Maan it took me a while to get this right.. couldn't figure out why my downward piston wouldn't drop until I realised I had to set max distance to one meter then tell sensor to increase it with every rotation.. apart from that I know this is an old vid but thank u very much for it.. gotten off to a good start thanks to this series.. totally addicted to SE now lol

the oldschool solution to reduce tool shake was to add a gyroscope onto the drills. Also, not sure about xbox but on the PC version there is an option to turn off tool shake in the advanced settings of the world, which helps to reduce that Klang-tastic wobble.

Kanahashi is wrong about "share inertia" tensor; It's not about joint stiffness. The sharing option has the forces being applied affect the entire structure's mass rather than just the subgrid and then propagating through the arm. You can get around some of this with making balanced rotation shaft. blog.marekrosa.org/2017/11/physics.html

I just made something like this last night. Except I did 5 drills wide with one connector in between and 10 pistons high. I reduce shake by building basic blocks around the pistons as it extends. It rotates once every 2 minutes and It descends at .5 meters per minute and I can only run it for 1min30sec before it fills up my large storage container with stone so its slow enough for me to build around the shaft as it descends. The thing has given me more stone in 10 minutes of run time than Ive gotten all game so far. Its nuts. And it still has another 85 meter of earth to chew through.

Been using these sort of set ups since I started playing on PC, great to see things like this helping new players. The biggest drill I've set up on pc uses 8 extended pistons on the up arm and 8 on the down arm with 8 drill heads, clang was happyish with it.

I cant believe I never thought to use a sensor, i always calculated how slow the pistons need to move in order to go down by one block every 4 minutes or so and made the rotor make a full turn every 4 minutes. The sensor is so much easier

I've made much larger drill heads in a plus pattern on Xbox and use gyros on the end of each drill head line as well as gyros on the rotor (switched to override). Not feasible at an early stage in the game/where you're at in the video, but soon after for sure.

Clang is my friend, pushed xbox limits running 19 drills attached to a rotor, attached to 20 pistons so half a rotation equalled a full turn (9 on either side of center). All I can say is it danced while drilling.

I actually found a way how to use the wiggle to my advantage while using that auto mining system, what I did was use a small rotor part and small drills, about 5 (one in middle and two on each side) the wiggle of the piston, rotor and drill actually allowed me to boar a wider hole

Change the conveyors into a piston so you can extent it, and start the rig on an advanced rotor (so you can change the direction of the entire rig).

Very good drill Rig setup every xbox and PC player should know. The lack of Share Inertia tensor on Xbox is such a shame and will limit builds and hopefully they are working on adding it. I also hope we get this on PS4 one of these days.

I'd like to see the previous tutorial telling how to start a drill rig.I have started a drill rig and I have so far connected reinforced conveyor tubes out to a reinforced curved conveyor tube. now what do I do next? add more reinforced conveyor tubes going up or add a piston going up?

Thank you for the great series! I have a question. How to you set the amount of decrease when setting up piston in the Sensor? I can only choose 'to do' action regarding that sensor, like decrease or increase max/min distance, but how/where to specify for how much (like it shows 2m in your case)? I'm on PC, though I don't think it matters in this case. I know how to manually control pistons directly. The question is about setting it from the sensor. Thank you!

Just for anyone else on XBOX you can turn on experimental gameplay thats what allows you to activate share inertia tensor

Unless I am mistaken you could set the sensor to reduce piston 1 when it comes into range and increase piston 2 when it swings out of range. I think that would make a .2 meter lowering of the rig which the drills should handle.

No, it is 1 meter, as each step is 0,5 meter if done this way.

Trying to have the Sensor decrease the Minimum Distance by 2m every rotation like yours does in the video, but when I select Decrease Minimum Distance from the Setup Actions page, I can’t choose by how much the Minimum Distance decreases. It just decreases it 0.0m. How did you get it decrease by 2m?

The option for share inertia tensor is on Xbox you just have to go into game options from the main menu and select experimental mode before your start up a game.

i had a question about sensors. you have one sensor that goes down 2 meters on one piston. if you have 2 pistons one that was pointing up and the other pointing down can you have 2 sensors each going down one meter on each piston. and if you have 4 each going down .5 meters and so on?

Was trying to get this to work for nearly 2 hours before going to bed. I’m on computer playing with a controller; I have the same setup and copied your settings for the pistons and the sensor, but nothing happens. My drills just spin around in a circle never dropping any further into the ground. Am I missing something?

Which is better piston than rotor or rotor than piston? Also i experimented on the xbox you can create 10 head drills but it can only be 3 on each side

Is there a way to have the pistons only move a set bit per rotation. To prevent the drills from being slammed into the ground. I would like to rotor to do two rotations then have one the piston move 2.5 extend until its full extended. Then the next one in sequence

To make any ship, you need to find cobalt, and increase powerproduction heavily, as they eat power like no tomorrow. Rovers need driveable terrain, and this hill does not look like one, too step in places.

You can get up to 10 drills on one piston in xblocks. I haven't gone higher... yet. *13*

My question is about the appearance of the equipment. When I build anything, it looks rusty and old, where as in this video it looks shiney and new. Whats up with that? Is there an option or a setting somewhere I've missed?

I did exactly this. However, the materials gathered aren't being automatically added to my refinery. I even have the share inventory option on. I don't know what to do.

I'd be curious what your stability issues are like. Because on my X1 X literally the moment I log into the game. I'm already getting performance issues pop up in the right hand of the screen. Then you'll usually get a 5 Second screen freeze before it resumes. Then it repeats the cycle in about 1 to 2 minute cycles. You don't really even have to have anything built. New and old games alike it pretty much does the same thing. Space Engineers I've been looking forward to for a long time coming out on console. But unfortunately it's just about unplayable at the moment. Hopefully the May update will help fix some of these stability issues here. :/

I built this and my drill is only the blocks distance away like yours. My front extent is at 7.5, bottom is like 20-25, and my sensor is set to detect subgrids. I have had zero luck getting it to work. Everything in the video I did except that i have 2 drills not 3, but they’re just as far from the sensor as your 3rd drill. Very sad because i know it should work and some how i messed it up.

My assembler and storage aren't pulling from tbe drills. Also it won't feed from one to the other. I have tons of power also so that's not the problem. Pretty annoying

hi gang #;}. about the shake..... there is a setting ( button to allow tools shake or not ) to remove it in the world settings. i use a 3 drill setup with. no shake at 5 it still has some but still much better.

Do you need to have the conveyor tubes for the reaching portion of the drill or can you use pistons? I have full drills but the material is not moving into my refinery. I used conveyor junctions and everything.

@@joemccloskey5398 The drills will pull the material. They are all kinda like conveyor belts on the inside. You just need to make sure you are using the right size. If you make the base of your drill a storage box and then feed that storage box to a refiner, you should be good.

Yes, I like to put 1-2 piston up, fully extended, then do 2-4 pistons down depending on room and add drill. Lower the base pistons first, then extend the others. Just make sure that you name or number each piston as you build them so you know which one is which. Nothing like having 6 unnamed pistons, or more, and now you have to figure out which is which

Hey built this but the stone I collect is just staying in the drills not transfering to my storage I checked and made sure my drills are using conveyor system but still nothing am i missing something

I was having the same issue until I checked a couple of things: First, are you using an 'advanced rotor'? The regular one doesnt convey anything through it, only the advanced one works. Secondly, and this might seem silly but, have you checked if your storage is full? This thing pulls up stone like a mother. When I checked my cargo container it didnt look very full until I spotted the 'litre' capacity which was to the top. I built extra storage and it fixed the issue.

Also watch for Gravel. It is mostly useless and just takes up space in your refiner until you have no room for ores. A sorter is a good way to pull it out of the way

Yes. I made this mistake by using regular Rotor. Just make sure you use Advanced Rotor

Not sure what all Xbox has, but on PC you can use a Sorter block on conveyor to pull rock and ore from everywhere in system into the refiner

When I do this my piston just goes maximally. Not just a little bit each rotation.

Change the maximum distance slider on your piston to just 1m. Then tell the sensor to increase the maximum distance on that piston.

If you build a hydrogen engine, you can turn it into power, 2 O2/H2 gens are needed to feed one engine. It will eat up the ice in notime, giving you 4 MW extra power after the gens are subtracted.

If you don't want the ice you can add a collector and an ejector on the end of the collector. Whitelist ice on the sorter and turn on the ejector. It will eject the ice out.
