As a big fan, I’m surprisingly okay with people going “WHO?” on her. Kacey has sadly been blacklisted by Country radio ever since she released her progressive song “Follow Your Arrow” years ago, which of course did not sit well with the genre’s mostly conservative folks. Not officially, but almost no Country radio would ever give her a chance. So I get every single comment saying who is she because she sadly has very little exposure. BUT. If you’re saying who and then following it by having never listened to her, and then saying someone else deserved it more, then you are just hating that she won. Plain and simple. Not even willing to give the album a chance but already committing to think somebody else is robbed is just plain hatred. Give Golden Hour a chance. It didn’t get the highest Metacritic score out of everything nominated for nothing.

Songs that tell stories, songs that are true, relatable and in a way, rebellious in nature that I would argue to say that they reflect themes of country music that we haven’t seen in many decades. It’s why she is held in such high regard with people like Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson. She is indeed country, regardless is it sounds poppy. Pop itself has changed over the last 50 years.

@@itsyeboiblayt7472 the Grammys are not a popularity contest, like the MTV Awards, nor even a sales reward, like the Billboard Awards. Its a vote of peers of artistic merit. So you having or not having heard of her is irrelevant.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to her songs yet but I really like how her fans, when defending her aren't tearing others down but are instead encouraging haters to listen to her music and support her. I like that sort of attitude and I will definitely check out her stuff. Congrats to Kacey and to her fans. P.S. FFS Grammys, this is your biggest award, at least have the respect to let her finish talking before you go on and play her off. For your biggest award of the night no-less, I get you're on a time crunch but this is so disrespectful and stressful for the artist.

Apparently there are a lot of people who are throwing hate towards Kacey for winning Album Of The Year. These people have either not listened to Kacey at all, or are die hard supporters of other artists. I highly recommend these people to go listen to Kacey’s album and then talk. Nevertheless, Golden Hour was an outstanding album and definitely deserved this award. The music, the lyrics, the theme, the performances, the visuals and everything was beautiful. Each and every song was unique in its own way and incredible itself. Well deserved album. Hope to see Kacey making more brilliant music in the future and win Album Of The Year again.

Real talk I don't know what the criteria to win album of the year cause I thought it had to do about charts, albums sold, discussion, and cultural impact. Cause the Grammy's is full of shit...but I'm not surprise cause they have never awarded people/groups that deserve grammy's anyway
@christopherwilloughby36475 жыл бұрын
The Grammys looks at charts and airplay when they decide who to nominate. Artistry comes into play, and is a huge deciding factor, but so does commercial success. Once the nominations are in the recording academy members vote on said nominations. Look at Lemonade and 25, both were huge albums critically and commercially. Lemonade was more “artistic” and my personal choice to win, but Adele’s was more commercially successful which gave her a helping hand. For album of the year they look at everything.

The funny thing being that the album is BARELY Country, and Kacey Musgraves isn't all that "Red State" friendly, since she's weed smokin, LGBTQ supporting, etc etc. She won this not because of a groundswell of country music loving music conservatism, but DESPITE that, since she's pretty much the opposite of those people.
