Another thought : after I watched it again, I now think I know what the movie is about : childhood. No matter what happens, it's just about living your life and having fun. In that way, those kids are examples.

Me too!! I love how each person put a part of themselves into the scarf. When you see the last scene the little girl doesn't have her hat anymore, which probably means she gave it for the scarf!

I wish I was as brave as Kakomando. This story is sooo inspiring and really hits many aspects of deep friendship that often doesn't get displayed on screen. This type of freedom and exploration, I haven't seen since the 80s in films like the Goonies. Really incredible work here.

The visual storytelling is incredible, i could tell something would happen with the father with the way he was so wary to wake him up, and the thing he stole as they were lighting it up and plugging it in, in the back of my mind i thought that could be a fire hazard, and then there was. So great job dropping subtle hints about the story and characters without needing to say much out loud

there is so much to unpack here, but the fire scenes are especially interesting. 1. the 'waking up' to reality - childhood/the games are over. The adult, being flawed, beats up a child. a. this is not the first time kakomando is beat up. this is either his family or someone he knows which is worse. b. while the adult is beating him up, he repeats that 'this' (whatever it is) is the kid's fault. Even though the adult de-attaching the battery caused an even bigger issue. 2. the fire a. one of the most interesting parts is the adult staring up at the fire. he finally looks up and realise (to *some* extend what he caused) YET he does not apologize, he just takes it as 'life' and moves on while dazed, not realising his blame. He ditches the kid in the flames which more painful if we consider him to be the one in charge of kakomando. b. the additional seconds that the camera zooms into the burning house is especially painful, they let the audience think about the sudden shift between happy childhood moments and adult life. this is also echoed by how the leader's attitude completely changes towards his friends. it would be impossible to say that the moment 'turned sour', because it did not. the shift was sudden, the safe electric light cut out almost instantly and turned into a dangerous fire. the playful safe house burnt to the ground. this is all emphasised by the couple of seconds that the camera shows the house burning.

The rise after the fire is also just as notable! Even though the main character had stressed out inside the fire, the kids must've understood that it was a momentary lapse. They could have decided to leave him completely alone, but instead made a new scarf and waited for him expectantly to be ready on his own. I think, nowadays, that's a pretty mature way for those kids to emotionally handle what happened in that fire
