Just remember that one of the big problems for Megamind in the first movie is that he's literally struggling to cope with the fact that his fight with Metroman and as a villain is finished and he doesn't have any idea what to do next. Until one of his mishaps accidentally created a worse supervillain, giving him a chance to correct his mistake and becoming a superhero. Kinda mirroring how most movies usually have one story. Specifically because the creators often have no idea how to extend it after it's finished and would either better leave it there as it is, or if there's luck, continuing the story with a fresh idea and great execution of said idea.
