Kansai is usually parodied in anime, so several characters have used it. Oosaka from Azumanga Daioh and Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura are a couple of examples. Kansai is associated with humor too due to the use of Manzai comedy. These guys are exaggerating the differences in delivery too ;)

This is somewhat true! Osaka people are more emotional and expressive than Tokyo people. Partly because Tatemae and Honne culture is very less than other part of Japan, so people tend to cuss each other and speak eveil of each others in their conversation. This is sometimes irritating and frustrating when we communicate with Osaka people. "Why are you being so rude and try to say all of bad things about me?". Osaka people like to cuss each other in their conversation and they think that is the evidence of true freindship, which is very unthinkable in Tokyo. If you talk like people in Osaka all the time in Tokyo, maybe friends in Tokyo will go away because they think you're too twisted and negative. Tokyo people avoid confrontation and fights.
@Picchan-drops6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I totally agree with you
@KaraVirus5 жыл бұрын
Huh... Interesting... seems like the Osakans are more similar to us foreigners. If it offers any comfort, swearing isn't meant to offend to anyone. We just fucking do it cause like... uhhhhhhhh- well being too formal is seen as fake. We enjoy being open and friendly. Maybe it's the same for the Osakans? I'm no expert, but I also hear there's also somewhat of a rivalry between Osaka and Tokyo? If there is... then I have a message for all the Osakans and uh...... "Tokyonians"??? who hate eachother: YA'LL ARE FUCKING STUPID. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH CITY IS "BETTER" GET YOUR HEADS OFF YOUR ASSES. Instead of fighting, why don't you guys learn to admire what the other has to offer? And if you disagree on anything, that's no reason to hate eachother. Every person has a different way of thinking, doesn't make them bad people. To all the less egotistical folk: I love you ❤ EDIT: Btw, I stand at the center of an escalator.
@yup.yikes.78434 жыл бұрын
that sounds like people here in the philippines lmao with my closest friends we even curse at one another as a greeting and as a way of saying "that's/you're funny". idk why man but it's just the culture i guess.
@munetoshiyamasaki75364 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I should offend to the second comment. Because I'm from Osaka and I lived all my life here. Maybe, I should take it as a compliament and support to my own people. Some people hate their own kind. And cursing each other can be seen more in lower class of people in any countries. Some sort of manners are needed among noble or highly social class people. Even in Osaka,it is still rude to curse people no matter how close their friendship is in the rich areas. I am not that kind of richperson, but I tend to treat people politely even I have been knowing them for years.

Thing thing about "American" english is that we also can't all agree on a singular dialect. West and east coasts generally sound radically different. Hell, the east can't even agree with itself. in school, we always learn standard, but when I lived in Osaka, everyone would look at me like, "why are you so stuffy/uptight?" my friends were like, "here, let us help you. this is how you can fit in with the way you talk." it was much easier to pick up because I already knew standard. the faces of older, local folk when they heard me use Kansai-ben was pretty funny, though!
