My stepdad is the best steeler in the world. He's dying of cancer and the world will be less brighter when he goes. Your right, its not country without a steel guitar...

I love these old videos, the old greats like Tammy seemed more like real people just doing what they do best instead of the perfectly polished entertainment packages we see today. She doesn't need to have a perfectly choreographed dance routine , I just want to hear her beautiful voice!

allways remember this ,it all happen on a saturdaynight ( 20 september 75 ) i was very depressed and only sitting on a chair , suddenly they played this song , a skinny girl with long hair asked me for a dance and on the tunes of this song something happened , that girl stole my heart and now , 37 years later , were still together as man and woman .

I am an Englishman, I was 25 years old and working on a construction job in North London when I fist heard this great song....until then I had no patience for country music...Tammy brought it to me and I moved to the USA....what a darling! It became a smash hit in England...

it's a steel guitar the main instrument in country music, its it sometimes called the crying steel guitar and works so well with a sad country song, and without a steel guitar its not country music

I've still got 26 of her LPs, and seen her twice when she toured England, seen her at the Colston Hall in Bristol, and the Corn Exchange in Cambridge. One of the best female singers ever, beautiful clear voice and just brilliant. Joan Baez would be another of the best ever female singers, and of course Ella Fitzgerald, so technically perfect.

I remember when this song first hit the airwaves, and it is still as good today as it was then. Tammy, you were a one-off and there will never be another like you. Incidentally, I love the band in this video and was especially impressed with the guy playing the Tele. Is it a Fender Squier Vibe from the 50s by chance? Whatever, it is it sure sounded terrific.

Yes, it is a pedal steel guitar. The gentleman plaing is Sonny Curtis. Played for George Jones as part of the Jones boys for many years. He backed George as a solo act, then George and Tammy togther. When George and Tammy split up, he and the rest of the band went with Tammy.

Love you Tammy and your music and awesome voice but, wow, tough to realize that in the decade I was born, the popular notion was the wife had to stand by her man while he had good times and she had bad times. This is the decade when I proudly and unashamedly introduced my husband to fellow attendees of last night's Gary Allen concert in Silver Spring, MD.
