Why I'm No Longer a Fan of the Babylon Bee

The guys at Babylon Bee recently had a nearly two-hour in-person interview with Elon Musk. Toward the end, they brought up Jesus with him and failed miserably. Elon was asking questions about Jesus, questions which they never answered. Elon clearly is not a Christian and does not understand the Gospel yet these men who call themselves a “Christian ministry” did not care enough about his soul to give him the Good News. They intentionally left him in darkness. This was an absolute tragedy and inexcusable. I will no longer support the Babylon Bee or share their material in any way.

OK, so here is my take on Elon Musk allegedly converting/repenting for Christianity... Musk is on a 'Christian' satire show on a Sunday, which is almost sort of a spoof and very doofy. Now, there is serious contemplation that has to be in place when it comes to such things of a spiritual nature because the Bible states that one's eternal soul rests upon a decision to accept or reject Christ as saviour and fully repent for the afterlife, Hell or Heaven regardless. Elon equivocated for a more pantheistic belief around deity and never actually swore to repent from sins on the show. Elon seemed more superficially to accept Christ philosophically but not with a renewed mindset in thought, or with due regard and understanding towards fundamental lifestyle changes necessary for Christian living. There was no sobering commitment, premise or contemplation as to true repentance in my opinion, (not even a preliminary touch upon anything that might be contrary to the pursuit of Godly holiness). There just seemed to be a chalk up of some 'acceptance', half negotiated by Elon and some sort of off the cuff, bemusing philosophical acceptance of bits of Christ centred teaching on the show. I have not seen the whole show but will watch it today and come back with any further comments. Time will always tell though if someone has true change and full fruits/deeds of Repentance in speech, lifestyle, indulgences, Christian walk, advocacy and conduct, even though they might still not be perfect in all things. The other thing though is Elon Musk is technically a Transhumanism, via his soon to be launched Neuralink, Brain Computer Interface. Musk has now stated that the trials on humans should commence in 2022. Elon has also said that "in dealing with AI, it is like summoning a demon... You know how that ends" . The short term objective for Neuralink is solving brain/spine injuries Musk has stated but the long term goal for this product is to achieve AI symbiosis. AI technically would be considered another 'consciousness' and autonomous, even if based off initial human programming and will certainly be beyond just basic AI algorithms the further into the future we go. Scripturally, having another form of intuition, consciousness or intelligence within your body that you are interconnected with would almost certainly render you spiritually at odds with God for salvation, as scripture states we are vessels for God's Holy Spirit. Elon I believe would have renounce the long term goal of Neuralink at least... Secondly, the Bible also states mankind of course will one day have some form of mark/implement in the hand or head, without which no man can buy or sell, but the receipt of such a mark would see someone eternally cut off from any form of redemption, Revelation 13 v 16-17, and Revelation ch 14. So, it remains to be seen what happens with Elon, alongside Neuralink but I for one will certainly be watching and praying and urging people towards true Gospel acceptance/repentance. You cannot serve two masters.

This disaster made me actually cry. Elon was legit asking “Christians” the most basic of questions and you could tell he was craving legit answers, and mind you, they were questions a baby Christian could answer with basic Scripture. I’ve never seen such a incredibly botched opportunity to plant a seed for the Lord to water. I will be praying my soul out that Elon receives another opportunity for his questions to be answered. Babylon Bee, maybe put the Gospel above the enamoring of speaking to someone so famous. You did not sound harsh Mr Peters. The judgment that will come from the Lord will be much harsher.

Excellent thoughts, thanks for boldly sharing. Reminds me of something Conrad Murrell once shared on this topic: We cannot preach, teach, or witness in a light, humorous spirit. I well know this statement is constantly denied. The opposite is practiced. One of the curses upon preaching today is the light, witty, cute way in which it is presented. It delights its audiences but produces no serious results. No matter how severe the truth you present, if you say it in a light and funny manner no one will take you seriously. This tone also insinuates itself into modern books which take up the most sacred and portentous of spiritual truths and handle them in such a frivolous, slap-happy manner that robs them of any meaning. When a person, sinner or saint, wants to get down to business with God, when his soul becomes disturbed and shaken to its foundations, he will not seek out a "Christian clown" to counsel. You may have gained his friendship as a jolly Joe, but you will not be the one he calls on in that hour. He will seek out a holy man whose life testifies that his heart and mind are informed and sensitive to sober issues of life, death and eternity.

Some truth there, for sure, but I wouldn't discount all " light and humorous manner" s. There are unsaved our there from every background and bad experience with a Christian or church, and even in these contemporary times, it's not so very rare for those experiences to have been with Christians who were - or who seemed to be - unable to be light hearted, humorous or etc. . So, I disagree and would say that it depends on each person, the whole context of the Christian one's life and witness and on the relationship, on God's leading and the context of the situation, and the words used ( if Godly enough, and not inappropriate ). God shows us over and over in the Bible that when we try to draw a hard line or make a method" out to be a one size fits all, we end up being wrong. I do get what you're saying, and, again, there's definitely truth there ( imo - this is all just my opinion ! ) but I think I have some truth here too, to mix in an prayerfully balance/integrate with.

He probably walked away thinking "Christians" are clowns and the Gospel is a joke. May the Holy Spirit still work on his heart and draw him to Christ Jesus.

This reminds me of apostle Paul on his road to Damascus, He had an encounter with Jesus Christ. He was made blind to recognize authority and later to be healed and be taught about Christ by Ananias . Can you believe if Ananias behaved the way these men behaved? that man was poor in spirit and came to get answers about Christ the only thing these men could do is giggle about nothing. It's a shame really that people have the platform to evangelise about Christ and have decided to put the light lamp under the bed. we should pray for the guys at BB and for ourselves for the Holy Spirit to give us Godly fear and holiness in our lives so when the opportunities do come, we will bring glory to the LORD through evangelization. Another thing we can do is send emails to BB in truth and grace, explaining to them how serious their mistake was and how they should act going forward. Let this be a teachable moment of what NOT to do when we're in conversation with those who don't believe or have questions. There were so many opportunities for 1 out of the 3 men to make a serious attempt at sharing the gospel. I felt like I was looking at three unpopular kids at school who got invited by the "cool kid" to sit down at the lunch table with him. Just another example of how we must be watchful of Christian platforms, too!

Justin, your righteous indignation at the woefully misguided and tragic "gospel message" provided to Elon Musk by the Babylon Bee interviewers, followed by one of the most moving and powerful true Gospel messages shared by yourself I have ever heard, left me in tears - tears of sorrow at the opportunity that was missed to share the true Gospel of Christ with Mr. Musk, and tears of joy to once again hear the Gospel message that saved a wretch like me. I am reminded of the apostle Paul's anger and bewilderment over the "false gospels" being preached to the believers in Galatia, and his astonishment that the Galatians were "so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ, and are turning to a different gospel, which is really no gospel at all." Gal. 1:6 (NIV-1984). Justin, thank you so much for posting this! It is a timely message that I plan to share it with others. "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace."

When I first saw this video and saw how serious Elon was and almost wistful he was in talking about God I was struck with how open he was and how seeds could be planted. I think they were satirizing the idea that one can be saved just by saying a little prayer, as if just saying magic words gets you into heaven without a true conversion of heart and commitment to obedience. I agree though that the delivery was in bad taste and failed to truly represent Christ and the seriousness of what's at stake in the desicion they presented to him.

He grew up in Pretoria, South Africa and went to Boys High. Bible stories were, (and still are) taught in most schools here. He also mentioned he went to Sunday school, which was also verry common in certain churches then. Sunday school (for the kids) would take place after the main worship service. You'd typically go to the church service with your parents and then to Sunday school afterwards. So, he probably knows the main bible stories and the basics of the gospel. I found the interview verry awkward and it's a shame the interviewees seem too awestruck to really engage on a deeper level.

In my case, the most common stories of Bible were taught to me as a child, but they were like separate stories without real connection. Only when I at the age of 21 heard a preacher explain what actually happened at the cross, what true repentance means, and that it's possible to experience a personal, dynamic relationship with our Father even before death, I feel like that's when something radically changed with my faith. I feel that's what Elon needs as well. The problem with infant baptism is that many people baptized that way are told they are already saved and there's nothing more you can do about it after that.

Hey neighbour! I was in AHMP 👋🏻😁 And I totally agree with you. They used to read from the Bible and pray every Monday and Friday. I think there’s a real problem with some of the reformed churches in SA though. I have 3 siblings and there are 2 adoptive girls who live with my parents. We were all baptized as well as did our confirmations there when we turned 18. Not one of my siblings is a Christian and neither are the girls. I was only born again in 2020 and I never heard the true gospel before then. Something else that I find strange is that they think infant baptism saves a child, but nowhere in the Bible does it say to baptize babies 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think they meant well, but they failed miserably. To me, it sounded like they were star-struck and as a result, they wanted to present the Gospel in a Hip manner. I too have learned this lesson, when we try to alter the delivery of the Gospel to fit the person hearing we often fail. Because this means that we are not relying on the Holy Spirit to do the work of salvation. This seemed to me like it was something that that they had to check off their box, but nobody really wanted to do. For a minute there, it actually looked like they were ashamed of the Gospel. Let us pray for them, and I pray that they get another shot at this.

Watching this was heartbreaking because I have a personal experience where I was trying to witness & share the gospel with a friend & I totally choked. I’m an incredibly awkward person & I think the BB guys are too. I had a friend & she knew I was a Christian & I would share what I believed with her but I didn’t want to pressure her by being too serious & scare her away. I would tell her about the gospel but never fully shared with her in the right way. I would share a little clam up & think to myself the next time I see her I’m going all in. My friend was hit by a car & killed before that day came. It absolutely destroyed a part of my heart & forever changed me. Not a day goes by that I don’t weep & realize my total & utter failure. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about someone I loved going to hell because of my cowardice. Knowing I failed in the most massive way possible is a pain & grief there are not words to describe. While I understand clamming up, our feelings or comfort level mean nothing in comparison to someone’s soul & eternity. None of us are promised tomorrow, not even the next hour. Don’t put it off, don’t be a coward, if you believe what you claim then practice what preach, obey the command to share gospel. Look & really consider what Christ did for us. It is but for the grace of God we are saved, because we heard & believed the gospel that was shared with us. How could we not clamor & make the most of every opportunity to do all we can to share that glorious news that is the hope of life & salvation?!

He actually has a response to this train wreck of a situation with Babylon Bee. Watch that, but also watch as many of Ray’s videos as you can. The repetition is extremely helpful and he has so many different encounters with so many different types of people, it is really helpful. You never know how people will respond. That is God’s department. Be in the Word, and watch how Ray evangelizes. That will help you. It helps me!😀🙏🏻

As I sit here and read some of these comments, I can’t help but feel for all parties involved in this interview. First, I completely agree with you, Justin, with the missed opportunity of sharing the gospel to Elon Musk. However, my heart also goes out to the BB guys for not having the confidence to share the Gospel with Elon. I can still remember hearing the Gospel presented to me clearly for the first time in 2009 when Todd Friel created “The Biggest Question.” After that, I would listen to Ray Comfort’s, “The Way of the Master.” Now we have access to soooo much Gospel encounters through Living Waters Ministry. My prayer is that God will place someone in Elon’s life that will present the Gospel clearly to him. My other prayer is that someone will personally go alongside the BB guys and help them with their confidence to share the Gospel in a serious way, not making jokes of it. To have the platform they do and to not share the gospel for any reason has no excuse. The apostles were beaten and put in jail for their testimony. Many around the world suffer for their faith today. If they, who proclaim the truth, don’t, on their platform share the gospel theme what are they even doing? This video made my heart ache for the Babylon Bee dudes and for Elon Musk. It also reminded me of opportunities I've blown since becoming a Christian. I'm praying for Jesus to forgive me and to give me more boldness when witnessing to others. I can understand being nervous when dealing with a famous, worldly person and putting them on the spot in front of thousands of people. The Holy Spirit could have spoken through them if they had prayed earnestly in preparation of the interview. It could have been a glorious testimony of the power of Christ to the rest of the world if Elon had been given the opportunity to fully understand the Gospel and to believe on Jesus.. There is no greater love you can show another person than explaining the Gospel in a sincere, honest way. Fear of rejection in front of an audience pales in comparison to being ashamed before God on Judgement day. I pray that in some way a seed was planted and that Elon will have another chance to hear the gospel presented to him by someone who he respects and trusts and that he will be born again into the family of God. He needs to know that Jesus paid the ultimate price to give him the opportunity for eternal life with God. Elon needs to hear Mark 8:36- "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Thank you, Justin, for recording this video! It made me examine myself and pray for more boldness to witness in season and out of season for the Holy One who paid the ultimate price to give the most precious gift of all to anyone who will believe the Truth and act on it.

At first I was so disappointed and thought the interview spiritually speaking was so bad. But after watching that part again I realised I was too hard on them. They are satirists, not evangelists. That is why Elon likes their show, for the humour, so they're not normally interviewing people this way. Yes, they could have prepared a little better but not everyone has this gift to do apologetics and explain the points he raised which gave him doubts. It was still great that they asked this question and we got to see the discussion. There are lots of us praying for him and I took this as a SEED-PLANTING of faith, not a whole salvation moment. God can use obscure things to plant a spark or seed of interest, curiosity and truth into us and His Spirit follows it up. Elon's read the bible and my prayer is that it has stirred his mind to recall those and perhaps read them again. (It's a good reminder for us to have something to say in response to doubts people have. Even if it's just "I don't know all the answers"!!)

I watched the interview last week. It could have been great, but they were not qualified for a guest of his caliber. But then at then end, I was sad because Elon Musk was ready to listen and discuss the gospel. This interview left me wondering if any of those guys are actually Christians. Earlier in the interview, there were of number of incredible opportunities to compare Musk's world view to a Christian world view. They dropped the ball there too. I understand being nervous when you have such a high profile guest, but this really sad. Honestly, I love what Elon Musk is trying to do for the world, but more importantly, he needs to know Christ.

Exactly. Because what will it benefit Elon if he makes the whole world better, (which will unfortunately not happen), but loses his own soul.

...me too....l question all their Salvation. And they are laughing and mocking God. When he seemed serious....someone should have told him that Jesus is God....that we are all sinners and He paid the price....for all the wicked things we have done. I would have told him. He is not expressing Hate for God....he opened up himself. He said more about Jesus than they did. He wanted to know. They acted Soo foolishly. I'm ashamed of them. I pray someone gets to tell Elon Musk the truth. I watched this and felt sick....truly sick. These men need to be rebuked. True men of God would have turned this into a serious discussion. It's obvious they dropped the ball....if the Holy Spirit was Indwelling those men...they would of spoken. He wanted more than "well Thank you..." He wanted to know. 📜

Oh this was painful 😓. It’s terrible for not only Elon but for the many unbelievers who would have watched this episode because Musk was on it. What a huge missed opportunity 💔 Hearing him ask questions and get no answers…😵‍💫 BB has shot up in popularity so quickly that I think these boys have stars in their eyes. Praying they see their error.

@@lindaann1066 how would you know? Do you pray enough or or share the gospel enough or read the Bible enough? And what is enough exactly? We are saved by grace through faith in all that Christ has accomplished for us and not on what we do. Or Maybe you have a gift from God that can assume one’s walk with Christ by seeing their heart. You should share this with the whole church and let us all know if we are right with God. Am I luke warm too? Why?

Praise God for brother Justin Peters - unapologetic in speaking truth and defending Christ. This rebuke of Babylon Bee’s appalling attempt to share the gospel with Elon Musk was well warranted. I also no longer look at anything BB puts out. I am so grateful for how the Lord uses Justin Peters to expose lies and darkness. His ministry continues to bless my life.

After reading through more comments, it comes to realization, that we shouldn't be so hard on them. They probably didn't realize what they were getting into nor the need for a depth of preparation for this interview. And, as some other commenters mentioned, we should fellowship together more often and more productively and discuss ways on how to approach these situations when we get these great opportunities. Elon Musk is a very intimidating man- most certainly. His presence, alone, must be absolutely stunning, when face to face with him. Likely, also, he has a very commanding presence- absolutely- as there is a reason he is Elon Musk and among many talents, he's brilliant and smart and influential. Therefore, we must learn how to be armed against these weakening influences that may cause us to stumble in our professions of the Gospel.

I'm GLAD you reacted to that abominable video. I was shocked, not only at those clowns for making a joke out of the Gospel concerning someone's soul and salvation, but I was even more shocked at the "Christian's" who defended this mockery of the Word.
