As a small child my mother and I would take the bus and walk to the historic California Hotel in San Bernardino CA to see him perform.

oh my gosh I am 51 and in all my years I have never heard of Korla Pandit until now. I'm fascinated by his story and how absolute gorgeous he was. I plan to continue to research more info about him.

My mother had him on everyday ... channel 5 KTLA. I recall him in the 50s and always watched as well. Hypnotic and very talented. Never forgot that show!

Good stuff - thanks for this interview. Interesting to have an Indian interviewer be discussing Korla. I'm glad that she wasn't digging into him for his Indian impersonation. I also really liked how she said "avatar" at 16:34. 😁

I use to watch Korla. Then when he disappeared I watched Liberace. I was mesmerized by them both. No one I knew liked either one. I didn't understand how they couldn't love watching them. I thought they were awesome. I didn't know that Korla wasn't Indian until watching this. I am surprised.

It's weird how he doesn't mention it. BUT he says it's "his story." Especially with a real Indian interviewer.

John Roland Redd was light skinned African American with straight hair. It shouldn't be a surprise that he passed as Indian. It would seem that Korla managed to convince the majority of people that he was Indian, so why should John Turner be any different?

Interesting that they only focus on his made up persona. The interviewer seems to be savvy enough to know better, right?

That's the point of this particular interview I think. Otherwise the title of this video might be "John Turner on John Roland Redd"...perhaps?
