It's true that they are definitely more reasonable, but That's not 100% out of goodwill, since there are a lot of laws regarding gacha games set in place to avoid such blatant money grubbing on a giant market and the ones that are more on the aggressive side are usually shunned or try to be more subtle in their approach.

As someone who is incredibly susceptible to these pop-up marketing strategies, I just want to thank you for bringing more attention to them. I struggle on a deep level with my self-control, and have quite a severe spending problem that is only further enhanced by all these manipulative microtransactional tactics. There are some computer games even, that despite how much I love them, I cannot play them anymore or else I genuinely face financial trouble. (Warframe, being one) It's not just kids with parent's cards that can fall victim to these purchases, I'm a grown adult with my own money to worry about, there are vulnerable people out there. These horrible companies are preying on us, and it's a real problem.

@@Mark-fo6hz It's rough, for sure. Currently, i have £18 in my bank and I know exactly what purchases led to that. I knew which purchases would lead to that before I even made those purchases. I can't comment on how much like possession it would be like, it's more like... I'm mentally incapable of recognizing it as a bad idea. It's like trying to convince yourself that drinking water is a bad idea. Every part of you is screaming "this is important, this is good, this cannot be a bad idea", because it *is* a good idea. Except in this analogy, buying things isn't necessarily a good idea, but I can't stop myself from holding that same mentality, even as I look at a £250 purchase and the £254 in my bank account, I can recognize "I will not have any money after this", but no matter what, that concept does not outweigh the pros of buying the item, even if the pros are minimal.

Honestly the worse FTP games are usually the ones you get the ads for. They always hit you with the worst gameplay and most preditory microtransactions. I play ftp games alot when I am bored and have to travel. I have honestly found the least preditory ftp just searching for games on the app store. The worst that they tend to offer is going ad free ( and unlike the supermarket game, they actually remove the ads). I dont usually comment this much on videos but I felt I had to do something to boost engagement! .......over 300£ is ouch

I think the reason that the most predatory ones that you often see adds for is because of how predatory they are, they can afford to buy out add slots. Which leads to more people getting preyed upon which leads to more money to buy out more adds. whereas games that are small enough to not have adds have to give reasons for you staying long enough to justify paying something instead of spamming you with "buy this" windows. Because that would just make someone more likely to just drop and delete said game.

Some games are decent about it and give excellent deals to buy away the ads, others are incredibly deceptive and do the whole "No Ads" thing where you think you're buying away advertisements, but it just happens to be you're buying away the forced ads that appear in the middle of gameplay, and if you really want to get rid of ads it's this big amount. Sometimes there are three layers of them to buy away. If they're actually fair about it and have a decent price, I will normally always point that out in the reviews as a deserved positive to list.

It's why I never got into MMOs like WoW or FF14. I played a FF mobile game called FFRecord Keeper for a long while, it was quite fun, and extremely Free-to-Play friendly (in that it gave out the premium cash VERY regularly, so even I could get draws for equipment once or twice every couple of weeks). Thanks for taking the hit for us all, to showcase just how nasty these things are. I think it's a good lesson to show off, especially to newer generations, every now and then, just as a refresher.

Used to play Topwar on my mobile. Not going to disclose how much I dumped into the game (too much), but to get the max VIP level, you needed to dump $50k USD at least. There were people that did that about 10x over, on more than one account... The biggest spender in the game, Take, was believed to be the CEO of Mitsubishi or some other car company. Thought to have dumped almost $1m USD... Since it was a pvp sort of game, the only way to get anywhere was to spend money. I think my bank almost cheered for me when I finally deleted it...
