Thanks for taking the time to film this. Very much appreciated. I hope mine don't need to be adjusted.

Hi James great video production, much appreciated. Any chance you could do one showing the procedures to replace cams and worn buckets?

De rien. I think that is correct. It's been 40 years since I've had conversational French. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the great video!!! I'm a little scared doing this myself, but I probably have to and will do it anyways.

Would be very nice to see cam removal and bucket change. I have checked and adjusted my valves twice on my LT and both times at least a couple of valves were at the spec limit (48,000 miles and 72,000 miles). The dealer did the first check and I am pretty sure I did not buy any buckets so I don’t think they changed anything. I believe BMW calls for a check every 12,000 miles on the LT, but I think that is overkill given the amount of work involved so I do 24,000 mile checks and no valve has moved out of tolerance by any significant amount, but some will move from mid range to the spec limit in 24,000 miles.

Excellent video. Lots of time put into it, thank you. I'm curious tho, how do you adjust if they out of tolerance?

The cam followers/buckets come in selective thicknesses. The camshafts need to be removed. The follower from the valve with the incorrect lash needs to be removed and measured, and a new follower with the correct thickness installed. Fortunately, I have not had to replace any on my bike. I have over the years replaced some on cars. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.

Thanks James, excellent video set ! Looks like Atlrider bars installed ? Do you recommend them for tip over - drop protection. Thanks !
@jamestruxal1036 жыл бұрын
Yes, they're Altrider bars. They sit a little higher and wider than the original. The previous owner had a couple of tip overs and some damage is pretty high. It looks like the original bars let the bike roll clear over until the upper fairing and saddle bags stopped the bike. After I installed the Altrider bars, I very carefully and slowly tipped the bike on its sides and the Altrider bars stopped it from teetering clear over. I also had a moving "incident" where I connected with the wife's car and ended up off the driveway lying on the side in my front yard. The bars did a pretty good job then as well. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

I don’t see a part 5. I have heard that the K1600 is a bugger to refill with coolant and needs a vacuum system to do so correctly. How did you do that? Did you obtain a vacuum system or find a workable alternative?

Now I know why the 18000 miles service is expensive!

Honestly there's a lot of BMW markup in it too. I have no formal automotive or MC mechanical background and I can understand all this. There's not a lot of voodoo involved here.
