MIyth! I also used to believe this, for decades, and was devastated when my newly adopted cat wouldn’t touch any kind of wet food. But my vet luckily set me straight pointing to several long term studies that disprove this. The quality and make up of the food is key. Consistency is a matter of preference and doesn’t have an impact on long term health, hydration or anything like that. So as long as you opt for a high quality feed (preferably grain free imo) all is good in Catopia 😻
@Shiiwata10 ай бұрын
@@jsvensson8234bullshit. i talked to my vet about this myself, and he said i should even add extra water to the wet food. dry food is only okay if your cat actually drinks a lot of water on their own, but most cats don't. i would like to see those so-called "long term studies" you are talking about and if those were actually done by independent researchers.

@@jsvensson8234 Go to Jackson Galaxy's channel, he has an indepth series about food for cat, how the industrial dry pet food were made, and why dry food is so bad... even wet food if not carefully selected won't be nice for your kitty, regardless of their price point. IMO the best food one can give to their cats/dogs is the homemade one the owner make on their own, with fresh ingredients, no bullsnap fillers/preservative agents and knowing all the process of making them. and that would make it more flexible for owners to change the food to their pets' liking too
@tashatoddman749210 ай бұрын
Cats (small and large) are biologically desert animals who have very efficient kidneys due to their species being a carnivore/eat high protein diets and don't drink due to environment (which then causes the habit/lack of). The reason most house/domesticated cats end up dying because of kidney diseases is up to debate, but it's commonly agreed upon the theory that it's just due to the fact that they live so long with humans. Even tigers or lions in zoos/sanctuaries end up with kidney disease because they live on average longer than wild ones. The myth of needing wet food is due to the thinking that more water helps flush the kidneys more often and makes their work of filtering the blood easier, which "keeps" them working longer, but it really isn't confirmed by studies to be 100% true. It's similar in humans where our organs are bound to no longer work as well as before and shut down once you've been living for a long time. It obviously can't hurt to give them wet food but it is only truly beneficial if you know your cat doesn't drink much water. Dry food and treats is perfectly fine as long as your cat drinks enough water separately. I do agree about the high carbs aspect though as that is something to look out for in any food or treats. It's not only dry foods that have high carbs, so it's just important to look at the ingredient list of your pet's food. High quality food is all that matters, not wet or dry.

She’s so precious and you’re such a good cat dad! ❤ I leash trained my cat as a kitten (although he was a bit accustomed to it from the family i got him from), here’s a few tips i found helped: having the harness quite loose in the beginning and slowly tightening it everytime i was putting it on my cat. I also first started with only the piece that goes around the neck (the harness parts were detachable). Also playing while he was wearing it with his favorite toys, so he got the feeling that he could move while it was on. And yes, treats! Then putting on the leash and open the front door, only for him to explore the immediate outside of the door. He was so anxious at first he only sat in the doorway but slowly curiosity took the win. We had many wonderful adventures in the near woods of every place i lived at, he also had a kitty backpack he got in so i could take him to a safe place while living in an apartment. Also if a dog approached i’d quickly scoop him up in the backpack which i kept on my belly side. Once the initial training was done, he probably associated the harness with the outdoors and was always patient when i put it on him. I kept the bell on so that he couldn’t jump birds if i got distracted. I lost him last year to cancer, he lived to be twelve. I’ll always miss him and our outdoor walks. I wish you and gooey get to experince the same. Walking outside with your cat and seeing them interact with the world around them is one of those things that you’ll never forget.

Aw youre so lucky! I've tried teaching my 2 cats to fetch but they just run to the toy and guard it until i walk over. If its a ball on a flat surface my girl does at least hit it in my direction. From one unplanned first-time cat owner to another, you're doing awesome! Some advice for the spay (my girl had it done about 6 months ago): Both my girl and boy cat HATED the cone, and the longest I could get them to wear it was 10 minutes after trying for 2 hours. They ended up doing ok without it, but I recommend using that post-surgery vest/onesie instead. Could have her just get used to wearing it beforehand. I also kept her in a 2x3 foot cage while I wasn't around to prevent her from jumping, which was good because she ended up having a few pee accidents during the first couple days. Also, since they can't groom themselves, pet wipes are great to help clean them.

She is leash trained and travels happily in her carrier. I mostly trained her on a leash for when we travel. She is harnessed to her carrier so when we go camping she stays harnessed to her backpack while she watches me put up the tent. Once it’s up she leaps into the tent. I keep her harness on all the time so her tag is on her that gives whoever finds her the info to reunite us. She’s used to it. I only take it off to wash it if it gets soiled. My playful cat stayed playful as he agreed. She'll probably keep her playfulness, but a little lower energy as she ages Also the belt is needed for cats. Cats shoulders are different from dogs (that's how cats can fit into small spaces) so the belt helps to distribute the harness pressure when it's connected to the leash during walking. If you're going to be walking her with that outside and she suddenly makes a run for it, chasing after something and you don't have the belt part: either the collar part will slip off over her head or she'll dislocated her neck.

It's also great you got her used to different places, people and other fluffies, that makes life so much easier for you and for her. She is a lovely, confident little sweetie, and you are a great cat guardian. Once she grows bigger, you can get her a large cat tree and place it near a window, so she can enjoy _Cat TV,_ and also maybe think about some of those little runways and bridges you can mount on your walls. Vertical space really makes them feel comfortable and in control of their territory.

Great to take them out for a walk to a park and so they won’t be able to run away. I took my cat to the park all the time on a leash. Sadly after 10 years he passed away. Mine was a picky eater also. Rather than a leash and colour, it sometimes is better to have the larger harness, that has the fabrics around their body, so it does not pull on her neck. Heya mate. We, my ex and i, harness trained our similarily tiny cat a wee bit earlier. Actually, pretty early on, we we're lucky that she always saw her carrier box as a sort of safe space, wherever we took her. We actually "traveled" a lot between my home city hamburg and her parens home about 170km northeast. After about 3 trips this way, she clearly associated the harness as a sign for going to travel. As we mainly traveled by public transport and rail, she at times got bored in her cage. So, we had a 10 meter "rope" on her leash anyways, she was allowed to leave her carrier box when she wanted and we explored the train together .. or she just sat by the window, looking out. Usually the other passengers on the train were totally trhilled to see such a tiny cat (she never got really much bigger than a kitten - like she always had problems to get at least 3kg on the scale ;)). Was always a lot of fun, for mia - our cat - the passengers, and us. ;) At times, she would cry a bit when the needs to visit the litter box, when possible we then took her outside "like a dog".... But she pretty early learned to go to the litter box early before we started our journeys.. (As we learned to give her early signs in the morning, like no longer letting her go outside when she wants .... yes she was a free roaming cat anyways. ;)) You will probably have a _LOT_ of fun with gooey.. Try to give her some sight out her window when travelling ... she will appreciate it. I Love to see how you accept each other as you were and get along so good. ;) Can't wait to see you and her having fun outside in the sun in the upcoming summer. :)

you're sooooo lucky to have such a perfect dog-like kitty/lap cat! does she have a cute meow? 2:20 i heard that is not safe to do, lifting kitties (or dogs) under their arms like that, it can tear ligaments (i think that is the body part that i heard) and you would never be able to tell (i see people loving to lift the cat from ground really high in air from under the arms like that and hold them for a while). i've also read how animals can be suffering in silence with an injury actually needing to go to vet but you might not ever know or detect any symptoms. that's good you'll take off bell, i read that it can be louder and more disturbing/sensitizing for them than we realize, as far as i know they are used to alert birds and so people can hear them, but that's not critical. that's cool you are going to leash train her, she seems a non-scaredycat and like she would love to go outside and go for walks, since she doesnt have anxiety to go in carrier/fear about knowing she's going out somewhere (some cats it's superstressful for them to leave homebase). there are cute videos i've seen of some of those kitties who enjoy the outdoors with the owner, going on hikes, bike rides, even swimming in ocean with owner! also, since she's young it's still a supercool time to train her to use the toilet if you don't want to buy kitty litter anymore. i've heard accounts of people saying even without any training their cat on their own started using toilet instead of litter box. they sell special trays that go over basin under toilet seat and you fill it with kitty litter (if you have a second toilet and can leave the tray there as a litter box, i'm not sure how procedure works if you just have one toilet, i guess temporarily you'd have to remove the tray for yourself) and after they get used to the toilet as litter box, then you get rid of tray with litter and they'll still use the toilet and you can just flush. take care

You still have quite a few years of a playful cat. I know they all have different personalities but my cat is 7 years old and he is stil very, very playful. We have a routine to play everyday before bed, he starts meowig when it's time, and starts acting crazy if it gets too late (running around over furniture, jumping on top of me and even sometimes nibbling on me). He loves chasing a shoestring on a stick, Attacking pens I move under a blanquet, anything that moves and specially chasing after treats (dried salmon meat treats are his favorite but there are a few others he likes). He also likes to be chased, till he gets too nervious and just surrenders by going belly up. He is extremely affectionate and thanks me with gentle headbuts when I feed him. One thing I got that I wish I got sooner was a robo vaccum (roborock q5 pro). He is a little afraid of it still, but it keeps the house clear of cat hair, litter sand, kibble bits and will also help to keep fleas at bay if you ever get that pest.

11:50 maybe if you put a '50% off' sticker on the treats she doesnt like, she'll eat them 😂

11:22 almost all cats are obsessed with freeze dried chicken, so maybe try those as treats :)

if you want to get her used to the leash get the harness kind and let her run around the house for a couple days with just the harness without leash and then after a week or so attach the leash for it that usually works
