Thank you to both Mr X and to Konrad for the loan of their respective watches. It is a shame that this Frog is an early model, because the bezel is dreadful. Still, not a bad looking watch for $200, especially in titanium. The Tudor though is next level! Cheers, Jody

I have both Frog and Tudor. A recent Frog, version 4, and a 22 FXD. I would judge the current bezel on the Frog, as good, click wise and tightness, as the Tudor. I was pleasantly surprised. Only downside that I can see/feel with the Frog is the NH35 (although I have a NH35 running well inside COSC chrono standards currently). Even with the 4 clicks to 5 second on the bezel the Frog version works perfectly on V4. You should REALLY do an updated video to be more accurate in your review. FWIW a good many FDX owners are buying the Frog straps as the quality is now much better than what you have shown and described as well. That and the fact that the Tudor Velcro is known for failures today and are being replaced on warranty. Frog's version is good enough to easily compete. If Frog would stick a better movement (ETA 2824 or sim.) in their version, Tudor would without a doubt, lose a good bit of sales on the FXD. Lume? The Frog lume easily lasts 8 hrs. and is excellent. Certainly not substandard to any current watch and a good bit better than some. I highly recommend the current Tactical Frog. It can generally be had for $160+/- US delivered. The Tudor FXD is $4150 currently @ msrp.

I have the black Frog FX. Really prefer those big indices over the originals (remind me of Helm). Very happy with the purchase and a perfect travel watch (impossible to lose -no springbars-, no chance of rust forming and no polished parts to scratch up). And i actually love the frog logo and brand name.

I bought the Tactical Frog Titanium last month for $163 without knowing it was based on a Tudor design or had a dodgy bezel. Thankfully, I got the v2 model cause the bezel on mine has none of the issues Jody pointed out. But I'd still be happy with if it did cause a titanium watch that looks this good (thank you Tudor) for $163 shipped is a steal.

I have two Frogs in V2 and both of mine are great. The bezel action has been improved, but like many of my titanium trinkets like Phoibos and some others. The sound and feel on the bezel is not the same as stainless steel. The lume is very good and has longevity compared to my SEIKO and ZELOS stuff. I can't say for sure without owning V1, but the straps might have been upgraded because they don't look as ragged and the trinket fits flush on my wrist and actually nice. I have an abundance of straps to change and always swap them for different looks. My favorite Tudor is the Black Bay Pro GMT. I'm not a fan of ROLEX, but that one I would consider. The one Rolex I pined for was the MILGAUSS Z-blue, but unless the prices come back to earth that ship has sailed. My OMEGA Railmaster has filled that hole nicely and because everything is brushed on the case and bracelet that is a plus for me.

I understand why people are against copy watches. I also get that most working people with families just can’t fit expensive watches into their budget. This watch doesn’t bother me at all because it clearly says “Tactical Frog” and isn’t blatantly trying to pass itself off as a real Tudor. However, what else I like is that the Tactical Frog is available in other colors, while the Tudor is not. So, buying a Tactical Frog in black or green would make it look even more different, and then it would just feel like a fun watch to wear around, and no worries about people thinking you’re trying to fool anyone. I don’t love the blue anyway, so black or green seem like solid options.

This was my first thought as well, and a huge point. With blue, the 'clomage' effect is fairly strong. In any other color, I think you're trying harder to just want the watch vs trying to have something it's not, if that makes sense.

@@K1ngfunK, I agree 100%. I think the days are here when buying a name brand is not necessarily proportional to a difference in quality. I’m not saying that the Tudor isn’t better. My question is simple: is the difference in quality commiserate with the difference in price? For me, I can’t say it is in this instance. I’m a big fan of the Pelagos. I own the original. And I’m really fascinated by this edition - I think it’s really cool - but I can’t justify buying another Pelagos, especially with a lesser depth rating. So, this Tactical Frog looks like a great “everyday” watch with a very reliable movement. Plus, the alternative green/black colors are even more in keeping with the “commando” theme of the original watch.

There is also a Seiko Solar Quartz Chrono version now in 2 colorways. I prefer solar/quarts watches so that is the watch that caught my eye and got me looking at the Tactical Frogs and eventually the similar Tudor. I am no expert at finding European watches but I can't find a Solar or Quartz Tudor Pelagos FXD at all, so I feel like you that Tactical Frog is making a lot more out of the idea of a fixed lug titanium watch than just a homage to the blue Tudor model.

After some bedding in the V4 bezel is decent, clicky, tho a tad light but from what i can tell from watching other reviews is much improved. The bb springs can be shimmed to stiffen up the bezel action and make the clicks more audiable. It a cracking watch for money, so much so iv ordered another one in blue.

Great comparative review Jodie! I’ve got the V2 frog & a blue Pelagos. The frog wears more easily as a daily work ‘n wet watch here in the tropics, because if it’s smaller size and thickness. Bezel is functional Ti on Ti sound; my mates in the US are modding the bezel with a little ball bearing for better click/rotate action. The strap gets wet, so I use a single pass seatbelt / modded Mankey strap for comfort & might invest in a single pass FKM for water work. Luminescence is fantastic with it still glowing to read the time by 4 to 5 am! Really happy with this frog, which rotates with the Draken Kruger Ti chrono as daily wears.

I like that frog. I live the fixed lugs/bars and I always wear a zulu strap. It would be perfect for me. the springbars are the weak point of a tool watch but this one doesn't have this issue and it looks the part as a tough tool watch aswell. That bezel is indeed different from the click spring ones.

@@Plexcom60 it takes a 28.5mm dial with nh35. There is a bunch of dials and hands to choose from on aliexpress. Not to mention the other modding sites online. The problem comes in where this is a version 1 case so the bezel action is going to be sloppy. There is a way to fix it but you have to pop the bezel off and access the click spring.

You should really look at V3 of the Tactical Frog Sub300T homage… bunch of upgrades on it. It’s even a little less of a direct copy. The bezel is now a simple dive bezel, not a (flawed) no decompression bezel. With the applied indices, the domed crystal and the different case profile, it’s more of a true homage than a copy, imho.

Ive been wearing this watch now for 3 months and I really like it. Lum is great and its very light on the wrist. I thought the velcro strap would be cheap BUT ITS NOT. Very heavy duty and only has so minor fraying on the end (I put lighter to few fuzzy ends and that took care of that). Otherwise the velco is good quality and has held up to daily use without weakening. Movement is to be expected and no surprises. It turned into my EDC watch.

I got the TTFFX, as I call it, in black during the last sale and saved about $25. I find the dial on the black one to be great looking. I must have V2 because my bezel does fell crappy but it's not too bad. Making a bezel out of titanium AND bi-directional is always going to make it feel different. The watch gets a lot of wrist time because it is so light and comfortable on my 7.5 inch wrist. I sometimes use a one pass thin leather nato and the watch almost disappears. I think the Tudor might be sold out. I'm seeing them on the gray market for 5 grand US.

I am a sucker for frogs, and thus bought a 62 Mas homage from Tactical Frog. It has a gorgeous green dial and it wears nice. I'd buy that watch again at the price. This look for $200 would be a pass for me. I don't love this style and shake my head at it being made into an homage. It was a fun compare to watch!

I just received the new version 4 of this watch today and I can confirm that the bezel action is still a mess! The action is absolutely horrible! I never owned the earlier versions to compare it to but the feel of this bezel is the worst of any watch I own. There's no crisp smooth clicks when you rotate the bezel. It's very rough and gritty and loose! I did only pay $151 US dollars for it though during the recent AliExpress sale so I will say the watch is worth it for the money.

Excellent video, I was waiting for a side by side comparison. As a big fan of the FXD, I think TF made a good work here, just some cons (at least 4 me). The blue color is way too dark, it should match the bezel! I miss the 1mm size in the case, for me it's way too much information for the size. Overall it's a very nice watch

Neither for me.. and i like blue watches. One is too expensive and the other is too cheap. Relatively speaking for what they are. And more importantly what they are not. Versatile. I agree a std Pelagos on a bracelet that you can swap out to a single pass nato or other strap would be my choice. Nice review as usual Mr M.

Hi Jody, I have been wanting to ask you a question for a while but wasn't sure on which video to post. So guess we're here. When you review your watches in all their shapes and forms and prices are you reviewing with an expectation that these watches are keepers or throw away watches. I want a cadisen 8185 roman dial. I'm nervous about recieving one with wonky numerals. My OCD wont be able to cope. I love keeper watches regardless of price one of my faves cost me 1 euro 50. however, is the implication, it doesnt matter if it breaks cause you buy a new one, or looked after are they long term keepers. I hope that kinda makes sense. the 8185 has a miyoto work horse and if its nice why wouldnt I have it for years.. am I right?? thank you. keep up the great content and presentation style.

Tudor has a cleaner dial, nicer fonts and colors. I think the minute hand is sized better on the frog though, and I'd probably prefer the smaller case (the width, not that height). Wish the logo would light up though.

You're definitely right on the FXD likely not being a first luxury watch purchase. I'm considering the Pelagos, BB GMT, and some other watches (different brands) for purchase for my big birthday later this year. I love the full marks on the FXD bezel and the shade of blue is perfect, but just really want a bracelet. If I already had a Black Bay or something else on bracelet already, I might consider the FXD as my next luxury diver purchase. Interestingly, the one AD I talked to locally said they get roughly 1 Pelagos per quarter, and at least my sales guy said he hadn't seen an FXD in yet. That was a bit surprising. There is at least one other AD locally, but they had even fewer Tudors left in their display. It's becoming Rolex like!

There is a rumor that the FXD is expected to have a short production run as it was never expected to be so well received. Most of the AD's I visited throughout the world only have received 1-2 FXD's since launch. If you're interested in a Tudor that is not an FXD, BBPro, or P39, visit South Korea! Their display cases are full of every other model!

I ordered the blue frog from Ali about 10 days ago and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I am concerned that the blue dial does not seem to be the same exact blue as the bezel as per your excellent review. I am also planning to get a thinner single pass nato strap for it to reduce its height on wrist. I have watched 2 other reviews and they both tout the excellent lume so I hope they are correct since you don't seem TOO impressed by the lume compared to Tudor.

My first "luxury" watch was a Tudor and I love it. It is certainly not a Rolex but my black bay does the job I wanted it to do. Since then I have acquired several luxury watches and a homage to accompany them. Most of them are from Pagani and one San Martin. It's become an addiction. I am buying a watch or two per month and the wife is not pleased. :(

Go for the old King Seiko-Models before they are completely Sold out. The 56ks-Series Contains a grand seiko automatic movement and you can Pick one up for around 500 dollars

Homage watches sure does give the feel of the watch... But this Tudor is really a beautiful watch and the bule looks too good! If i had this i would wear it on any sunny swimming day! Thanks Jody for the vid!
