You are more likely to survive attacks by knives, hammers, bats, and even cars, all of which are designed for functions other than killing. But you cannot prepare food with a gun, build a house with a gun, hit a homerun with a gun, or transport from point a to point b with a gun. The gun is designed only for killing. It is possible to run away from a knife, a hammer, a bat, and even a car, but you cannot run from a bullet. When you get rid of the guns, gun deaths also go away.
