150~160ml Water (5.1~5.4 fl oz) (when cooked with rice cooker)
1~2 tbsp Strawberry Jam

Authentic Kansai-style sakura mochi uses domyojiko, a type of coarsely ground sticky rice but you can also substitute regular sticky rice instead. If the sakura leaves are soft, you can enjoy them along with the mochi. The slight saltiness will bring out the sweetness and the aroma will make you want more! The sakura mochi can be stored in the freezer. When you thaw, let it sit at room temperature until soft. (*^^*) 関西風桜餅は一般的には道明寺粉(餅米を一旦蒸して乾燥の後、粗く砕いたもの)で作ることが多いですが、手に入りやすいもち米でも作れます。桜の葉が柔らかい場合は一緒にいただくとその塩気で甘さが引き立ちまた香りも良いです!桜餅は冷凍保存ができます。食べるときは自然解凍で召し上がってください。(≧∇≦)/

Tardisntimbits Just make sure you strain the seeds out and sure, Japanese just tend to prefer strawberries because they are more traditional.

The romanization of 今日 (today) is kyou きょう. kiyou is different きよう.

My favorite mochi is with chocolate, peanuts or sesame. I've been to Japan and prefer the really chewy, moist mochi made from sweet rice flour. But this looks so pretty!

I just had some in a japanese restaurant and they were so tasty!! it was all soft and chewy and the leaf was very soft. i'm definetly going to make some myself :)

美味しそうですね。やはり粒が残っているぐらいが見た目に美しいし、美味しいと思われます。 ところで、友だちと旅行に行って国民宿舎に泊まった時に、夕飯のデザートに桜餅が出ました。 ところが友だちは、桜の葉を取って食べていたので驚きましたよ。 柏餅じゃないのに・・・。 その人は、鮒の甘露煮も頭と尻尾と骨を取って食べていたので、「どれほど物を知らないんだろう」と思っちゃいました。

Thank-you for sharing this recipe! I used to eat sakura mochi when I was little, but I never knew the leaves were pickled in shio until I watched this video :) It looks delicious! Does your sakura mochi have a strawberry flavor, or does it mostly disappear after it's mixed in?

It doesn't have a strawberry flavor. :) The jam only gives the mochi a slight sweetness and the pink color. *****
