Osaka is known as the comedy capital of Japan, and the people there are seen as being more expressive than others. My Japanese teacher is actually from Osaka and she's always complaining about how the people from northern Japan are aloof and have no sense of humor.

When you finally realise.... Inuyashiki is really an anime where two delusional people go around Osaka shouting "BANG!" at everyone, thinking they have super powers, can fly and cure cancer... and everybody in Osaka just go along with it for 11 whole episodes because they're nice people. What a great story.

I live in Tokyo. They see themselves as polite and humble, and further west as a bit more rude and aggressive (Osaka being an extreme example). The west sees themselves as more lively and fun, and Tokyo as boring and cold. They're both right about all those points to be honest.

It goes both ways if you ask someone from Tokyo about Osaka lol. It’s true though. Osaka is more loud, crazy, friendly while Tokyo is more proper, serious, and cold. It just depends on which lifestyle you prefer more.

Velvet3den So, I guess Japanese could dislike each other too depends on dialect and their region too:( What do you mean by 'looking out for chikan'? I am sorry English is not my native, so I am confused the term "looking out for" ._. Is that mean like Osaka people can grope you or sexually harassed foreigners on the train?._.
@Velvet3den

Elwen 1294 yes, well it happens in Tokyo too but those people meant since Osaka people are more straight forward the risk would be higher to meet a pervert xD not sure if it's true or just plain prejudices :p

I've been to Osaka a couple of times, and the people there are more outgoing than in any other part of Japan that I've visited, but still relatively reserved compared to the USA where I'm from. But, I've been at street concerts where, when the singer noticed a foreigner standing around watching, he started talking to me. He asked me if I knew who Shohei Ohtani was, and stuff like that.

Osaka definitely have one of the friendliest people around. I went last year for one day, took the train from Tokyo. When I got to Osaka I was looking for Dontoburi, this young lady was with her mom and they asked if I needed helped and said they will walk me there. Even with their limited English they still tried to talk to me and get to know me. I was shocked because I’m not used to people being so nice. Thanks young lady with your mom.

ビデオの最後の方の英訳で"definitely try 'bang' on a stranger."

I'm from Nagoya. I always wanted to move to Osaka so badly! I've met way more nicer people from Osaka than Tokyo back in the day. If you know "culture" Tokyo doesn't have to represent Japan as a whole. People always ask me about Tokyo aa of the mass media and such. I'm living in U.S now but if I ever got a chance to move back, I would go for Osaka for sure.

Do more stuff on Osaka! This city seems fun, the people have this warm and welcoming vibe and they have a nice sense of humor. I would say, predominantly, if you did say "BANG!" to people here in Sweden, most people would probably either shake their heads and ask you to get a life or they would pretend they didn't hear/see you and carry on walking. :-)

Must be a small city versus big city thing. While I can't speak for Osaka versus Tokyo, I definitely noticed the difference between people in Busan versus Seoul, when I was in Korea. I'd say life in Busan was slower paced, where people may have time to joke around, and the people there were definitely warmer and friendlier. The people in Busan also seemed less status conscious and more comfortable in their own shoes. Seems the same is true of Osaka.
