I got A*AAB at a-level. Biggest advice: 1. Try and have high attendance. 2. Read around subject. 3. Look at course overview and tick off topics both in lesson and revision and this really is useful for breaking down the huge content. 4. Attend as many support sessions as you can. 5. Enjoy first year but be prepared to put in serious work after February year 2. Good luck

1. The first week go and talk to as much people that you can this is the perfect environment for it. 2. Be open to doing stuff outside your comfort zone, this will help you grow as a person. 3. Use your frees - - get on top of your homework and revision 4. Be prepared for teachers to go on about uni and don't get stressed about it. 5. Don't except a stars unless you seriously step up your game and grid more. 6. It's OK to change subjects, schools. 7. Stay on top of your revision resources this will help you with your end of year exams 8. Fuel your curiosity find out more about what interests you this will help you with your personal statement keep an academic journal 9. Don't stress about your personal statement 10. Enjoy yourself!! Make the most of your time!!

Meeting my tutor groups/having assembly on Wednesday, then a day off and then "starting lessons" on Friday which I think means go to the classroom, meet ur classmates, and then have ur teacher lecture u about everything from what ull be learning, making friends, sixth form life to homework and things that makes the teacher angry "but as long as we don't do it we'll be fine" 😂

Your experience in sixth form 100% depends on the subjects you take. I did sciences and maths and its very different to humanities or English. Also this will make revising for the final exams so much easier - keep on top of revision notes and flashcards (make and keep for each end of topic test etc) and review at each half term/holiday. If you're applying to university and there's something about the subject that you are super passionate about, do extra reading or research because it shows you care. Teachers at my school kept saying that extra reading can make the difference between grades and this is true for certain subjects but don't let it stress you out. No one has time to do EVERYTHING, it's all about balance

I completely agree with you about literally everything you said here! Xx

Seriously. I would say write up and organise your GCSE notes and make sure you go home and rewrite them but CONDENSING THEM. Don't leave it to April of Y11 because you will panic and spend more time writing your notes than actually properly revising them. If you're struggling with maths, get a tutor at the beginning of Y11 or even better, Y10 if you're lucky enough to have enough money for it.
@ceryscooper85976 жыл бұрын
Maddie coming from someone who got all 8s and 9s, honestly, just enjoy year 10. it's not a big deal. enjoy your lessons and just pay attention to what's being taught lol. you'll probably get an end of year exam - revise for that but not too intensely, it'll just help you to find a revision technique that works for you for next year. don't worry about revising until maybe december of year 11, and even then all i recommend is doing some flash cards / going over revision guides just to recap what you did in year 10. then when april / may comes along all you have to do is go over what you already know before the exams start. seriously - don't stress! prioritise your health, physically and mentally. heck, there were days when i knew i had a gcse exam the next day but i had to focus on my own health so went for a two hour bike ride to clear my head. there's nothing wrong with cramming by the way! even the most prepared students will find themselves revising one subject the day before the exam just so it's fresh in their heads for the next day. this might not work for everyone but did for me. good luck and enjoy high school while it lasts x

FAM I GOT U get a ring binder and lever arch file for each subject, keep ur work from the topic ur studying in the ringbinder so u can look back on it easily and revise etc, then condense and file all ur notes down into the lever arch file when u finish the topic. I keep a refill pad in a little plastic folder which i use instead of notebooks, cuz then u can file them in a folder with handouts etc. otherwise, just like a little pencil case with some pens and whateva u fancy (AND DEFO HIGHLIGHTERS), a pair of earphones and a usb cable to charge ur phone off the computers while ur working lol....worked pretty well for me last year (if u do certain subjects u might need specific stuff, the website for your courses should let u know tho)

1. Write down anything that's springs to mind. You can rearrange and sieve through later but you need to see it all in one place. Write about why you want to study that course, what you have done to show you like the subject (e.g. Books, podcasts, lecture etc) , extra curricular activities which show that you are a balanced student. Sometime on the uni course website they'll tell you what they look for in a student for that subject- use those words or refer to those attributes. 2. Your first draft will NOT be your final draft. I think I ended up doing about 20 drafts from the first ever word document I wrote. Th end results was completely different. Completely. Don't be afraid of this. You'll get into the swing of it. My first draft was so cringy it makes me feel sick 😂 3. You will go over the word limit. Yes yes I know, right now it's probably more 'how am I gonna reach it!' But trust me, everyone ends up going over. When that happens you can really get picky with what you put in and the result will be a clear and concise statement. 4. Be completely honest but obviously if you have done things emphasise that. Don't just write 'I read X book and enjoyed it'. Say like 'I read X book and the chapter on Y really inspired me because......and I would like to discover more around this subject at university.' 5. Be yourself! Don't someone else to write it. You need to put your own stamp on it. They're gonna want to see who you are and as they aren't going to meet you, unless it's an interview subject, you need to out yourself across. The best way of doing that is to write it yourself and then get advice, but keep things in your words.

would you say 3 subjects in year 12 is better or 4 subjects and dropping one at the end of the year?
@helenhamilton25446 жыл бұрын
Keep with 4 until you're sure- hahah catchy tagline Subjects that seem like the best bet at the beginning of the year may turn out to be your least favourite by the end. Give it enough time to know for definite. The content of the lessons changes and you go through the specification and you may not like it. Also it will get harder and you may find you're naturally better at the other subjects. I know people who dropped weeks before final exams
