There's something really magical about that melody change after the first chorus. And she is beautiful too, jusy like this song.
@AustinMarti5 жыл бұрын
I've seen this mentioned on two different live performances of this song and I can't figure out what you guys are talking about. As far as I can tell, the key doesn't change. The melody doesn't change (it's the same as the first verse). There are a couple interesting fills. I don't know if I'm losing touch with music or going crazy or what. What are you referring to? Is there a modulation I'm not hearing? I'm listening on laptop speakers -- probably doesn't help.
@julia.f.farina5 жыл бұрын
@@AustinMarti Good question. Perhaps he means the vocalises (E-G-F#) that are backed up by an instrument (I'm actually not sure what that is - keyboard?) It's a little "otherworldly" sounding.
@themessenger83345 жыл бұрын
@@AustinMarti I think it's really just referring to the additional instrumentation that comes in during the second verse. I listened to Kacey's older stuff before this, which was more traditional country-style, but when I first listened to this album, and this track was the first thing on that album, hearing the additional instruments drop in like that let me knew I was in for something special. But there's no melody change, no key change, nothing inherently "different" about the song as a whole, it just opens up when the drums and additional guitars and keyboards come in. It's songwriting at its finest, IMO.

@@themessenger8334 I agree, I can't put my finger on it, but it makes my hair stand on end. Very emotional on many levels.

I love this song because the ideas the lyrics convey are so poignant, relevant, and vivid; while the words are so few and simple. For example, the changing generations, a different time and age; “grandma cried when I pierced my nose” ; or the world growing smaller, the global economy “in Beijing there headed out to work”. Yet it gives me hope, “Taking my time, let the world turn, I’m gonna do it my way, it’ll be alright”. It’s a slow burn. Absolutely fantastic.

I'm old and so out of touch with "what's happening" in music these days, especially when it comes to a lot of what's been called "country" this last decade or two, but I kept hearing this song playing overhead at the gym the last few weeks on satellite radio but not on a "country" station. Does something like this even chart as "country"? Maybe "Americana" ... Doesn't much matter to me where it gets pigeon-holed. For sure a lot of the words, the imagery, the instrumentation, and of course the artist's voice; it all comes together so magically ... The old guy had to look up just who the heck does this song. Outstanding work Ms Musgraves! 'Sounds so authentically soulful and real. I might just be inclined to listen to the rest of the CD and make a purchase. Strong work young lady!

I put Kacey's music under the _Americana_ genre, and I don't really know what that is! Americana to me is a wide category. Her music is Rock with a slight twang, folk, soul, pop, blues and even psychedelia. Did you buy _Golden Hour_ yet?
