I am so sad for Sam it's heartbreaking for him to lose his entire collection in this way and all that work to vanish especially as he is such a responsible keeper and such great educator and amazing resource for other reptile keepers. Not to forget that this is the way he responsibly earns a living that supports him his family and employees.

I don’t understand why his iguanas aren’t being grandfathered in. So long as he isn’t producing anymore, he should be able to keep what he already has and work at rehoming all the young and keep the special ones for pets for himself. As a well-respected reptile professional, Florida Game and Wildlife should be able to give him a permit to keep these animals and it is sickening to see them treating him and his animals this way. I really hope he can place all his animals in time.

Lovely beast! I remember the tortoise my mom adopted, “Fluffy” lived in the backyard at her house in Bakersfield California. Every morning Fluffy would scratch at back door demanding breakfast! Fluffy was a unable to live in the wild and my mom decided to give it a safe home. It was so cool to see that “rock” lumbering over to greet me whenever I came to visit!

With some handling, routine and some respect, iguanas can be such wonderful pets for the right person. I have a wonderful adult male red iguana, and he is a calm guy who free roams my home pretty much like a house cat, with a humid tent for night. He like to hang out with me at the end of the night before bed. Just expect a lot of poop. It’s kind of like living with a goose.

Good luck to Sam. Hopefully he can find homes for the iguanas. Problem with out of state sales is most pet stores out of state carry iguanas at a very low price..way less than the cost of shipping a iguana from Florida alone. Factoring in the cost of building a suitable enclosure…and if Sam wants money for them on top of it…will deter many potential people from rescuing Sams animals. I’ve had iguanas and would be willing to pay for shipping to rescue one of Sams…which would be more than buying one from a local pet store…but with enclosure costs and a fee on top of that…all I can do hope Sam finds buyers

That’s awesome you got one from Sam I follow his channel as well. He’s a great guy and does great work with tortoises and iguanas but it’s sad he can’t breed iguanas anymore. It’s such nonsense that laws can ruin peoples passion and all the hard work and years of dedication with a law that isn’t going to help anything anyway it’s nonsense. Iguanas are already established their and stopping people from breeding them and ruining their businesses isn’t going to stop the iguanas in the wild from breeding. It’s just sad. Everyone needs to join and support #USARK so they don’t take away all of our reptiles because some uneducated politicians think it’s for the best. I have 4 of these guys, all from Sam, once moved and settled I might get a few more. Lol. Who knows. I currently live in TN but come fall I will be moving to my property in Florida. I’m super excited to be able to keep my group outside full time. I work hard to make sure I provide them everything they need while inside but I’ve always wanted them outside full time. Anyone who is truly interested in an iguana, read this. I've maintained a healthy female green iguana indoors for the past 14 years. She's even moved across the country with me. I've EASILY spent 15,000-20,000 dollars on food and caging over the years. I clean dog-sized poop out of my 6 x 8 x 6 enclosure every third day. We're talking a small, 5 pound female iguana. Males can push 20 pounds. I got this animal when I was a teenager. I'm 30 now! I'll tell you one thing, She'll live with me for the rest of her life, but I won't be bring home another! 🤣

If worst comes to worst and you have animals left that are about to be euthanised, see if Snake discovery can help you out. They have a great facility that they do adoptions from and they very educated, reptile loving people and they have helped people with collections out in the past. They might even want to buy or adopt 1 or 2 themselves.
