Amazing work as usual! About the "is hit" issue at 11:20, there's a simple explanation for that: the raycast node sends out a 1 when the ray hits the object (the car) and a 0 when it doesn't; the delete geometry node will delete the geometry where there's a 1 (so, a positive selection), and keep the rest (with a value of 0). Therefore the delete geometry will delete the points selected by the "is hit" socket, aka the points that are on the car. Hope it's clear!

Thank you for tutor! I found, that more flexible do not create mirror part in nodes. You can create one more object with this node and scale it by "-1" on x-axis, So you will have not fake mirror scan lines of object. And more flexible it for tourus target object, you can add another 2 object with this nodes and move it from center by "-x" and "+x" on side of target object, so you are got a scan line with out hole onside.

Kai, please add something that absorbs a broadband of low-mid to high-mid frequencies in front of you with full coverage. I highly recommend Aurelex Acoustic panels, of at least 2" in thickness. You can buy 1'x1'x2" wedge cuts by the box. It's worth every penny. Don't skimp. You need closed-cell foam that actually absorbs. Anything else is just a complete waste of money. Put a nice rug fully underneath you. If you want to be on a hard surface, then put the same treatment above you on the ceiling as you do in front of you. Then, on the side walls, you can use a checkerboard pattern of the same treatment providing some reflective surfaces and some absorptive ones. You can either leave your back wall as is, or I recommend putting a nice multi-shelf bookshelf behind you and stock it with lots of different sized books for a good diffusor. This will MASSIVELY IMPROVE your audio, allowing you to up the quality of your videos immensely. As for the content, brilliant stuff with loads of great of ideas. Cheers!

Awesome tutorial, I've got a bit of a problem, how would this work if that object isn't symmetrical and I can't just mirror the points. Been trying but haven't come up with something that works.
@KaizenTutorials Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Hmm yeah that's good question! I'm not sure on the exact node setup, but you could basically change the nodes, move the points to the other side of the object, flip the raycast direction and now you'll get points basically being moved to both sides, which should work for non-symmetrical objects.
@zdzczx76609 ай бұрын
this works well with symetrical objects, how would you approache things like text or other non-symetrical objs. Thanks!
@KaizenTutorials9 ай бұрын
Yeah that's true! For non symmetrical objects you can simply copy the part of the node tree responsible for the raycast. Then use that to actually find the other side of your non-symmetrical object and voila. This will be computationally heavier though, but it would work fine.

Amazing tutorial love the way you break it down too many tutorials just tell you what to do but don’t take you through the thought process extremely valuable ! Your a savage 🔥 also does this only work on cycles ?
@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Appreciate the kinds words. The setup as I created only works in Cycles, but that's due to the Points not being visible in EEVEE. You could get a workaround though; I'll give a short rundown of how to achieve this in EEVEE. Leave everything the same, except the nodes curves to points and set point radius. Take those out. Replace the curves to points with a 'Resample Curve' node. Set this to your desired number (I used 500 in the tutorial, but you might need a lower number for performance since we're not using points). Then add an instance on points node after this one and instance a icosphere on it with a very small radius so it looks good. Make sure the icosphere is set to 1 subdiv so you're optimizing your scene! This should give you a very similar result and this one works in EEVEE. 🙌

@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Danke Schön! So assuming you have set the output to mp4 ffmpeg video then you should be able to go to render ‘render animation’. Don’t press F11 or choose render image, that will only do 1 frame. Also make sure your timeline matches your frame settings in the output settings. So if your animation is 100 frames long make sure your render output settings match that. Hope this helps! Great video -how to add new targets?
@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
You can take any 3D object and put it in your scene. Then define it as the target in the geometry nodes system (I show how in the tutorial). Make sure the object is sort of in the same place as all the points, so the raycast node can actually find it. Also if you have a complex object, made out of multiple parts, I would advice you to combine them all with CTRL+J and then remesh it into a simplified shape with the remesh modifier. This helps to get better results and if you do it right you shouldn't be able to tell! I did this for this car object in the video aswell. Good luck!

This is so fantastic it's insane how you come up with these! Better with every video. I tried to use this for a sample project and it worked with most objects, but I tried a high poly David statue (75k tris) and it didn't seem to show anything. Any ideas? Edit: nevermind, i was a dumdum and didnt apply scale to my object. Thanks again for top notch idea and tutorial!

Thanks a lot! Glad you like it and happy you got your issues fixed. It works best with non multipart objects and they don’t have to be detailed at all. The car i used was a highres model which i completely joined together in 1 object (had like 60 parts before) and then remeshed in a blobby car like shape haha. Works perfect and you can’t even tell using this method ;-)

@@KaizenTutorials absolutely. i used the decimate modifier and reduced the face count multiple times. I think this works best on completely convex objects like cars etc. there seems to be some issue with shapes like human bodies where after the ray hits the first surface (chest for example), there are no rays cast on the hand which comes after the chest.
@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly that! You could create a workaround by seperating partd and giving each it’s own GeoNode system so the ray only focusses on that part. But that might get heavy on the computer pretty fast!

I realize this tutorial is one year old, but important note: as of my testing the material application does not work in Eevee, so if you want to recreate this on your own, save yourself some time and use Cycles from the beginning!

"Instances in input geometry are ignored" this is the msg I get from raycast node when I connect a geometry to it
@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the raycast doesn't work with an instance as an input I believe. I think you can fix it by plugging a 'realize instances' node before the raycast node. :-)

Why can't it be displayed in ev?
@KaizenTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for sure but I think it has to do with how EEVEE is basically a rasterized renderer and cycles uses raytracing. The points are rendered and are always in full resolution no matter how much you zoom in. So this is probably only possible using raytracing. If you want to do this in eevee just replace the part of the points with a resample curve node (with your desired resolution) and then instance on points an icosphere or something round 👍🏻

This is their comment! miha_nimation • 8 days ago Hey Kaizen :) do you have the link to the video you were inspired by? (the McLaren-Vid that you show at 00:11)...I would really like to have a look at it and analyze the movement of the rays a bit more ^^ . Also, I figured out how to make the nodes work in eevee : after the last "join geometry" put an "instance on points" and connect a sphere into the instance input, and then set the material.
