This is one of the most difficult song danced by any one in Indian Cinema. First, the weight of outfit was only 30 kg (66 pounds), then heavy jewellery was extra. Second, the dance style was Indian Classical Kathak. Third, it was choreographed by Birju Maharaj Ji itself, a legend and choreography was very complex, full of expressions and complicated steps. Any other actress other than MD would not have done it this much beautifully. Madhuri is most followed Indian Diva on whose movies has been made idolizing her. She has ruled box office in past for very long period of time than any other one. She has helped many actors who are superstars today. She is always active in one thing or other.

OMG Professor, l logged in despite the fact its so late here, only for this video. You know this song is a classical/semi-classical dance form of Kathak. Each and every hand gesture, movement here had some meaning, either on words of song or otherwise. Plus, Kathak is considered a very fast dance, that is feet should move very fast esply if beats are fast. This song was also choreographed by a maestro of Kathak dance form 'Pt.Birju Maharaj". I wish and hope you could see more of Madhuri Dixit's dances. Maybe try videos for some of her stage performances, on Filmfare, IIFA, Gold Awards, and other awards; r her videos from the reality shows she has judged. Jhalak Dikhla Kaa (Indian version of Strictly Come Dancing.in which one professional choreographer an done star are made dancing partners) and " So You Think You Can Dance" (she judged this show, this year in 2016 only)

This is a classical dance form called Kathak. The story of Devdas has been made and remade for the sheer pain of losing the one you love and then losing yourself for not having had the courage to go away/ defy society for them. Here, Devdas is fresh off the pain of seeing his girlfriend's wedding. His friend has brought him over to the red light area, to the doorstep of Chandramukhi - the courtesan. Devdas despises the courtesan lot for their work and is there for courtesy sakes. She falls in love with him at first sight and is trying to flirt while entertaining the crowd. The whole thing was an elaborate set. this was not shot at any famous location. Notice the set, it is brought to life with all the lighting and camera angles. Sanjay Leela Bhansali likes to stage his characters on a larger than life backdrop. Notice all visual elements - the costume, the set, the props. All well studied and mimicked for authenticity.

i know it is dude..but all iam saying is..its not so main streamed..hardly any classical songs are used in main stream cinemas..and they dont get their dues..neither in terms of fame..nor in terms of money..arijit singh has charged as much as 50 to 60lacks..do u think he deserves that much..no way he doesnt..a classical singer unfortunetly deserves more..but unfortunately that can never happen

Don't talk about him, I don't like his sad and miserable songs. All I wanna say is that the graph of indian classical nowadays is incrementing, there are many persons in foreign teaching our classical forms and those people like these forms like anything. Nowadays people doesn't have neutral attitude about classicals instead they are taking these positively.

Omg Thank you so much for reacting to this Professor. Like most have already commented this is a very complex form of classical dancing. Madhuri makes it look effortless and easy I don't think any other Bollywood actress can match up to her grace and expression. It's a shame this song didn't have subs you would have understood the meaning more had the lyrics been translated nonetheless please react to more Madhuri films/songs. This is mujra dance form. In earlier days and I'm not sure if it still continues in few places, girls used to dance while men used to pay to drink and watch them dance. Later they could pay for them to spend night with them. These women were usually abducted in childhood and sold in different cities and taught singing, dancing, language and poetry to make them excellent in their profession.
