My father played this for me one time around the fire. "Kate, you gotta hear this song! It reminded me of you!" And he played this. This was when I was on a John Prine kick and I had asked him if he liked him as well, because one thing we both loved dearly was good music. I cried when he played it because it was so sweet and made a lot of sense... I was a handful growing up and still am to this day. On Halloween this year he died at 71 in his favorite airplane alongside his good friend, after 56 years of safe flying and even saving himself and others from emergency situations. He was a legend in the world of light sport and homebuilding and the world lost not only an iconic aviator, but the worlds best dad. I can't stop listening to this song. It will always be so special to me and have so so many layers of meaning.

Back in the 70s when I was maybe 5 my mother would spin 60s/early 70s music on our record player Could hear it anywhere in the house. There was Croche, Credence, Stones, etc....but John Prine was the only one that I ever really truly stuck with.

I discovered old John Prine not long before he passed away and ever since there's no day I 'youtube' some of his marvelous songs. Indeed John Prine remain alive as long as there's one of his admirers playing any of his masterpieces of country music...and there're hosts of new fans discovering this wonderful man's songs every day.

@@carlbailey1301 that's not it, there's a KZbin video (of course) of John himself saying her record label guys don't think it's a good idea for her image or something along that gist.. don't quote me but a little clicking around and you can hear John himself explain why they didn't record it together on an album but he was alive then.. now I bet some record exec is kicking himself..

Kacey is very talented. A standout in her generation. If she were just a singer, and didn't write phenomenal songs, she'd still be a super star. That said, she has one serious flaw: her marketing of drug use in her songs. Maybe she does it for attention. Maybe she is a pothead who likes to experiment with drugs, but if that's the case eventually you'll ruin your God given talent and that would mean a light has faded from this world. Kacey please think about your life and God's plan for you.
