@@wisp3591 The alien thing was completely out of left field in DB too. Goku was based off of Wukong, and there were all sorts of weird things in DB, like dinosaurs, mummies, vampires, a guy with an eye in his head, a shapeshifting/talking pig, the king of the world is a dog, demons, a Man-Wolf, flying carpets, magic etc. Goku being a kid with a tail wasn't actually that weird. A lot of his Superman parallels came much later. Kaguya is said to be from the moon/descended down onto the eath, and is based on Japanese folklore, which includes other heavenly beings descending to reclaim her (Boruto). She was foreshadowed way too late though. Madara from Valley of the end, Kaguya during War arc. Boruto has done a better job of justifying Kaguya's existence and will hopefully continue to improve it, just as DBZ has made aliens a staple of DB and people can't imagine it without them.

The best part about Zabuza is that he didn't have any actual malice or hatred for Team 7. He was paid to do a job, and was doing that job until his employer skipped on the payment. After that, he and Team 7 had no further beef. I like that wrap up, as opposed to an adolescent's 15-second talk changing the entirety of his world view.

​@@carso1500 i never read that scene that way myself, i always thought from the way kakashi tried to stop naruto and the way zabuza just stood there calmly the whole time that both of them were mutually aware their fight was over and that zabuza was, in his own way, in mourning. seeing as kakashi was the one who killed haku and would have been right next to zabuza at the moment of his death he would have seen the look in zabu's eyes, i think he could tell that hurt him more than he let on when naruto started yelling i interpreted zabuza's responses about how "we're just tools, i only care about his kekkei genkai" as him just trying to maintain his currently very brittle emotional shield, and then his "kid... not another word." wasn't so much a "damn... never thought avout it that way but shut up..." and more of a "i know. i knew before you said that". imo it wasn't him changing his internal viewpoint over the course of like 15 seconds but more that naruto being naruto, and naruto being a very honest 12 year old who yet lacks the emotional maturity to recognize an adult's bluff, somewhat unwittingly jabbed his little ramen fingers into a very fresh and painful wound, and zabuza heard all of that stuff laid out by an innocent, honest, purehearted, dumb little kid (keyword innocent and purehearted, which is what haku is described as), and it overwhelmed him for a second, as well as made him realize there was no point keeping up that front at this point. hell, other than the emotional damage, he probably also wanted to keep gato from mistreating haku's corpse any further which he absolutely would have done had he known that zabuza actually cared about haku, just to taunt him. kakashi is totally silent right then too, doesn't even look surprised, cause imo he knew it was coming from the moment haku died; everything he said and did after naruto starts on that rant or hell even after haku died only suggests to me that he knew the whole time and then right after that, zabuza just kinda calmly agrees with naruto after the "kid, not another word" and pretty plainly explains that haku sacrificed himself for team 7 about as much as he did for zabuza, that haku's heart was breaking fighting everyone like that, calls haku purehearted and kind- TOO purehearted and kind... that on its own is enough to show that zabuza has more emotional intelligence than he was letting on, but right after that he also tells naruto he's right, and that ninjas really are just human and emotions are something they're going to have no matter how hard they try not to. the fact that he doesn't SEEM to attack kakashi in revenge is, firstly, kind of moot when they were still in a death battle to begin with, and secondly, only a further sign of his emotional maturity (and respect of kakashi) to me is even after the facade breaks, zabuza never targets kakashi, he considers their fight over as soon as gato shows up, and later asks kakashi to let him see haku's face one last time; it isn't that he doesn't care, it's just that he clearly doesn't even blame the guy for what happened to haku we never see zabuza and haku's daily life, we never saw the moment that zabuza made the realization that haku was a truly kind and purehearted individual who hated fighting others, HOW he realized it, what he did when he learned, we don't even get a reason haku is so devoted to him other than the fact that zabuza took him in. we only ever see zabuza in "work mode" until naruto breaks him, and obviously, zabuza in work mode is going to be hiding as many weaknesses as he can, including his emotions and ESPECIALLY that he actually cares for who is pretty much just his adopted son. i have to imagine based on just what canon gives us from haku's backstory and zabuza's dialogue during the "not another word" moment that even if zabuza and haku DO always talk to each other in that "you are my tool" "yes sir i sure am" way even in private, they have an unspoken understanding that that isn't all there is and that the moment zabuza took haku in he began showing him kindness as well. zabuza straight up calls him "my dear haku," i have to imagine that he's been aware for a loooong time how much he truly cares for him. they had a mutually caring relationship that zabuza obviously chose to hide HIS half of as much as possible and especially while on the job, most likely even keeping it subtle in private just in case he was being spied on, in order to protect haku as much as he could, and i think haku probably recognized that and it's precisely why he could be so devoted to him in a scenario where naruto was knocked out or something and couldn't say all that shit, i 100% believe that what would have happened is zabuza would have asked KAKASHI for a spare kunai instead, without mentioning what it was for, and kakashi would have handed it to him, because they both knew what it was for and why. considering zabuza said "i'm glad my last battle was against you, boy", it's pretty clear he fully expected to die, but i think it's also that he *intended* to, because he had lost the only thing precious to him. let's say naruto is now present and conscious but all he sees is kakashi giving the kunai to zabuza and then zabuza going fucking nuts, and he questions it and starts trying to yell at zabuza about haku's fate, but kakashi just tells him to stand down and that zabuza isn't fighting for his own sake right now. the end, where zabuza asks to see haku as he lays dying, would have been the same. zabuza would have asked kakashi to let him see haku's face one last time, kakashi would have obliged, and it's all of this that makes naruto realize zabuza cared the Whole Damn Time and was just hiding it. in other words, the same thing that actually happened in the manga TLDR, a 12 year old didn't change zabuza's worldview by yelling at him for a few seconds, but rather when your adopted son just died and some fucking dumbass 12 year old gets on your ass literally listing all the reasons it is ridiculously tragic that your son just sacrificed himself to save your life and how fucked it is you're not even gonna admit it and cry a little before you do your revenge-suicide mission, you will probably feel at least a little pathetic about it as a full grown man

When you realize Sakura really is one of the only main characters without a family or important death. Neji's dad and in turn Hinata's uncle, ino and shikamaru lost their fathers in the war. Add Choji with them and insert Asuma. Tenten, Rock Lee, and Hinata with Neji. Even side characters like B and Gaara have important deaths that impacted them.

It is oddly so accurate portraying kakashi as a guy who goes out drinking every night and the 3rd as an old curmudgeon that believes that suffering in childhood makes a person tougher, like it’s a learning experience. It makes so much sense now why the 3rd made naruto’s life a living hell. Also “mr karaoke” kakashi makes sense because kakashi is basically a ninja version of David Bowie.
