k.d. Lang...I love her older stuff. AND...I do remember VH1. In my '76 Chevy Impala I had an 8 track, and I had 8 track tapes. Then there was cassette tapes. I still have 388 cassette tapes. I DO still have VINYL, about 1,000. I did move into the CD era, have many many. I haven't been able to move into the new music on my own. My kids (35 and 40) have lead me into some newer stuff, but I prefer to stay in my own realm. That's my comfort zone. My comfort zone is very broad based...classical, country included. Just by some accidental skipping through the radio channels I found Enigma. OH MY GOD!!!! And they've been around a long time. How come I didn't know?! Still one of my fave songs ever. When it first came out the Ingenue CD was on constant repeat. One for the car and one for home. Canadian National Treasure.
@stevieray567 жыл бұрын
“Constant Craving,” was written by k.d. lang and was her most commercially successful single. A song about the struggles of life and the resiliency of the human spirit, “Constant Craving” is a great example of how a lot can be said with a concise lyric, and is notable for its short verses: "Even through the darkest phase Be it thick or thin Always someone marches brave Here beneath my skin" and "Maybe a great magnet pulls All souls towards truth Or maybe it is life itself That feeds wisdom to its youth" And that’s it. That’s both verses of the song. While the premise isn’t entirely unique, the lyrics of “Constant Craving” illustrate that, when the right words are used, less really is more, or is at least just the right amount. And then there’s the chorus, which is only five words: "Constant craving Has always been." Of course, the melody and lang’s delivery, with the syllables drawn out, determine how many beats the words take up within a measure. The song is so expertly written that the few words of the chorus fit perfectly, and say exactly what needs to be said. ’Constant Craving,’ as a matter of fact, wasn’t finished until a week before we actually finished the Ingénue album,” lang said. “I wasn’t happy. I was fighting with the structure of the song right up to the last minute and finally I decided to take a verse out and put a guitar solo in … It was a real tough tooth to pull, that one. It was really hard.” Of crafting the song’s lyrics, lang says, “See, I struggle with tiny little words like ‘here beneath my skin’ or ‘just beneath my skin.’ Every little word. I take hours sometimes on one word.” “Constant Craving” is outstanding work, and shows just how great a song can turn out to be when painstaking consideration is given to every word.

I will NEVER forget hearing this song the 1st time. I was getting ready to go out for the evening and had the TV on to some award show. She started singing this song which I had never heard. I came out of another room to see who had this UNBELIEVABLE voice. I couldn't believe how perfect her voice was. I didn't leave the TV until it was over and made a point of finding out her name. She blew me away. Her voice is still superior to today's singer. I can't believe ANYONE listens to Adele!

Listen for k.d. lang as a backup singer with Bonnie Rait, Jennifer Wairnes, to Roy Orbison's PBS Special, "Black and White Night" -- included Bruce Springsteen, J.D. Souther, Jackson Brown, Elvis Costello, T. Bone Burnett, Tom Waits, etc. Amazing singer! Her range from country to jazz is deeply moving for me!

My stepmum adored k.d. lang. She loved her music and found her very attractive lol. My stepmum was married to a man for years and thought she was straight but had what she liked to call a "midlife crisis" in her 50s lol and discovered she was bi (she split up with her husband for unrelated reasons though). She'd always been obsessed with k.d. lang though, it's just that then was when it finally made sense to her as to why. She met my lesbian mum during this so-called "midlife crisis" lol and they fell in love. 🥺❤️ My stepmum unfortunately very suddenly passed away this past July from a pulmonary embolism that no one knew about until it killed her. My mum chose this as the exit song to play at her funeral. They'd had a wonderful 7 years together and were still together when she died. This was one of the songs that my stepmum always used to play to my mum. It's been a hard year for me and my mum, as well as my stepmum's two sons, and also her ex-husband who still cared deeply for her. I hope you're having a good new year's eve in the afterlife, Alyson. ❤️ Thank you for changing our lives for the better forever and showing us this awesome music. ❤️ I'm definitely thinking of you today. 😢❤️❤️❤️
