I own several of these. They are great for travel, lightweight and a decent height. I use them more frequently for video as second/third angles as they have a small footprint and I can just leave them. Downsides though, they do wobble, so a windy day (or a springy floor) they do sway from side to side. Weighing them down will prevent them from tipping but will not prevent the wobble due to the design. The legs also frequently come loose so require tightening almost every shoot.

I am glad Ray asked, because I have been wondering about the K&F in relation to the ProMaster. I wish there was a combination of the two. I would be inclined to get the LS-CT and attempt to modify it to make it taller.

Thanks for taking on the task of spreading the light, literarily. 🙂 Just bought one of these, first light stand I ever have. Bought it based on height, weight and perceived size. It will be used with my Godox 200Pro, am already pondering getting a second set. The 200 along with the K&F and the AD-S7 makes for a very unobtrusive and portable OCF set.

This one's overkill for a little 200. Some of the ones in my previous video are much lighter and compact kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqTEqqWghMRgnc0

This video was perfect timing, given I was just looking at this one earlier today, so thank you Ray for asking and Markus for diving in so quick! I had a question that might be worth exploring. For some of the more space limited and "universal" minded among us, would you consider light stands like this K&F or the Promaster for general tripod use (with adding a ball head or something) or getting a similar style tripod for use as a light stand, and weighing pros and cons of each? Outside of height advantage going to light stands. Idea being I can put lights or cameras on either, but don't use all my lights when I'm using all my cameras (mainly shoot multi-camera video, OR single camera photography with lights)
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
The k&f and promaster are definitely universal as both light stand and tripod, even big cameras and lenses
@MosquitoMade Жыл бұрын
@@MarkusPix Thanks! That's what I figured, I was mostly curious if it was similar rigidity to a tripod when they're at the lower heights for these light stands? I guess that's my biggest concern. My only frame of reference are the cheap neewer light stands at this point

Love your videos you do an awesome job. I have a quick question since you know about all the stands. I want to purchase my first a D 200 pro or 400 pro and use it with a soft box outside. What stand do you recommend that’s going to be sturdy and not fly off with light wind. In addition do you recommend using weights. Also price is not an option I want quality thank you so much again

hey Markus, i usually do the matthews merf + matthews extension (Matthews 429499) combo to get around 10 ft of light stand height that fits in a Think Tank Airport Security 3.0 or Manfrotto roller 70 or any carry on that has 19" of length. It can hold 10 lbs which should be plenty when using an ad100 or Stella reflex s. I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing that. Also found a good quick release - Neewer ST32 which retails at $15 bucks which you might be interested in. Thanks and love your videos!
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Thanks. That weighs considerably more though than the ones I love. For AD100 or stella reflex I would just use an ultralight carbon fiber like the Nissin, but I often take several AD600s which is why I like the one in this video, plus it's still super lightweight. I love Think tank bags. I have the Airport security, but hardly ever use it because it only has 2 wheels and needs to be tilted. I like the 4 wheel Roller Derby so I can put another bag on top and roll it around.

Hi Markus, thanks for the review. My question isn't about stands but cameras. I am getting back into photography and need a whole new setup. Budget wise I've narrowed it down to the Panasonic Lumix G85 or 95. Do you have any input over either? I know the g95 has a 20mp as compared to the 16mp in the g85. I've heard though the raw files might not color grade as well on the g95 though? I haven't done photography since my film days when my Minolta X700 film camera was at the high end.
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Why do you need raw? Don't let internet nerd sheep brainwash you kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYvMiGeGfLqFrc0 16MP is more than fine
@defensedad Жыл бұрын
@MarkusPix honestly I'm just trying to decide between the 2. I have found them both at the same price. I will use it for both photography and KZbin. I've just seen reviews that the color grading using lightroom doesn't react as well for the g95 for some people. Right now I use strictly my mobile phone but it's time to step it up. At 48 I've been out of the game for a while. Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it.

Would it be possible for you to do a comparison between the Dracast light stand and the “EMART 7ft Air Cushioned Light Stand - Reverse Folding Extendable Leg” light stand on Amazon? They look to be very similar to me except for the price. I’m just curious to see how they compare when one is $34.00 and the other $57.00. If you can’t do it, that’s alright as you already do a lot for your viewers.
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Looks exactly the same. It's possible it's the exact same thing. Dracast lowered their price, it used to be the same price as the Emart one.

What do you think of the Flashpoint 7ft air cushioned light stand? Also, im debating on getting the handgrip light holder with extension head cord for my ad200 and the pouch to hold the ad200 in it so i can extend the head with the ad200 on my hip and just hand hold the round head attachment with the round head modifiers. Whats your opinion on that plan?
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Maybe if it was a 600, but the 200 is so light, its just extra crap to lug around. I'm a total minimalist when traveling, every ounce counts.

My questions never end)). Marcus, what if you use a light stand with ballhead instead of a tripod for camera? Is it sturdy or it's better to use a normal tripod?

My experience with the K&F (I may not have the exact same one but a similar one) is they're OK indoors where there isn't wind. But I wouldn't use them in any type of windy conditions. They are light and fold down quite small (to easily fit in a checked bag) so they are good for that, but I still don't trust mine with a soft box much larger than a bout 24-26 inches (and it needs to usually have some weight on it anyway, even if I use a flash head extension for my flashes -- it's OK supporting an AD200 and a hotshoe flash, but adding a softbox makes it a little insteady and definitely not a good idea for any type of windy conditions. But for indoor use, they're fine. People should also keep in mind that height and stability is usually correlated to size of the lens when spread out. So while the others may be taller when folded (bya few inches perhaps) they may be more sturdy because their stance is wider and more importantly they have the supports that attach to the center rod and add a second point of attachment to the legs. With the K&F you really don't have anything pulling down so to speak, from the center, which is why I wouldn't use it in windy conditions unless you're using sand bags maybe.
@MarkusPix Жыл бұрын
Its got nothing to do with the light stand and everything with the fact the stand is not secured. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS secure my light stands that have softboxes when outoors and many light stands are much lighter and taller than this one. Never had one fall over. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqubaol_graNers you can see the big softboxes swaying in wind here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqTEqqWghMRgnc0 but they are not falling over, and the K&F is sturdier than the ones you saw in those videos
