The Tsubakihara captain calming his teammates nerves by making them glad they're not facing Shiratorizawa is completely valid. It won't make them underestimate Karasuno, it just makes them not freak out about them. And be realistic, if Karasuno and Shiratorizawa faced each other ten times, I don't think Karasuno would win even five of those.

To be fair I don't think the captain was mentioning luck as a negative thing. Karasuno did beat Shiratorizawa, but if they played again I'm not 100% sure who would win that. Luck is an important aspect of any sport and you have to be ready to capitalize on it is all I think he was trying to say

I think they did watch at least some highlights, because they say "it's not like Karasuno crushed them" which is FACTS, Karasuno had to go on a 5th set deuce, so Tsubakihara are right to be relieved and work with what they've got to reassure themselves before their first match.
