The WW1 Museum is one of the best I've ever been in. It would take a full day just to look at every item in there. The entrance alone is quite sobering as it is a plexiglass walkover of the recreated Western Front crater scape of 'no man's land' full of poppies. There are 9,000 poppies, each representing 1,000 deaths for the 9 million lives lost during WW1. And that's just the entrance-well worth a visit!

As the narrator walks, I see downtown KCMO as it was when I was growing up in the 60s thru 70s. At the corner of 12th and Main where the POWER AND LIGHT building sits was THE JONES STORE. Adjacent to it was the KRESGE’S store, where I had my first slice of pizza and my first submarine sandwich. The white steps you see when he’s pointing towards the Missouri river lead up to the CITY CENTER SQUARE building at 1100 Main St, which opened in June 1977. I went in to look around when there were just a few businesses inside. On the corner adjacent to it was MACY’S. So many fond memories…..🌹

Hi, Thank you for the Video. I live in Kansas City metro area. This is a great city to live in. it has all amenities that you can imagine but in smaller scale. Great people. Fantastic museum " Adkins Museum of Art" great food, amusement park " World's of Fun", great gardens and most importantly no traffic. if you are sport fan, this is your city, Baseball " KC Royal", Football " KC Chief", Soccer "Sporting Kansas City" Also you should have visit Plaza shopping district. great architecture, great Universities close to Kansas City " University of Kansas", University of Missouri". City of Kansas City are investing greatly to bring people to live in downtown Kansas City and they are building new residential apartments and building a new Stadium for Women Soccer by the river. Before I forget City of Kansas City building a brand new Airport. they in the right track. The other reason I love Kansas City is whenever you want to visit anywhere in United States just fly anywhere in country within 2 +/- flight time. this is great. if you want to drive then, 4 hours to Saint Louis, 8 hours to Chicago and close to many other major cities. Also, read other people's comments that mentioned place such as WWI Museum, Union Stations and T-Mobile Center for big concerts and sport event. The Kansas City keep its residence entertained and busy.

The Midwest cities are so underrated. I hope they don't go the way of Nashville or Austin and get too gentrified. KC, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati are great American cities, but I fear if they get too much development they'll be unaffordable after a while.
@abidsalim6183 Жыл бұрын
And so is Denver, but it is not the midwest..
@mayavenuemisfit814 Жыл бұрын
It's already starting in Cincinnati. Have you been to Over-the-Rhine in the last decade or so? About 20 years ago, it was one of the poorest and most crime-ridden areas in the United States. Now it's one of the most expensive places in the entire state of Ohio to live. The same thing goes for the West End, which is right next to OTR. Since about 2007 or so, urban renewal projects have displaced a lot of historic buildings and longtime residents, and now that the soccer stadium was built there, gentrification in that neighborhood is spreading like butter on toast. And if I had to guess, Avondale is probably next if the seeds of gentrification haven't already been planted there as well. You can also include Columbus on your list. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and I believe the fastest-growing in the Midwest. And as such, the cost-of-living and home prices are growing along with it.

The comment that there's nothing else to do in Kansas City except attend sporting events is just wrong. Within sight of the T-Mobile Center that includes the College basketball Hall of Fame there's the Kauffman Center for the performing Arts; the building designed by the same architect as the famous Sydney Opera House in Australia. It is the home of the Kansas City Symphony, and the Kansas City Ballet, and hosts numerous performers from Cirque de Soleil to popular music performers. There is also the Muriel Kauffman Botanical garden in the vicinity of UMKC, and the Nelson Art Gallery which has a sculpture garden that includes one of the original castings of Rodin's "The Thinker" and inside features works of the great painters including one of Monet's "Water Lilies" Union Station that includes Science City, The Liberty Memorial and WW I Museum; Crown Center that boasts a "Legoland" (Adults not admitted if not in the company of a child.) and that's just adjacent to the Main Street corridor from Downtown to the Plaza district that has shops and boutiques that accommodate the most lavish tastes. And Kansas City', Missouri's bus, and streetcar service is all free. Yes. Like in the song from the Broadway Musical, "Oklahoma," "Everything's up to date in Kansas City."
