I never rode the -200 Combi with Alaska into Adak, although I did other places like King Salmon and Cold Bay. My Alaska trips to Adak were all in the -400 Combi, and they were just the last few years that I lived there. Prior to that Reeve Aleutian Airways, in the 727-100 (like Tilly) or the L188 Electra (44Charlie or 78Romeo) were the only tickets in town, unless you were chartering Pen Air in the Metro out of Anchorage or 700RD out of Dutch, or maybe ACE Air's 1900C out of Anchorage. God, I miss those days ... they were so spectacular! It was nice to hear Phoolu's voice asking about the braking action on 36, I wish that I could still say hi to Bob, Paul, Ann, and Jeff or have one last night at the cabin out towards Finger Bay. If you know you know ...

Let us not forget Wien AIr Alaska who flew the 737-200s and 727-200s (some were combis). The company started in 1927 by Noel Wien; Alaska Airlines had its start in 1932. Unfortunately, a corporate raider cashed Wien out for $20 million in 1984 and put 1,500 employees out of work and destroyed a legacy Alaskan carrier in the process. Too bad Alaska Airlines did not buy Wien - I would still have a job. I was a flight attendant for Wien, Reeve, and Alaska. The best pilots on the planet IMO. (Adak has always been a challenge - but then so was Sheyma - and the rest of Alaska for that matter.)

Brought back memories. Found my old BEQ, the Movie Theater, the Craft Center, the spot where 'someone' ran the brand new Airport Fire Truck into a ditch. Did not see the road to my old Naval Facility (bummer, was probably on the wrong side of the plane) but did see the pier where 'Fat Freddie' lost his hold of the ships leaving port - they had to pay him something to eat and the otter would let them back out and leave....I heard the Base Vet spent several hours trying to save his life.
@deannaervien2481
@deannaervien2481 2 жыл бұрын
There wasn't a vet on Adak the 3 years we lived there. We had to take my siamese kitty and her broken leg to the newly built hospital down by the runway. After they fixed her up we took her to the airport terminal and Captain Bolt was the first one to sign her cast. My father was a seismologist. Studied earthquakes. We lived in the only building directly across from hthe combined high school/ grade school, and UT was also the only piece of land NOT controlled by the navy. One time I was sitting in the living room reading a book and a big old navy shuttle bus came down the incline from the road v and crashed into our living room right smack at the window. Buckled the building and scared the shit out of me. My mom and dad said my scream was the most bloodcurling sound they ever heard. I had just closed the very thick curtains. I guess the driver heard me too. I don't remember screaming. Kathy Adak Alaska July 1968 to July 1971.

This looks like one wild ride.Many airlines here in Canada rely on these frames. They are the only type that can land on gravel or ice strips in the high arctic. No gravel kit nor deflectors on the nacelles on that one. GREAT tough aircraft made for pilots.....REAL pilots.

Flew this flight from Anchorage to Adak on the way to Shemya. Shemya was socked in though so the flight had to turn around and go back to Anchorage. Lots of homes and buildings all not used .. one guy cooked for us in his home.. only hot meal unless you live there .. had an old McDonald’s there long ago closed.. still as strange as it was it was a rare treat .. it’s cold and windy , and our little c-12 sure did bounce around on approach .. good times 👍🏼

The description says Alaska flew 737-200s for around 25 years but that would mean they started in around 1982. That doesn't seem right the 737-200 was introduced in 1968. So Alaska had to have been flying them starting in the early to mid 1970s. This would mean they've been flying it for 30 to 35 years.

@hellfire8883
@hellfire8883 5 жыл бұрын
gaming Sure you can send it if you wish. I guess it does make sense if it was 1981. All of the bigger airlines would receive them first. Alaska is obviously a bit smaller and would receive them later on possibly second hand. Or just at a much later manufacturing date. The last 200 series 737 delivered new was in 1988.
