Mark knows how to use space and time so subtle is a part of that for sure. He leaves room and implies things by how he plays. Leaves room for the listener.

I been loving this tune, and this "side" since 1986. It was my first CD and sounded so good! I think you'll enjoy the rest of Brothers In Arms.

There are certain things that can set off one of your senses which triggers a powerful memory ... this entire album triggers me back to my early 20's and my time at University. This album and songs like this one would just allow me to relax from all the pressures of school and life in general. What a gift to the world !

You've finally reached my favourite song on the album. The groove, rhythm, bass, guitar solo in the middle and the guitar riffs at the long ending, the multiple instruments, all make this a great song. Others have commented they don't like his voice, but I think for this song it suits well.

It's lovely to check this album out after many years. Not a single unmemorable or badly written/performed track on the entire thing. "Right become a wrong/and left become the right" is a great line.

I think when Alan Clark joined the band it made a massive difference to the sound of dire straits. The album “love over gold “features the track “telegraph road “and for me he and the drummer Terry Williams steal the track. Especially live on the Alchemy tour

It was Pick Withers playing on the album version of Telegraph Road, he left AFTER recording "Love over gold"

That LP meant a LOT back then, it still does. MK was the coolest guy in 80's, he still is ❤

My favorite track on the album. The atmosphere is so well crafted. I dont like some of the distorted fills on other songs but they work well on this one.

Apparently Mark Knopfler refused to let Chris Rea join the band, because he wanted to call it Dire Rea 😅😅

This song got a lot of airplay from the FM radio stations that featured 'deep cuts'. It's one of my faves off the album. Everything just feels nicely balanced and where it ought to be. Yeah, the pan flute is super 80's, but it's not offensive.

The arrangement syncs with the lyrics really well. Maybe it's all the recent prog., but I wish this would have twisted and turned a bit more. Thought I'd check to see if Mark was an influence on Matteo Mancuso, but apparently not. However, both are finger lick'n good....Doh!
