I bought this back in April and I think it is a great value homage watch. The case fits fine and I like the drilled lugs. To be honest lack of anti reflection coating have never been an issue for me, not in any watch. I would have liked maybe a little less taper on the bracelet and smaller "adventure" printing. I was a bit worried about the shiny Steinhart logo but it turns out I really like it. Overall I think the design looks good. I will probably never buy an original Explorer but if I'm going for an homage I want it to be of respectable quality and good value. This is the first Explorer homage watch that really made me want it. I think Steinhart offers well made watches with great value for money.

Hi Jody, yeah I know what you mean about the case, it’s definitely a Steinhart thing. I bought one when they first came out and have worn it a fair bit since then also comparing it with my black OP39. You just have to treat the Steinhart as a different animal as far as comfort goes.. it’s not uncomfortable in fact it wears pretty well on my 7.5 inch wrist but it’s never going to have that ergonomic organic feel of the Rollux (I refuse to use the proper name). I bought mine for a daily beater that had some Explorer vibes, had some quality but I could afford to scratch up a little so it works for me. The thing is, I don’t think Steinhart are trying to compete with the Chinese ‘homage’ manufacturers head to head, I think they’re game is to play their own game a little and perhaps they think they are taking the moral high ground on ‘copying’ a bit more. A Steinhart has more cred’ than a San Martin for instance and I think they know that and this is the way they preserve it. Anyway, love your work and really happy to see a review of a watch I own today so thanks.. please keep it going. I guess you’re also looking forward to Obi Wan landing soon.. MTFBWY.

Presumptions aplenty about fit. Wrists have knuckles. A deeper caseback raises the lugs above the knuckle, circumventing the knuckle. Female endlinks then allow for a more adaptable bracelet fit. If, like Jody, you wear watches well above the knuckle, then no problems. But many (majority??) don't.

While my comparison has to be based on a vastly smaller number of other watches than Jody's, I will say that the Steinhart case wears noticeably different. It's nothing I'd call annoying or uncomfortable, but when you wear even the 39 O1s for a few days and then put on something more contoured, you notice that the Steinhart case calls for a lot more attention on your wrist. For example: Even my CW C63 in 39mm and on its steel bracelet (which *looks* a lot larger on wrist than a Steinhart 39 diver) feels almost like I'm wearing a regular Swatch in direct comparison. What really astounded me was when I put on a buddy's 1990s Submariner which felt like it was made of paper in direct comparison. Sure... that was also down to the much flimsier and lighter bracelet on the Rolex (God, these things were pretty terrible back then), but I would bet it has even more to do with the fact that the Rolex is much more contoured to your wrist than the Steinhart - which more or less just sits on top of it. And yes: AFAIK all those O1-models use the same basic case with small deviations depending on the model. Some of the more "premium" ones have chamfered lugs for example. But then again: Rolex use the basic Oyster design on a large variety of watches themselves. They aren't shy about the fact and fans of the brand don't seem to mind. I'm guessing the "parts-bin" approach Steinhart use when creating new models is probably one of the reasons why they can manage to offer these things at a relatively low price.
@calvinchann19962 жыл бұрын
I got the July 2022 production and have to say that I love the dial. The applied indices are beautiful. As a test for the day the Rolex deign to sell me the Explorer, I know that I can live with the dial as a daily wearer.

I just want to add another thing. Rolex Explorer has flat crystal while Adventure classic has a domed crystal. And it's the most domed I have seen. I have had my eye on this one for a while. I think that I will grab one at some point to consolidate my collection a little. Looking to reduce to a 4-watch collection.

Hej Mats! Du är svensk gissar jag. Tack för din kommentar. Jag har bara en Steinhart så långt och det är en 39 blue ceramic. Fantastisk klocka och känns dyrare än den är. Denna nya Adventure classic är i min köplista.

Awesome review as always Jody! A really nice Explorer style watch from Steinhart. That Sellita Elabore grade movement is a great engine given the relatively modest price. I paid more than double that for the entry level SW200 in my Oris ProPilot for instance. The 39mm Explorer is my dream watch and I had it in the back of my mind that I’d try and somehow get one closer to the time to mark my 40th birthday in a few years but now the 39mm has been discontinued that ship has sailed 😔 Not that I could really afford (or rather, justify) spending that kind of money on a single watch and never mind the fact that Rolex would be unlikely to ever sell the likes of me a stainless steel sports model 😂 This Ocean 39 Adventure reminds me a bit of a Tisell Explorer homage I have. It is such a nice watch and looks slightly closer to its inspiration than the Steinhart but when you look closer there are quite a few differences which start to really stick out. The dial, bracelet and clasp are very close to the real deal but the lugs and case shape are slightly different and those differences got more obvious and noticeable the longer I had the watch which felt a bit “uncanny valley” 😂

you nailed it. All Steinhart Ocean watches come in the same case shape by size - 42mm or 39mm. That is one thing that bothers me about Stainhart and I have 7 or 8 of their watches!

Good call. Case profile is a big deal, yet not given much attention, besides thickness and lug angle. Flat, slab sides is are a total no go.

To be honest I like the boxier case of Steinhart more than on Rolex. And it has more prominent indexes too which I really love on this watch. Second hand is also ok for me. Sometimes I think that Steinhart fixes the details I don't like on Rolex. :D With Ocean One too.

If I can’t pay a Rolex, I would look for a more reasonable price for an homage like a San Martín or so…..

I have a serious problem with a 500 dollar homage. You can get an excellent Tissot swiss made watch or a fantastic Seiko with original design abd great build quality for less.

times of SARB033 are already the long past, mate... look at the price of new alpinist (e.g. SPB159J1) or tissot PRS powermatic 80 on bracelet... at our ADs almost $800... that's real

Just bought a Tisell 9015 Explorer about 3 days before Steinhart released this one. Although it's not Swiss made I think its mildly better.
@jonasjung2562 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’d love to see a comparison between the two. Had the Tisell on my shortlist, and I’m not seeing enough of a difference between this Steinhart and the Tisell to justify the extra cost.

The branding "Steinhart" below the logo bothers me quite a bit. At least on camera it doesn't look good to me at all. It's like a glossy sticker. Also the word adventure is a bit too big. The San Martin sn021 is more refined and better finished in my opinion. It's also cheaper. I like Steinhart though, I used to have an ocean 2 and while it had its own flaws I remember enjoying it a lot. Thanks for the video Jody 👍🏻

The logo and Steinhart text are applied metal (or at least metallic) and for me, I actually like the contrast with the rest of the text.

All I can say is, “I really want one”! In terms of sharing some parts like clasps across models, I don’t care - “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”! I don’t often comment, but have watched your highly enjoyable videos for several years. Thank you, as always for a fantastic review Jody.

I got mine today. Excellent watch. But I agree about the reflections. The anti reflective coating could has been better. But the markers and hands reflect very good as well so it does not destroy the reading of the time.

I have 2 Steinharts🎉 Both eta 2824-2 Flieger 44 mm B Type Ocean forty-four ceramic diver One is 8 sec acurate One is 12 sec Love them both. Bought them second hand. Both older than 4 or 5 years. Working perfect and i paid 500 euros for both. Unscratched and with their boxes. Although i own several vintage poljot, sturmanskie sputnik, casio, seiko 5s, and a panerai I still love the feel and looks of my steinharts🥰 Unbeatable experience for the paid price. I will for sure buy steinhart no 3 watch. Maybe a different flieger watch with a transparent back case🥰🍀

Great watches, I have bought four Steinharts in the past, and still own two. I only tend to buy homages if they are of older discontinued models. In my reviews I have also criticised them for the flat cases That said, like all their watches, great value for money. Thanks for the review.

Just need a designer.... To have a line that isn't homages in addition.... And a on the fly micro assignment clasp. Doesn't Chronos have a good one of these? Much cheaper even with a Selita option.... I really wish steinhart did more non homage watches.

@23727bgk2 жыл бұрын
Jody, you are absolutely spot on about the case shape and how the watch sits on some of our wrists. At the moment I'm wearing a fantastic Heimdallr that is a Seiko diver homage. I believe the case back does not protrude beyond the curved lug ends. This combined with a high quality jubilee bracelet makes the watch extremely comfortable.
