Tim was my hero as a teen. The older you get the more you see we are all just people who go through shit. Some good some bad. No one is above the next. Tim and punk music helped me with that lesson. Rancid was also the first punk band I ever heard. I was raised on a tiny reservation and we didnt have any access to outside culture. I was 13 and had left the reservation for foster care. A punk girl sent me a song by rancid and it changed my life.

Thank you for this. I grew up with Tim in Albany. We played in many pre Basic Radio/Op Ivy bands together. Our first gig was at the Albany High School talent show in 1983 as Ratt Patrol with Tim's brother Greg on drums. We then continued with a bunch of ska bands like The Unkool and Urban Noise. The East Bay had many all age clubs in those days, and there was great music everywhere. It fills my heart with joy to see Tim and Matt still creating such great music.

I was working at Pyramid Brewery on Gilman about 20 years ago. Four people in their 60s, maybe, sat in my section and told me their son used to play across the streeet (Gilman). The lady turned to me and asked me, “do y(ou know our son?” I asked, “who is your son?”, and she said, “Tim Armstrong”. I said, “I do not know your son personally, but I know who he is.” Very nice people,I thought it was weird that they would think I knew their son. Tim, your parents are very nice people. I hope you have a great relationship with them.

Same here. I had enough money to buy a cd while I was visiting my dad. I think I may have heard one rancid song before. I remember looking at the album cover for the first time in the music shop. I remember thinking, "Rancid... such a Badass band name" I had to pick between rancid 2000 and out come the wolves. I loved the name of the album. Boy, am I glad I picked that gem up. I listened to it on repeat that whole trip. It never gets old and was my window into one of the best genres of music.

I met Matt and Tim at the Loft in Austin Texas in 88 at an Op Ivy show there. Tim was bald and I had a double fin charge bright red. These " grunge " kids were making fun of the " big haired" people and being rude,which would've resulted in a brawl,if Tim hadn't stopoed the damn song and set the bullys straight. I thanked him and hung out had sone beers and on my way. 2 years later i see Tim with a bright red hawk on Mtv. I like to think that I was part of the transition of Tim to full on punk,but i really know it was a combination of events just like that which molded these guts into a respected punk band worldwide. These dudes are stand up guys.

I ran into Tim in Vancouver BC at one of the early days of the Warped Tour. I was just a little twerp at the time but I was a pretty big fan of Rancid and Op Ivy so when I saw Tim taking a picture with a fan i was stoked cause I had a couple of those disposable cameras that kids today dont even remember.... Anyway, I walked up and asked if we could take a picture together and he said the funniest thing.... Out Comes The Wolves defined a summer for me. I was actually 33. I had been into punk since I was about 19 but I always saw Rancid as being kind of poserish. But as I got older I didn't think that way any longer. I had lost my punk roots due to a bad heroin habit. But here I was at 33, quiting dope and going back to alcohol. I was hanging out with a couple of guys tems years my junior. AJ, my friend, he was about as punk as they come. I was charging my hair again and having sex again. It was a great summer. I met my love I'm still with. I hear these songs and I'm there again.. AJ is gone now, victim of heroin overdose. Well punk has been highjacked by the new left, this authoritarian racist bastard child of what I knew as a young man when I was a leftist. Yea, no reason to be punk any longer..
