Ashley Johnson played Ellie in the game and Ellie’s mom in the series and had Ellie’s knife. Marlene is best friends with Ellie’s mom. Giraffe is real. Damn drs and fireflies not telling Ellie she’s not going to survive the procedure. Joel had to lie to Ellie. They went back to Tommy’s town.

I'm glad you both enjoyed the show! Marlene/the fireflies weren't willing to risk Ellie saying no so they didn't give her a choice and that was their fatal mistake. If they'd given her a choice, she absolutely would have chosen to sacrifice herself and Joel knowing it was her choice and being able to say goodbye would have been enough even if it was tragic. Selfishly, I'm glad that both Ellie and Joel are still alive haha

I wanted Ellie to make the choice and have time with Joel to say their goodbyes. The way Marlene went about it, let me know that Ellie didn’t have a choice and they were going to do it no matter what anyone thought. Also, people are assuming that it was going to work and that isn’t realistic. They would not have known until after they did it if it would be successful. I would’ve done what Joel did. It was just too shady for me to have trusted Marlene and the fireflys.

I AREADY knew what was going to happened because I Played the game BUT What they did for this Series just 👏and the things they did change from the game just 🙌 ALL AROUND!!! IN some ways I enjoyed the series Aspects a little more than I did the game. Now to get to the question asked, “Would we Scarifies 1 of OUR LOVED ones to save HUMANITY?” MY OPINION he did the right thing as He sees her as a Daughter now “BUT” outside looking in its still a Complicated situation because she is the ONLY one who can help Cure the world Whether it works OR NOT, no one knows Because Joel took that from them and HUMANITY now has to continue to Fight this Virus with No HELP or VACCINE. An POOR ELLIE this was her Mission FROM THE START but she had no SAY in ANY OF THIS 😥Just a MARVELOUS job for this series 5/5 I truly hope It Wins BEST SERIES OF 2023. Ellie has survivor's guilt from the traumatic events she went through and probably would have chosen to let herself be sacrificed. It would be a decision from not a good mental space. And if it didn't even work, she would have died for nothing and a world without Ellie is not a world worth saving to Joel.
@scottls
@scottls Жыл бұрын
I am sure many will disagree but the way I see it, Joel HAD to lie to Ellie. He felt he had to protect Ellie because if he would have told her the truth then one of 2 things were bound to happen. Either she accepted the lie and forgave Joel making her live with the guilt of withholding the cure to mankind in exchange for her life, or just the opposite, not forgiving Joel for what he did, breaking off their father, daughter relationship, and possibly losing another daughter as Ellie would try to return to Salt Lake City and sacrifice her life for the mere chance that the cure might be successful. Joel couldn't allow that to happen. In his mind he was protecting her from taking that chance. From again losing the one person that meant so much to him. Yes, Joel ultimately sacrificed himself for the sinns he committed, but at least he and Ellie got a chance to live those 4 to 5 years together in relative piece and enjoy a little happiness together. As a father that has lost my first child... I would have done the same!

I haven't played the game, but Joel taking out the entire hospital was chilling! You totally understand his motivations, even if you don't personally agree. Erik Voss brought up a great point that even if they had gotten the chemical markers from Ellie and used them to inoculate people, the infected would still be ravaging the planet. All the infected people try to attack Ellie, so they can't tell she's has these chemical markers, or they wouldn't bother trying to get her. The same would probably be true for anyone they inoculated with the chemical markers. New people may not get infected from being bitten anymore if they did the surgery on Ellie, but they'd still get killed by clickers and bloaters. Everyone would still be trapped in the QZs and the like. Until they find a way to kill/cure ALL of the infected and ALL the fungus, as well as inoculate regular people, the world will be mostly the same. Joel saving Ellie at the expense of the world doesn't seem as awful when you look at it that way. Ellie definitely would've gone through with the surgery, even knowing it would kill her. I certainly would have in her position.

Thank you for your reactions :) I enjoyed them very much. I dont think its a moral thing to sacrifice an innocent life for a possible greater good. If that person does not have to die, we dont have a right to take their life and even ask them for it. And remember, this is not a situation in which it is either Ellie, or the whole human race. If they dont sacrifice her, human race will not vanish. People still live, even after 20 years. Its a terrible life, but possible. And the price of improvement cannot be an innocent human life. This should be a no go, and other options have to be sought after. Regardless of the fact, if its your close person or not. Thats also why we dont do lethal medical experiments on humans. Even if it would mean finding a cure for cancer or alzheimers faster. Its simply unethical and it would degrade an absolute value of individual human life.

Ellie's mother is ASHLEY JOHNSON, Ellie in the videogame. That was very nice. I don't get that, they could've find another way, Marlene said it, she almost got killed, she wasn't expecting them. Grow cordyceps in a rat. And she says I didn't want to owe you, that wasn't a favor, she didn't even try to pay him. , not the worse and would've not made any difference but still, not even that. I am the mother, my child was almost raped and eaten, she had to kill bad, she has survivor's guilt too, sorry she is not killing her self today. She can decide when she is 18 :)

If it were MY decision to make, I’d hope to have a discussion with my Ellie. I think if we had that discussion and it was their choice, then I’d be devastated but would respect their decision. If we weren’t given that respect, then I think I would be sitting outside the hospital screaming for Ellie at the top of my lungs. Maybe trying to rescue her, but I’m confident I know how long that would last. I’d say I’d try pleading with management, but Marlene already said no so … I feel like Joel both made the right decision (for himself), and also the wrong decision (for everyone else including Ellie). But if the firefly’s had just given Ellie the opportunity to choose, then I think she would have chosen to go forward with the surgery and THEN Joel’s ptsd /trauma trigger would not have been hit. PS. It sounds like they may be shooting season 2 this year, so hopefully next year we’ll have more TLOU 🎉

The part you’re hung up on is simultaneously one of the most important and also the thing you have to suspend your disbelief the most. Ellie has no agency. Marlene was so confident about the decision Ellie would have made, so why not explain things and let her decide (and give her time to explain it to Joel)? Things would have ended very differently, but the story they wanted to tell was about the positive and negative things people do in the name of love. Unfortunately it feels a bit contrived, but I can let that detail go. The story is amazing in every other aspect and that moment at the end is worth making us to suspend our disbelief a little.

Marlene is so desperate to find a cure, after suffering the loss of countless of her people and her best friend, that she'd sacrifice her best friend's daughter if there was any hope of a cure. She didn't think about asking Ellie because she doesn't want to ask her. She wants a cure. She doesn't let Joel near her because she knows he wouldn't just say goodbye and move on. And that got her killed anyway. If anything, she should've killed Joel as soon as he said "I do" when she said she had no choice

@@cooliostarstache5474 people are making Marlene to be evil, but honestly, if she wanted - she could have easily shot Joel when he left the elevator. She genuinely didn't want him to die because she understood where he came from and this empathy got her killed. Joel is way more ruthless.

@@brucesnow7125 I don't think she was evil either. Just desperate. She could see how much Joel cared for Ellie, and to just kill him after all that, she definitely didn't want to do that. Her decisions ultimately wouldn't have mattered much in the grand scheme of things, because nothing, not even being allowed a goodbye, would've stopped Joel from killing them all and saving Ellie
@kyledsweeney

Marlene waited at least 6 months (technically over 14 years). What’s another week or month? Or even let Ellie make the decision when she’s legally old enough to be responsible for herself (by today’s laws). I agree that if Marlene was in such a hurry to sacrifice her best friend’s daughter, she should have just killed Joel. She had to know how he would react, and what’s 1 more sacrifice for the good of humanity? No matter how you look at the situation, you have to suspend your disbelief a little. They had to do _something_ to push the story towards the ending they wanted to tell, and this was that tiny bit of imperfection in an otherwise brilliant story.

I like how they did it in the game. In the game Joel rescues Ellie with so much emotion. He does it so frantically in the verge of tears and we see how venerable he is. In the show he is so much more... serial killer like? He goes on a massacre with no emotion and then just walks out with Ellie making it feel more selfish? IDK just my thoughts I believe the game done the ending better.

@@opretis8923 Of course. I just mean the way he done it in the TV show. Walking down hallways like Michael Myers almost like he knows he has plot armour. In the game it's so much more of a struggle to the operating room. And then he struggles while carrying Ellie out as the fireflies chase them. In the show it was almost too easy for him, physically and emotionally. Watch a comparison of the show to the game and you will see. And of course what he did IS selfish. It's just that in the game because of his fight or flight like behaviour and emotions it comes across less selfish, he believes he's doing it for Ellie. In the show it feels like he KNOWS what he's doing is selfish while he does it.

After all, is Joel the protective hero or the villain? How can you lie to a child who told you that after they take care of the matter, the cure will follow him wherever he wants? Would he lie like that to Sarah, that yes his true daughter? Bahhhh.....and that there can't be a middle ground after such a complicated journey full of horrible obstacles and very aggressive? How can Joel be so selfish in wanting to return to a past that no longer exists? To a past that turned him into a human wreck and now requires him to relive with Ellie what he lived with his daughter Sarah without asking her opinion if she accepts it or not? To prevent people from trying to find a possible cure for humanity is to be a "black hero" with a long black cape and a huge, well-sharpened scythe. I think there will be a lot of controversy between the two of them in the second season !!!
