As a first generation Canadian who's family is from England _and_ had to take English proficiency tests to immigrate (where my grandfather returned the form correcting the mistakes on the form itself and "never tell an Englishman how to English" written on it), I have always been in favour of strong borders. Fuck off, you are _not_ welcome in Canada (or any other country) without going through the proper immigration process! All those "refugees" can be sent packing, they are here illegally to begin with (as a refugee you are to travel to the closest neutral/non-hostile country) as the only people who could legitimately claim refugee status in Canada are continental US Americans and there is nothing going on the US that would allow for that.
