This DS incarnation of Hoover Dam reminded me of transformers 2007, so it was very recognisable despite it's limitations. Genuinely super impressive for what it is and you can tell they were learning.

I played a ton of Black Ops on the DS. It was the only way I could play FPS games at the time, and I even slogged through the entire campaign on the hardest difficulty, just to prove I could. Our house's wifi wasn't compatible with the DS at the time, so I had to go to the public library to try some online multiplayer.

if I recall, COD 4 DS Veteran is COD DS Normal for every game after it. As much as I like the DS games, this awkward massive jump in difficulty is not a part I was a fan of.

Handheld gaming systems are still around and are better than ever since they can play full PC/Console releases. Switch, Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, Etc.

​@@dewitnow1765 Thats kinda the thing tho, they're pretty much just portable PCs or home consoles you can play on the go in addition to playing on the TV. Handheld gaming as we all knew it and loved it growing up (or perhaps not, depending on how old you were during the DS's heyday.) is more or less dead, and while the advancements in technology for portable gaming devices are super cool and exciting to witness as a gamer, I can't help but long for that bit of soul that we've undeniably left behind. Sure, gaming handhelds from back in the day had their limitations, but there was something kind of exciting about seeing how they'd get around those limitations. That's basically not a thing anymore, outside of the rare third party game on Switch that runs like garbage compared to other versions (MK1). And even that isn't nearly the same as getting a handheld specific entry in your favorite series and getting to see how they adapted the franchises' gameplay loops to work (or sometimes, not work) on the go.

one of my pet peeves with MW3 Defiance is the reused assets used from black ops from character models and weapon models. It just doesn't make any sense to reuse weapon and character models from a completely different timeframe

There were a bunch of surprisingly good FPS games on the DS. Relying on the touch screen for aiming, swapping weapons and reloading felt really intuitive

For those who do not have reference: the Xbox 360 had a triple-core CPU @3.2 GHZ and 512MB of shared ESRAM. They were porting AAA games from that hardware to dual-core ARM cpus with 128MBS of RAM. That stuff is impressive.

We need rom hacks for the cod games on ds. Fixing the problems these games have, bigger player lobbies, multiplayer bots, and more. As a person that played cod ds online, I can confirm while these games are stupid fun, they have room for improvement. For MW3, adding more singleplayer modes, a co-op mode, and more multiplayer modes would've made mw3 defiance the best game in the series. I personally like this game over the rest. Because it has a casino level. Also Birdknives dosent do the game nights anymore. He told me in the cod ds discords. 👍

The framerate did vary on native hardware and depending on the model of DS you used. Otherwise, low framerates weren't really that jarring on DS, except when it ate your input for things like double tapping down to crouch or forward to sprint.

Finally he reached this point BO1 is the second best DS CoD but MW3 was when the studio peaked for CoD games on DS. The controls and overall game were the best they could do at that time. Ironically speaking,I always found the BO1 and MW3 themes on DS to be underrated yet good. Funny how DS CoD is better than the one on PSP. Man PSP CoD was a case of decent enough tech but no idea at all behind the game, it was beyond uninspired. Thankfully both Medal of Honor games were decent in their own way (although first Heroes would really benefit from even slightly better enemy AI), and Brother in Arms was good even if it's control schemes were really stupid (but BiA was never about fast action so it wasn't all that bad).

@chataclysm2112 the only reason you'd find black op's narrative to be generic or thin is if you didn't pay attention during bo1 and bo2. There are HUNDREDS of miniscule details that recontextualize everything about the stories in both games beyond the basic plot.

Most cod stories are paper thin nonsense, especially modern warfare, but treyarch went full in making black ops a multifaceted mystery with minor details that completely change how you look at the story, starting all the way with world at war.
