Yeah, it's "completely debunked" by pseudo-scientists and people who claim expertise in a field completely tangential to the environment. How people can dismiss the work of thousands of real scientists who spend upwards of decades studying and learning about this kind of stuff still boggles my mind. It's as if you think one discussion over a bottle of beer with your mates somehow is equivalent to a life's worth of education in environmental science.

Why do you believe that is true? I've studied market failures for a great deal of my life, the evidence i have seen suggests that the reason markets fail (not succeed) is because of people like her, it is because people fail to internalise the externalities of their consumption.
@Finn9598 жыл бұрын

@PurpleH4z38 жыл бұрын
Oh, come on!
@dripdripdrippird8 жыл бұрын
***** i may not have spoken clearly. one reason why markets fail is because consumption and production have what we refer to as "externalities". its worth a google if you arent familiar with the concept. some externalities are positive and some of them negative. the vast majority of people are ignorant to at least some of the externalities of their consumption (including you and me, probably) and so they fail to incorporate them in to their purchasing behaviour. so to answer your question: no, she needs to be better educated as to the consequences of her actions, because only then can capitalism really function. in order for people acting freely on an open market to function effectively you need a well educated healthy society of people with a social conscience, so that they will internalise the externalities of their consumption (for example not eating beef because they are educated about the ecological impacts of cattle farming, or whatever)

The man is correct. We used Crude Oil to make 50 cent toys that wind up in the trash weeks later. What a waste of oil. Petroleum to Plastics The technological road from oil field to finished plastic product has numerous fascinating side trips. Here’s the route taken in the petroleum-to-plastics process: 1. Petroleum is drilled and transported to a refinery. 2. Crude oil and natural gas are refined into ethane, propane, hundreds of other petrochemical products and, of course, fuel for your car. 3. Ethane and propane are "cracked" into ethylene and propylene, using high-temperature furnaces. 4. Catalyst is combined with ethylene or propylene in a reactor, resulting in "fluff," a powdered material (polymer) resembling laundry detergent. 5. Fluff is combined with additives in a continuous blender. 6. Polymer is fed to an extruder where it is melted. 7. Melted plastic is cooled then fed to a pelletizer that cuts the product into small pellets. 8. Pellets are shipped to customers. 9. Customers manufacture plastic products by using processes such as extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, etc.

Excuse me? Nearly every MSM channel had a near daily update of some Hillary story, whether it was emails, Benghazi, or her Foundation. They pounded those stories to death, and cycled to the next when they ran out of things to say about one. And look what happened. Absolutely fucking nothing. Trump says "she's been through enough, actually her Foundation has done some good things, I'm just gonna drop it," funny huh? Almost like there was no actual massive mountain of corruption and Trump just used those angles to ruse more people into voting against Hillary. Disclaimer: I don't like Hillary in the least.

3:00 -- "I believe over consumption in the rich countries of the world is one of the root causes of terrorism." Except, terrorism is known to be done by people who are disproportionately wealthy and educated. Especially by global standards. Also, no one has become wealthy by consuming, people become wealthy by producing. 3:30 -- "How do you think that makes them feel?" This is what I don't get about a lot of the left. How do you assume the west should feel guilty for its wealth, or that other people 'look at you with envy', without being "tribalistic" or "ethnocentric" or "culturally supremacist". If we aren't doing things any better than anyone else, why would this question occur to him? After that hes pretty solid though. I think 'Captain Fantastic' makes his case a bit better than his impromptu exhortation. People should look at how they are living their lives, they should check their own frivolousness; and most importantly stop telling other people what to do and just lead by example.
