Perfect topic. Here are the things I wish I knew: 1. It will take an hour to do my hair and I need to detangle it in a calm, relaxed, unrushed state. 2. I had to schedule that time first thing in the morning before my family wakes up. 3. I have to shampoo and condition at minimum twice a week. 4. Everyone has their own personal style and mine are updos and that is okay to be unique. 5. Natural hair is professional. There was no reason to fear going natural for a month and a half before cutting off my relaxed ends. 6. All I need is shampoo, conditioner, oil, leave-in (with a wide tooth comb and brush to detangle and hair ties and hair pins to style), flaxseed gel, water and a scarf. 7. Exercise, diet and state of mind matter. 8. Ingredients matter 9. Technique is more important than product 10. Transitioning was more for my mind than it was my hair and having self-loved natural hair is the ultimate confidence builder 11. Purchasing power and viewing power (watching KZbinrs with hair similar to mine) matters 12. Natural hair has led to a more natural home and easier life 13. Surround myself with artwork of women with natural hair at home :)

I wish that I knew that you can’t airlift another natural’s routine from their head onto yours and expect the same results. Everyone’s hair is so uniquely different that it’s best to develop your own routine to fit your hair’s needs instead of copying someone else’s. I wish I knew to trust my instincts more, even as a newer natural. You can hear advice and in your gut say “That doesn’t sound right,” yet you follow it anyway because the person giving the advice has beautiful hair. Your hair is unique and some naturals have beautiful hair in spite of some of the crazy stuff they be doing to it. Trust your gut!

I wish I knew that my hair needs to stay in a stretched state as well. The last time I left my hair in a wash and go for a week, single strand knots MURDERED me! I had to cut off about 2 inches. I'm 3 years natural now and I'd never make that mistake again!

I was natural before it was a trend because these hair salonists didn't respect me or my hair and would talk badly about me in another language. I am happy that I became natural I was only a quiet and shy girl who'd let these hair salonists rip my hair out (to eventually straighten it)and I did not even stand up for myself or my hair. NEVER AGAIN! P.S Not every hair salonists is like this but I am definitely more cautious now with who handles my hair!

Girrl I have been fully natural for 4 years now and that is one of the biggest lesssons I learned being natural. My scalp needs to be washed weekly. Anytime I have tried to stretch it longer than that my scalp becomes sensitive, itchy, sore and I’m sure it’s because I produce a lot of sebum. I definitely also need shampoo.

Stretch gang for sure! I wish I had known that wash day was going to take more time than getting a relaxer. I legit thought going natural would save me time doing my hair. Oh, to be young and dumb. I just wish I’d known that it’s ok to do what works for my head of hair. I have really thick hair and wouldn’t use a comb or detangling tool when I first went natural because all the KZbinrs said not to, but finger detangling was so overwhelming because my hair is so thick so I didn’t bother. I lost so much hair when I got my first silk press. Lesson learned. We’re combing over here.

I feel like when I first went natural, I wish I knew the importance of deep conditioning, which was easy to get away with not doing when I had a TWA. I learned from you to keep my hair in braids or twist for a couple of days and then take them down. Right know, I'm wishing I knew that the styles are going to look different when your hair grows, which means the amount of effort has to change. About a year ago my hair would basically look the same if I did a twist-out or braid-out. Now I can see a major difference between how day 1 hair on a twist-out vs on a braid-out will turn out.

Everything you said.... FACTS, no cap, will even type it in Latin for the people in the back, VERITAS!! I wish I appreciated the beauty of my hair at every stage; that I listened to it and my scalp, not force another person’s regimen on it; and I wish knew that complicating a process and adding 10 billion steps to a wash day would not make it grow faster than its normal growth rate. Doing what my hair likes; avoiding what it doesn’t like, and keeping it simple is all I ever needed to do.

"That 3 prong comb.... my hair laughed" 😂😂😂 Girla!! I wasn't even gonna waste my time with that or anything like it... I saw breakage standing at the doe!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I realized on this journey of my hair growth (I've been natural since 2012 but cut my hair many times but the final time was 2017), I can embrace frizz and volume along with the definition. I see this time around, learning to stretch to get the volume is hella gorgeous on me too!! It got me to relax this go around when it comes to styling. Great video sis!!☺❤

Game changers for me 1. Denman brush 2. Learning the advantages of a GOOD leave in for my hair 3. detangling my hair when soaking wet is a major key 🔑, I used to lolligag and be pussyfooting around and taking FOUR hours to detangle. With the addition of these 3 major keys 🔑- detangling takes 15 mins. And therefore wash day isn’t an all day process. Smh

What I learnt in my natural hair journey was not to be a product junkie. I wanted to try everything on the market to find the holy grail 😂. My scalp did not appreciate this. I had sensitive scalp that I ignored. The hair looked good but scalp was itchy from heavy or fragrant products. I also love shampoo. I learnt how to wash my hair without getting it tangled. Section and later keeping my hair in downward direction. I am low porosity but my scalp can’t handle too much. Hair oil is also good. I grew my hair it’s longest and it was nice🥰. I prefer my current TWA now, really fast.

I am a shampoo girl. Found out my hair likes to be washed twice a week. The biggest thing I learned was how the dew point affected this high porosity hair, especially with humectants. This was a major game changer. Not everyone has thick hair. Mine is so fine and low density. It’s a waste of time trying to mimic styles.

@mswtaz94 can you speak on having fine and low density hair more??😩😩 if I’m being honest i come to this channel coz I love lexi’s personality and obviously for some of the advice, like this video, applied to all naturals but we don’t have similar porosity or density and my hair is fine. Which fine haired, low density, yters do you watch? What’s your routine like?

@mswtaz94
@mswtaz94 4 жыл бұрын
Leilani Dru Sadly, the one person I watched doesn’t make videos anymore and I can’t even remember her name. I follow Jheri Johnson. She’s 4c, medium density and high porosity. Mine isn’t all 4c but it helps me with those sections that are. My routine is messed up because I have alopecia and its bad right now. I used a lot of oils but I think the alopecia is worse when I do. I’m trying to figure out how to function without them. Maybe it’s using all natural products. I have bad allergies. I shampoo twice a week and try to DC both washes. I retain moisture that way. I do an ACV rinse once a week and stay away from plain aloe Vera juice because it dries and tangles my hair. I don’t spritz with water because it makes my high porosity sections rough and dry. If I have to moisturize, I use a leave-in, a moisturizer, or a moisture spray. I stretch it after I shampoo by twisting and setting it on the largest perm rods it can take. That makes it almost like it’s been blow dried. I only style on dry hair. I don’t do twist outs because the parts show and if I lift the roots too much, I lose definition. Mostly I do twist and curls for the fullness.

Lol. When you said, "Tell me, even if it was last month," I literally am transitioning for the second time as of last month. What I wish I knew before was how to moisturize my hair. I only learned about the LOC method last month. I also wish I knew not to detangle my hair like some of these already-natural KZbinrs. I literally broke off hair smoothing with a brush, which wasn't needed considering I'm newly transitioning again.

I mostly use chocolate kinks and curls clay washes and soultanicals butta shampoos. I’ll cowash occasionally and clarify monthly. I style in wash in go’s mostly but because of single strand knots I’m probably gonna start doing more twist outs, loose and mini twists soon. Switching to only finger detangling 95% of the time has helped tremendously 🙌🏾. I picked up the kazmaleje brush after watching your review and it’s definitely a game changer when I actually use tools 💃🏾

😍Luv this video! I also LUV & APPRECIATE how positive and encouraging you are in this vid and across the board even when discussing tough topics. Thx Sis. Finally, what I wish I knew at the beginning of my journey was how to properly detangle my hair & how much my hair luvs to be prepooed before cleansing! 😍

Great video girl. I love shampooing and a cleaning co- wash works for me. I wish I knew that regular conditioner's was now good for a cowashing.

I feel you on the Co washing. I am transitioning and I started Co washing in between shampoo washes and I had itchy scalp and bumps. So... I thought it has to be this conditioner washing, I stopped and my happier for it.

Twist and set it on the largest perm rods it can go around a couple of times after shampooing. For me it works like I blow dried.

I definitely keep my hair stretched. I need to stop using the tension method though, and start figuring out a heatless way.

Try single, chunky braids! When you take them down they should be pretty stretched

Omg you were like in my brain. I just big chopped in July my hair was real damage and I didnt know how my real texture looked. I've bought so many products before I did research smh 🤦🏾‍♀️ I'm still learning about my hair I know my hair porosity but the type I have no understanding. Do you go by when your hair is dried or when it is wet or with products?

my hair and scalp CANNOT get down with cowashing either. I need a shampoo, not a cowash or cleansing milk. And I rarely use oils too, and thats suppose to help with cowashing but it still doesn't work for me. ˆtried a cleansing milk and cowash but I felt like I had to wash my hair again two days later
