I have very, very fond memories of blur, and still have it installed! The only things I didn't like were lack of cloud saving (so if you don't search out your single-player save before a format, you lose it - but the multiplayer progress is saved....), and the lack of rebindable controls - just two options is all you get. Oh, and Activision for killing the successor off - I was so excited about it. And then they took down the website, so people (like one friend of mine) that bought the physical copy of the pc version can not play with me, as I (on steam) am on a newer version, and the update is nowhere to be found. Really, fuck Activision. Blur is the shit.

And that is thanks to Black Box studios, since they "only" continued with the franchise since NFS Hot pursuit 2 (2002), it was thanks to them that NFS happened to be something Fast and Furious (NFS Underground) and then something to Forza Horizon style (NFS Pro Street) and then some GTA style (NFS The Run); and then the other developers that followed (Slight Mad Studios with NFS Shift; Criterion games with NFS HP 2010 and well, a long etc.), NFS no longer maintained its own style or kept its original from the 1994-2002 era.

I have the PC version, which still runs well on my modern Windows 10 laptop, but I have to use a NoCD crack just to bypass the game's copy protection and not have to put in the disc just to play it.

Here's a crazy idea: Instead of this, they should have made the Wii version a remaster of the original Hot Pursuit. If they're already reusing the title, why not go all the way with it? Just improve the graphics, add modern cars, maybe some extra content, and done. The PS2 isn't _that_ much less powerful than the Wii. It is weaker (consider release dates) but it's not too extreme. Just a medium-sized margin, I'd say.

Wii: 729Mhz PowerPC CPU, 249Mhz GPU 88MB of RAM PS2: 300Mhz RISC CPU, 150Mhz GPU, 8MB of RAM I think the Wii is waaay more powerful than the PS2, and was capable of way more things. Some later games prove it. If the PS2 could do it, the Wii should be able to do it better.

It's definitely not the hardware's fault that it looks and plays bad. My point about the hardware being weak is that you couldn't just throw fidelity at it the way you could with the 360/PS3- it couldn't deliver. Games could still look great but they had to be stylized, and that's why so many games of this era took that approach. Nitro did it right, even if I don't like the style, and Hot Pursuit was a decided step backwards in visuals.

@@runningat50hz don't forget that what was called "memory" in the PS2 was actually storage space, it was not all all like the RAM in PCs. The "memory" in the PS2 is more compared to a hard drive of a PC, because they both store information. RAM and storage space serve 2 totally different purposes. I'm just not sure what you meant by that but I am assuming by RAM you meant storage space of both consoles. And I actually researched it and ps2 memory cards can have 128MB max, so it's not limited to 8MB of storage.

Currently playing the Wii port of Carbon. I actually like the motion controls. With the nunchuck at least. It does have a bit of a learning curve to adjust to. But pretty quickly i was able to drift around the open city in free roam and have fun with racing.

I played the shit out of this thing when it came out 10 years ago, and the split screen multiplayer was probably the best part. Made for some of the best times of my childhood, playing this with my younger brothers.

I've been playing it on the Origin Access trial and just recently decided I want to get it and play more. i want to dip my toes in the "reviewing a game outside of the context of being a weird port/version" waters with something else first, something I've had in mind for a while. But Heat is definitely on the table, as is NFS2015.

The sense of speed is incredible and with all the unlocked parts, the handling model can be corrected to work well without the drifting mechanics.

By the way Kacey, the sounds in the Wii version were not only ripped directly from NFS Nitro, but OTHER EA games as well. For example, the sound when you highlight a menu option was ripped straight from the first FIFA Street game, and the sound when a menu pops up was ripped straight from SSX On Tour.

god. i never would have caught all of that. That's kinda insane. I wonder how that decision was made. Did they literally just email Papa EA and ask for a library of generic sounds to use?

Another great review 👍 having just first watched your previous NFS Undercover review video, given KZbin had recommended both to me, so it made sense to watch them in the correct order of course! I bought this game when it came out in 2010. I was just a kid who knew nothing about computer hardware so i thought that it was going to be like the PC version. When i launched the game it was like a cruel prank that ruined my evening... :(
