inspirations, both in interviews and in songs, and Rancid was accused of blatantly ripping of The Clash for quite a while. Then Joe Strummer was signed to Tim's record label Hellcat, and he stayed there until he died, and I think that made people shut up about it. Also, Lint was Tim Armstrongs nickname back in the Gilman St. days.
@ListedMia-sm4xm
@ListedMia-sm4xm 11 ай бұрын
Yes you are correct Tim is lent when he was on telegraph Avenue playing after operation ivy broke up to make money on the corner of Gilman and telegraph and the Clash rip off thing is pretty annoying. Hellcat is owned by Joe Strummer RIP, as well as Tim/lint Armstrong Rancid does a cover of, the clashes song cheat, Joe Strummer says himself that he is passing down punk to rancid. I don’t think they sound like a clash that much at all. Honestly, they have their own sound they sound more like the Ramones. As a KZbin critique on rancid and just found out about them, will learn that Tim Armstrong is very non-aggressive, melodic and considered a poet. You need to look up his acoustic set Tim Armstrong, a poets, life, and all of his other projects he’s not heavy hard like London second wave they have some of that hard-core sound for the fans that only respect that type but that is not this band whatsoever. Do you research please

I’m here to rep their self-titled album from 2000 (commonly called “Rancid 2000” so as to distinguish it from their self-titled 1993 debut). Not to dismiss their 4 previous records, which are all brilliant in their own unique ways, and present a fascinating real-time look at a punk band exploring melody, slower tempos and all manner of non-punk things . But “Rancid 2000” shows that band, having mastered anthemic pop-punk and reggae inflected grooves, circling back around to their punk rock roots and sounding more ferocious than ever. It’s still got some earworms and anthems for the more mainstream-minded folks who’d stuck around since they broke big on MTV, but it’s truly about as savage a hardcore punk rock as the 21st century has yet produced. Cheggitout!

This sounds so much like Grade 2, a young band from the Isle of White who have had a lot of help and support from Rancid. They're signed to Rancids label and have toured with their. This actually sounds like Rancid have taken some influence from them and thats awesome. If you like this, have a listen to Grade 2, this is very much their sound.

I find it hard to explain how much I love Rancid. You have to check out Matt Freeman on bass on a few tracks - Maxwell Murder perhaps. PS I don’t think they would beat you up, more likely invite you to play on a track with Tim ❤

Rancid have often been compared to The Clash and Tim’s response “I'm dancing now to a whole different drummer and I'll keep listening to the great Joe Strummer.” Their other influences, especially on Lars side, include Cock Sparrer and on their twenty years down tour, which was absolutely amazing, they joint headlined with Cock Sparrer who were on their forty years down tour.
