Standard, showtune, number 1 pop song...But then she OWNED ALL OF THAT AND used it as fuel to skyrocket all of her viewers to HEAVEN’S gate. The pure emotion and power that leaps though the video of the video of the live performance is BEYOND!!!! I always cry after this. No other singer can not sing a gospel song and make you feel church chills and goosebumps but Whitney, Aretha, Patti and Gladys! A-MA-ZING!!!! Incredible vocal prowess and versatility, delivered with sheer grace and class. I agree that her melisma, sheer power and amazing control were on point in a way that easily puts her ahead of other singers. I also rate her highly as performer of exceptional ability. She was simply blessed with all the qualities in a voice that is superior to other voices , past, present and to come!! I personally think she was that special. Whitney, you stood out from the pack in several ways, but go me, the one composite quality that most accurately describe your special talent is that you possessed the totainexplicahis, no one can deny when your grace, humility, stunning beauty, emotive ability and trend- setting fashions among other outstanding attributes, are added to your divine vocals. Whitney, let me say now that no one touches my soul musically, the way you do, mostly because you are so believable, which I know is due to the tremendous amount of emotional energy you include in your songs!! Miss you dearly and inexplicably, but in the same vain, will always love and cherish your unparalled, incomparable music, as well as you as one of mother earth' s most decent human beings!! No one does it better than Whitney. Love your reactions and commentaar to Whitney’s performances. In one of Ray Charles biographies hè is quoted as saying the definition of a great singer is the right balance between head, heart & throat. And Whitney clearly possesed them all in abundance and balance. None more so on display in this performance; head in the choices she makes vocally, placement, runs, heart in her emotive ability and invoking iT to the max here and then that glorious voice/throat clearly front and center werking so in sync with the orchestra. Pay attention to the rhythm of her placements and the lines tohether with the band, just marvelous. Like u Saïd overpowering even the orchestra strings included. Pffffff one of my all time favorites. This together with her ama medley should have gone on that live cd. But that is another discussion. Anywhoo, keep iT up! Good job!

The song Whitney sings in between "Lover Man (Oh Where You Can Be)" and "All The Man I Need" is "My Man (Mon Homme)." Both "Lover Man" and "My Man" are associated with the late great blues songbird, Billie Holiday. However, I'm not sure if Whitney is paying tribute to Billie Holiday or Diana Ross (who famously portrayed Billie in "Lady Sings The Blues" and often wore dolman sleeves, like Whitney is wearing in this video) with those opening songs.
@lovingmemories89025 жыл бұрын
vonb2009 I think she payed homage to Barbra Streisand with My Man. If you hear Barbra’s version in Funny Girl and the way she holds that long note on “...the world is bright...alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...” is a nod to Streisand.
